Paizo are going to work with Big Finish to make an audio play version of RotRL

Yay!

Admittedly, I've not listened to anything from Big Finish, but I've heard great things about their Doctor Who stuff. The first Mcgann episode is just £1.34 (so about $2?) if you want to try them out

I'm looking forward to picking up this subscription. I've recently recognised just how much time I waste sitting in traffic..

For me this is n.1 ad from Gen Con...

So is this a proper actual story or just the Ap book in Audio format. I'm pretty certain it's the first but a lot of people seem to believe it's the second

It'll be the first - Big Finish are an Audio Play company, not a audio book company

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, if you read the press release linked to in the original post, it's pretty clear these will be fully produce, dramatized audio books with a full cast of voice actors, music, sound effects etc.

They sound very cool! :)

Hello!

So I am ready to pre-order my Big Finish audio plays.

I am trying to decide what site to buy them from. Big Finish or Paizo?

Big Finish has them for $45 Canadian (whole season subscription), download only. However, on the press releases the following statement is made: "BigFinish.com and paizo.com will offer subscriptions at a discounted rate."

What, if any, would be the benefit(s) of waiting to subscribe through the Paizo site? Can it be confirmed that Paizo will even offer a download subscription rate and if so what will their cost be, and when will it be offered? Sorry, but I am inpatient and want to get my subscription in place right away. AND, if Paizo isn't going to be offering anything of significant difference with their website's subscription, I would like to go ahead with this purchase through Big Finish, like tomorrow :)

One benefit for the Big Finish site is the availability of using PayPal for payment, so that may have decided this already for me. However, if there are any extras or price differences being offered through the Paizo site, I suppose I cAn wait to part with my money, I would just like to know what it is. Can I get any more info on this line of products?

Our subscription offering isn't quite ready to roll out, but we will have both electronic and non-electronic subscriptions. The price and contents will be roughly equivalent (though we charge in US dollars, and their list price is in pounds, so currency conversions mean there will be *some* price variation).

The major difference is that our subs will be like our other Paizo subs, which are ongoing product line subscriptions rather than one-time limited subscriptions. Which is to say, if you buy a Rise of the Runelords sub from Big Finish, you pay up front for all of Rise of the Runelords, they'll send out the six volumes when they're ready, and then your sub is completed. If you buy a Pathfinder Legends sub from Paizo, we'll charge you individually for each release as it ships, and your sub will continue until you cancel it (so if the Pathfinder Legends line continues past Runelords, you won't have to do anything to keep them coming).

This is awesome. I spend a lot of time in my Jeep these days, and audiobooks and podcasts are some of my favorite things to listen to. I am extremely eager to get my ears on this!

Thank you so much for getting back to me and explaining everything to me!

I am a huge Big Finish fan so mixing Pathfinder with Big Finish is going to be a major highlight of next year for me!

I'm very excited about this. I've been a fan of Big Finish since their very first Doctor Who audio play all those moons ago. Can't wait to see (hear!) what they do with the Pathfinder setting!

:)

Any word on a starting date for the sub?

Hmmm ... the press release says "...Chapter One, Burnt Offerings, expected to release January 2014, with subsequent releases every two months thereafter."

I winder if they are still planning on a release this month or if things have been pushed back a bit?

Things have been pushed back to February—we've got a couple of details that need to be sorted out, but rest assured, things are moving apace.

Thanks, liz.

Any news on those final details?

February's nearly half over (well almost nearly half, anyway) and still no news on when there will be news of these.

Sorry if I seem a bit pushy but I really want them. Soon.

I purchased a subscription from Big Finish yesterday. My subscription page has this to say:

1.1. Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings - Available on 28 February 2014

It has listed dates for all of the chapters, but since this has been pushed back already, I imagine they may still change. So, probably the 28th for chapter one.

Any news on when a Paizo subscription will be available? (Vic or Liz?)

No updated info on that front yet, I'm afraid.

No worries. Fingers crossed it'll be sorted before it goes live elsewhere.

Thanks Liz.

Keep us informed if that changes. I'll try to contain my excitement until then.

It's unclear to me if Big Finish has officially announced the currently planned release date for Volume 1, but I'm confident that it's not February 28.

Their website says March 2014 for episode (?) 1.1 with releases every two months ending with 1.6 releasing January 2015.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There's a trailer for episode one to download, for those interested.

So any idea who the iconics for this audio play are?

Harsk, Ezren, Merisiel and Valeros.

The trailer sounds very good. I have high hopes for these plays.

this site seems to have some info...

Aww :(

I was hoping the date for Volume 1 was correct. I want to start listening now!

Hmm, I just checked and the listing now says this:
1.1. Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings - Available on 31 March 2014

Big Finish always list their releases for the last day of the month, until proved otherwise.

A recent post on their forum from Paul Spragg said:

Everything's now completed and at the pressing stage, so hopefully it won't be too far into March. We just need all the appropriate sign-offs.

So don't take the 31st as a concrete release date.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

I think March 31 is very likely.

Whatever the release day may end up being, I notice they are actually available to pre-order now. This is a good thing.
