Question about "Bleed"

Rules Questions

School necromancy; Level cleric 0, sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one living creature
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates; Spell Resistance: yes
You cause a living creature that is below 0 hit points but stabilized to resume dying. Upon casting this spell, you target a living creature that has –1 or fewer hit points. That creature begins dying, taking 1 point of damage per round. The creature can be stabilized later normally. This spell causes a creature that is dying to take 1 point of damage.

So my question is when would I use this? Enemy's die at 0 hit points anyways don't they? So there would be no need to cause a dead monster to resume dying right?

- Thanks Dan

All living creatures die at Neg HP equal to their Con score. Undead and Constructs die at 0 HP. Summoned creatures, almost always, disappear at 0 HP.

alright thank you very much, also bonus question if I may, when a creature is dying do they become prone and/or helpless?

When they hit -1 they are unconscious. When they fall unconscious... they fall; i.e. they become prone.

A dying and unconscious creature is considered helpless. They almost always fall prone as well. Some GM's may say that some monsters, due to physical makeup, do not or can not fall prone.

E.g. a Gelatinous Ooze.

Last one I swear, So when they hit exactly 0 what happens?

Most of what you are looking for is on page 60 of the Hero's Handbook.

Alright thank you all.

You are disabled. You can only take a move or a standard action (not both), plus a free action. If you take a standard action you loose 1 HP after completing the action.

Moving this to the Rules forum, as the Beginner Box forum is just for questions about the Beginner Box (which doesn't have the bleed spell). :)
