Poison too easy to avoid?

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

my DM says all afflictions follow the same rule, so according to Core, apparently when you get poisoned, you have an initial save to make. If you make it, you're done, regardless of the poison being listed as "cure 2 saves" or not. If you don't make it, on your turn, you save again, and if you make it, you're done. So you always get two chances to save against poisons.

Is this right? this feels like poisons got gimped.

Your DM is correct. You make an initial saving throw and if you make it, no poison. If you fail then you need to worry about making consecutive saves.

And poisons for PCs are awful.

Unless you knock out a few Wyverns and start a poison milking ranch. The first priority of any self-respecting enterprising poisoner.

You take the poison's initial damage on the first failed save. You don't get 2. Each failed save has its own damage. Also, keep in mind that the poisons that have '2 saves' means 'in a row'. It can be sacry, since con poison reduces your fort.

The more dose you put the higher the save DC. So if you manage to dump a huge amount of even a cheap contract Poisson on someone they might have trouble.

A big blog on poisons.
That should answer most of your questions about poisons.

this blog is awesome, and confirmed that my DM was slightly wrong (you take the initial damage RIGHT AWAY, not on your turn!)
