i like it, but i feel there should be something for $5 and $10, maybe a sample pdf at one of those levels

I thought about sending out samples of the written rough draft (minus the art) to donors at $10.

Is "Color PDF book" supposed to be "Color POD book" on the above list?

I would have assumed the PDF was already in color.

Yes you are correct. If this does VERY well we are hoping for a 400 page full color book as an $100 option, plus some other bad ass add-ons. Maybe even a cover by a certain well know artist? Hmmm....

Dark Archive

I'm waiting to learn what the stretch goals will be. ;)

Am I understanding this right?

$100: PDF, B&W POD book, Color PDF Book, Submit 2 Traps, Submit 2 Poison / Diseases, Submit 2 Feats, Submit 2 Spells, Submit 2 Templates, Submit 2 Monsters & Submit 2 Monsters

There'll potentially be 380+2x Traps, 310+2x Poison/Diseases, 250+2x Feats, 190+2x Spells, 140+2x Templates, 90+2x Monsters and 40+2x of something else (presuming you double typed monster) submitted by backers (where 'x' is the number of $100 backers)?

That seems like quite a mammoth editing/development effort - especially if you get lots of $100 pledges.

Boy, do I feel bad for the sucker that's gonna have to wade through that slush pile. Ha, ha-ha!

...

Oh, wait.

Red, although I don't necessarily like the white gradient at the bottom.

Hmmm...what about Minotaur Games?

Bah, I'm sure Louis can find more than one sucker to wade through a pile like that...

I'm just wondering if the book will have "Sbmitted by" entries. More because I like the idea of comparing styles and ideas as a learning tool for me.

Normally you would have to be afraid, BUT I am going to do something different...

Oh who am I kidding, you should be afraid. No really. Afraid. I would be running if I was you.

C'mon who else would be THAT crazy?

Thanks for the input.

We approached Jason with the hope he might be available but he informed me that he is going to be too busy with Paizo AND his 3PP. But hey you never know, thing might change in the future...

I planning to do that in the table of contents at least for the monsters and "maybe" for the additional content.

While you will get the opportunity to submit 2 of each, all of them will not be going in the book.

Out of the submissions we are looking at picking roughly 40 traps, 40 poisons / diseases, 40 feats, 30 spells, 10 templates and 10 monsters reaching the final book in addition to the material being submitted by the named writers and companies. This isn't just submit and you are in. This is going to be the "Best of the Best" contest material is going in. The higher the reward you choose, the more opportunities and possibility you get to get your material in the final book with some of the most influential writers and companies in 3PP. But Quality NOT quantity is our focus for this kickstarter.

How great would it be to get your name in a book with Mike Shel, John Wick, Clinton Boomer, Amanda Hamon, Owen KC Stephens, Sean K Reynolds and MANY MANY more? How much would that be worth to you as an potential first time writer / game developer?

Cheers. That makes more sense. There's no value in user-submitted content to me, but I'm sure it will be appealing to many (even if its most likely your submission won't make the final cut).

Sovereign Court

Mmm ... submissions. And Time ... mmm...

Now of course, if I only had suitable vic... err PCs to test them on ... :)

MWHAHAHAHAHA !

OOOO!!! New name idea!

So, umm, where's the actual link to the kickstarter... or is this all a bunch of hot air for now?

We are hoping for January 2014, so you can have money saved up to support this. Since we keep adding names to this everyday to work on this project, I have a feeling this is going to be a BIG BOOK!

Planning and preliminary announcements now. Kickstarter then.

Thank you, read the entire thread and still somehow missed that. Kind of weird talking to my doppelganger though.

OK I "think" I have finally decided on the reward tiers for this still unnamed upcoming Monster Kickstarter. Tell us what you think of these rewards:

*snip* ...

$60 (Limit 25): PDF, B&W POD book, Submit 2 Traps, Submit 2 Poison / Diseases, Submit 2 Feats & Submit 2 Spells

*snip*...

You know, considering that there's a giant book of spells coming from Kobold in the not so far future, something other than spells might be a better choice. Haunts or hazards, perhaps?

But I like spells... :-)

Good point. Perhaps it's time I hunt down a new avatar, kill it, and assume its form.

After kicking around ideas for a while I "think" I might have come up with a name for this product / kickstarter which I am not going to reveal yet because I could still (might) change my mind, again. So for right now I am still working on rewards and threshold goals including something crazy like having two completely different covers, one for the black & white and one for the color edition. We still have months to go before this starts and we want to make the best kickstarter and product possible so be a little patient and keep telling us what you want to see with this kickstarter, because you might get your wish fulfilled.

In some ways, they are going to be hard to compete with. They're on the inside of what's taking place at Paizo via being freelancers on the actual products, and they have name association with Paizo fans who already respect their work. To top it off, they make a high-quality product to boot, and they now have Rachel Ventura as their business manager. I expect they will soon be forging well ahead of the remainder of us.
Ah thanks! We plan to continue to produce top notch products that the Pathfinder fan is both interested in and can immediately add into their current games. Lots of fun stuff planned for the future :)
Since i LOVE competition I think this a great way to motivation us over at LPJ Design to do even cooler project and possibly even to crossover projects. :-) I mean I am sure they are going to do a campaign setting "soon", so we could even start a 3PP "Crisis on Infinite Worlds" with one villain that is OGL that we use in our products as the master bad guy who teams up with the bad guys of each 3PP campaign setting to cause damage/destruction. Hmmmm....I like they way it sounds. I might have to make a few calls...

This was what I had in mind when you teased the project without much specifics other than contributors and why it didn't seem as (relatively) awe-inspiring when the monster book idea was revealed. So from that perspective, I hope that clarifies my initial reaction.

Don't get me wrong, the collaborative monster book is a great concept, but the setting-based adventure crossover is utterly cosmic in comparison. Monsters is almost minor league* in comparison to a multi-company, multi-setting epic crossover adventure series.

I'm pleased to hear you're looking into it.

If you can pull it off, it would simply be ... incredible, astonishing, magnificent ... nonpareil.

*I know I'm such a spoiled customer with an out-sized sense of entitlement. I think it's awesome, if I do say so myself. ;)

Now back to your regular programming.
