You should download the free Player's Guide and review it for ideas (specifically, the campaign traits can be used to tie the characters' backstories together; especially if multiple characters have the same campaign trait). Also, Ultimate Campaign has a quick method: pick one player to start, that player decides or rolls on a table how their character is acquainted with the character of the player on their left, proceeding clockwise around the table until each character has a backstory connection to two other characters in the party.
For a more involved method, you could have a session that is nothing more than all of the players working on the backstories of their characters and developing connections between them (with the GM providing guidance on how it fits within the setting). Alternately, the GM can set guidelines/restrictions on backgrounds (all characters must be from Kenabres, all characters must be blood relatives, etc.).
