Eleven Lore Keeper and Arcane Failure chance.

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

So I recently began to play an oracle in a friends campaign. Ever since I saw the Elven Lore Keeper, I was like, "wow that seems really cool!"

But then I got to thinking.

Upon adding arcane spells onto my known spells: when casting them are they considered to still be arcane spells when being cast by a divine spell caster who happens to have the spell added to their list?

And if so, that qualifies them for Arcane Spell Failure if my Oracle, who would typically be wearing armor, casts them in armor.

So from my interpretation I feel I would still qualify for Arcane spell failure simply because I would still be casting an arcane spell.

But I may be missing something. So I'm asking you guys. :)

Adding a spell to your list does not change your spellcasting mechanic; all it does is expand the number of spells you have on your list. Everything else about how you prepare spells, how you cast spells, etc., remains exactly the same, regardless of which specific spells you add to your list.

Just as a Sorcerer who gains an otherwise divine spell as a bonus spell doesn't cast it as a divine spell and get to ignore ASF, an Oracle who gets an otherwise arcane spell as a bonus spell doesn't cast it as arcane and become subject to ASF.

The lore keeper allows you to add arcane spells. It specifically says outside of the increased level it is not different to the original spell.

Therefore it is still an arcane spell.

arcane spell failure isn't based off class or base spell casting types, it's simply, "whenever someone casts an arcane spell in armor."

I imagine this also applies to spell like abilities.

You're misinterpreting the rules. Even though they're taken from the list of an arcane class, they're added as Oracle bonus spells known and they are not cast as arcane spells anymore than any other bonus spell an Oracle, Cleric, Druid, or other divine caster learns regardless of what list it comes from. Conversely, as I stated earlier, if an arcane caster gains a bonus spell that's only found on divine lists, it is still treated as an arcane spell because it's learned through an arcane spellcasting class. In order to override this, a class/archetype would require a specific and explicit exception clause.

Clerics with the Fire Domain don't need to worry about Arcane Spell Failure when casting Burning Hands, so Lore Keeper Oracles ought not worry about it, either.

Sounds fair. Thanks for the input. :)
