Enlarge person doesn't normally work on outsiders like aasimar.
If an aasimar cleric takes the growth subdomain, will he be able to use his 1st level power at all?
Enlarge (Su): As a swift action you can enlarge yourself for 1 round, as if you were the target of the enlarge person spell. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
It only works on yourself but you are no legal target. So by RAW I'd say he's out of luck. But it would seem strange that a god might give his cleric a power he can't use.
The 1st level domain spell of enlarge person can be used on others, so it is not useless.
BTW I know that there is an alternate racial trait allowing an aasimar to count as human. But tieflings ifrits and others face the same problem without this workaround.

Quote:But it would seem strange that a god might give his cleric a power he can't use. There is precedent. Pharasma gives her followers the Death domain but they can't use any of the undead creating spells.
There is a special version of the death domain for followers of pharasma.
But the sun domain for evil clerics might be such a precedent.Umbranus |
Go Scion of Humanity so that you are affected by spells as a human.

I know. The aasimar was just an example and not the best one because of this workaround.

It doesn't give you a spell like ability, it gives you a supernatural ability.

Supernatural abilities do what they say. If it were intended that you could cast the spell, it would be a spell-like ability (sp). It's not. It doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity (like casting a spell would). It is simply saying to use the spell to get the effects of the growth (size bonuses to stats, reach, etc).
So yes, an Aasimar could use this ability.
What he couldn't do is cast Enlarge Person on himself. Without scion of humanity.
