Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

This came up in a game last night and I thought I understood the card... but some other folks at the table read it opposite me and now I am unsure as I can see their point. So here is the card text as written.

The Poison Pill - Add 2 to your checks to acquire allies.

So if I am in this scenario and I want to acquire an ally that has a "Check to Acquire : Wisdom 5" Does that mean I roll my Wisdom +2 vs DC 5 or does it mean that the "Check to Acquire : Wisdom 5" is increased by two to "Check to Acquire : Wisdom 5+2=7"

Does the Poison Pill make picking up allies easier or harder?

Yea we had the same question, but I think it is just a wording issue. How would that make it easier to get allies?

If you add 2 on your dice roll it is easier. If you add 2 to the number on the ally card it is harder.

No, I meant in a theoretical way. Why would the Poison Pill help you get an ally? I understand the confusion with the wording.

It is easier to acquire allies. If it was harder, the card would say add +2 to the difficulty instead of +2 to the check.

Page 11:
"Some cards increase or decrease the difficulty of a check; if, for example, a card says that the difficulty is increased by 2, add 2 to the number on the card you encountered; if it says that the difficulty is decreased by 2, subtract 2 from the number."

The way it is worded, it DOES make it easier to acquire allies. I think the idea behind it might be that you're trying to out Pillbug as a poison salesman, so you're telling townsfolk about his shady business, and that would involve some Diplomacy? Maybe? I'm not saying it makes perfect sense, but the way it's written, you get +2 to YOUR checks to acquire, making it easier to acquire allies.

LOL OK. I think it is easier because these poison traps are killing the townsfolks... maybe thier pets or something. So when you are trying to clean them up and solve where they are coming from they want to help you. At least that is the RP reason I thought it would make the checks easier.

I thought it was easier to pick up allies because you are in town. There are more allies to meet and thus easier to pick them up.

The potential allies in town really want folks to stop poisoning them.

So Mike, are you saying that it does help acquire allies?

I am.

Wruin is correct.
