Kickstarter for POTION TOKENS - An RPG gaming accessory that helps with Potion inventory.

Gamer Life General Discussion

This posting is for my Kickstarter campaign for a new gaming accessory for any D20-based Fantasy RPG.

POTION TOKENS

What are Potion Tokens?

A Potion token is a unique coin given to a player by the DM when they find a potion in an adventure.

Potion Tokens are compatible with:

-- Pathfinder RPG
-- Dungeons & Dragons
-- Castles & Crusades

Potion Tokens have many functions:

* When a player uses (spends) a Potion Token, they can physically hand the Potion Token to the DM. No need to erase a potion from inventory!!

* Players will never have to flip through books to find the spell description of the potion their character is trying to use, because the small spell description on the back of the potion token tells the player exactly what to do to resolve that spell.

Our group has recently started using 1 1/4" plastic discs with our own printed labels to track daily uses of:

Channel Energy
Lay On Hands
Bardic Performance
other class abilities usable a fixed number of times per day
spell-like abilities usable a fixed number of times per day
minutes of fly used from a witch's hex
rounds of haste used from boots of speed

I've thought about expanding that into potions as you are doing, but when I saw your Kickstarter I thought "Great! I don't have to do it myself!"

Unfortunately at $6 for a single coin I personally feel they are far too expensive. But that's just me. Obviously, full color professionally produced metal tokens with information on both sides is a superior product compared to blank plastic tokens in a handful of monochromatic choices, with homemade labels.

I will watch your progress with interest. Good luck! If you do well, perhaps you can consider a second series of coins for Channel Energy, Bardic Performance and such.

Thanks Damon......I will definitely look into another line of tokens...
Ability Tokens?......Maybe for my next Kickstarter project.

We have an EARLY BIRD special on the Kickstarter for $1 less than the regular pledge.

Hello Gamers,

Just added some pledge levels for PLASTIC Potion Tokens.

Take a look!!!

Click the link to go to the Kickstarter campaign: POTION TOKENS.

I started a Facebook page for Potion Tokens here:

Are the plastic tokens painted in the same way as the metal ones? And what size is "slightly smaller?"

Sounds groovy! Count me in!

Hey Damon,

The plastic tokens are not painted but instead the image is printed and then laminated and the laminated image is glued to a poker chip blank.

It feels just as heavy as an official poker chip you'd get in vegas.

I'd like to also add that the prices of all the METAL Potion Tokens pledge levels have been cut in half. I found a more affordable (yet same quality) manufacturer of the METAL Potion Tokens. The plastic Potion Tokens price has stayed the same but I found a manufacturer whose quality is much better.

So all said and done, everything in the Potion Tokens Kickstarter campaign got a boost in either quality or affordability.

A question about this product line:

Will you be producing an "unidentified potion" token? Most OGL d20 games (including both of the Big Two) require that potions be identified before a PC knows what kinds of potions they've found. When the GM says "you guys find three potions," will he have "unidentified potion" tokens to hand to the PCs?

Just a thought!

Thats a great idea......I'll run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it.

I checked out the Kickstarter page, but I'm trying to wrap my head around this.

Please correct me if I am wrong:
-The metal potion token are essentially military challenge coins with the artwork shown in the Kickstarter.
-The plastic challenge coins are casino poker chips with the artwork shown

So for the metal coins, is the color enameled on?

Hey Aaron,

Yes, the enamel is injected into the recessed areas created by the raised surfaces of the coin. The enamel is then baked to harden.

UPDATE

I have received the digital proofs for the Plastic "Cure Light Wounds" potion Token.

They can viewed on the Potion Tokens Facebook page.

I have also commissioned the art for the [b]Potion of Invisibility[b/] and hope to get something back by sometime next week, but our artist, Mike Corley has surprised me over and over again with respect to quality, high detail, and faster than expected delivery. Not to mention he is an all-around good guy. :)

I'll make sure to post the art on the Kickstarter campaign as soon as I get it.

17 Days left on the Kickstarter.
