Im running an arabic/hindu based campaign, not the easiest thing in the rpg world given the terrible lack of avaliable content. At some point in the campaign Im planning on a full scale war and want to make use of the mass combat rules in Ultimate campaign. Wanting to stay true to the theme of the campaign I want to have a fair number of these be mounted combat with elephants playing a major role in the opposing faction (much like the fight with the haradrim in Lord of the Rings III, but with the mounts a bit closer to reality in scale). I know the books fairly well but Im not an encyclopedia and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find rules for mounted combat with huge creatures or mass combats rules for them.

Planning a Vedas campaign? Elephants usually have multiple riders, I think that's the only big change to mounted combat rules for them. Most of the riders of the elephant are going to be using bows and other missiles, so mounted archery feats are probably what they're going for. Also, the elephant is so large, frequently there's a howdah on his back, thus probably providing a fair bit of cover (and shade) to the combatants. Horses generally like being nowhere near elephants---stiff penalties to handle animal to get them to charge elephants. Also, elephants have a tendency to panic and run amok. Not sure where the rules for that are (I've seen them in wargames though). I'd start with the bestiary entry for elephants in PF. A lot of the rest you may have to crib from elsewhere.

Rules for elephants and howdahs are included in Ultimate Battle, a product I wrote for Legendary Games as a supplement to the kingdom-building and mass combat rules I wrote for Chapter 4 of Paizo's Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Campaign hardcover. Check it out!
