PFS Scenarios as a Campaign

Hey guys,

I'm a brand new PFS GM currently running a Monday night game at work.

I really wanted to get an RPG group together at work, but new the people I had in mind had spotty schedules at best. I have a solid crew of about 3 folks that show up every week without fail, and about 4-5 floating players that show up with mixed reliability. Thus I thought, PFS scenarios would be ideal for my group. We are running this as officially reported PFS games as I'd like to eventually get multiple tables running if we drum up enough interest here.

I have managed to get through the 3 introduction scenarios before they were officially retired (once we complete this evening), so I am starting to plan ahead as to which modules I should pick up.

With my group, I'm planning on running a "slow" XP curve for the players that show every night, and fast for the spottier attendees. Already, I have a few players that are varying degrees of "behind". So my question is this. Is there an easy listing of which scenarios are really linked to that season's story line and which are not? I would like to run a cohesive campaign that eventually touches on each seasons plot (assuming we even play that long) but I also don't want to run out of scenarios at each tier for my players to play. Any suggestion on a list of "core" scenarios?

Thanks for your time.

There are many subplots you can run that chain scenarios together. There are people around here that have links to such things. Or search the forums yourself.

The reason I'm chiming in is that YOU (as a GM) can't determine which characters to play on normal XP vs slow. That is a player's choice. If a player want to burn up to 6th level, he'll have to make another new PC to play in the tier 1-5 games, sit that game out, or run a game.

This thread has a list of scenarios that are linked together in story arc fashion.

@Nebten

I know, but I can strongly encourage them to set to slow to keep our group together. I wouldn't threaten them with public beatings.....Well I might.

@TriOmegaZero

Thank you for that link! I had searched but was unable to locate what I was looking for.

I'd strongly recommend against recommending your players to go slow before you realise what that entails with some PFS experience.

The better way to go is to have them roll up second characters by the time they get to level 4 or so, and that way they can still play together and have the choice of which character to use.

The "3 levels apart" rule usually works well as they can meet each scenario's subtier, and it gives them a good array of classes to play with.

What are the concerns of using the slow path? The main ones I'd read about was more chances to die/expend consumables with less gold/prestige to pay for it. Is that the only concern or are there other things I should be worried about?

I think the main concern would be the dedicated players resenting being forced to play slow track, and only getting half the reward that the less frequent players are getting. Slow track is a tool to be used by player choice.

I will let the players know their options. I know I have a couple that would rather just play 1 character, but I will let them know they can just as easily spread the XP around.
