My group has been playing the latest rules-release of D&D 5e. It is really
good; both as a new system and as a revival of REAL D&D.
As an added bonus, my 30 year collection of D&D material is "relevant" again. I like that. Hah!
(let's see how long this lasts..)

I downloaded the material to playtest it. I was going to give it a try with my group. We are not super loyal to any system, but D&D has burned us once and so far Pathfinder has held us high and true. What do you think is the best and worst part so far in the play test?

There are nearly 200 books labbeled D&D surrounding the very computer I'm using to type this. There are even some boardgames labbeled the same way. There's also a hat shaped like a chicken's butt, though I'm not sure it's relevant.
So either D&D was never gone, or I really need to get glasses.
More seriously, I'm pretty happy about what I've seen so far regarding D&D Next. Definitely something that comes closer to my personal preference regarding the game. I was happy as a banana tree when they announced the cosmology would use Planescape as the default.
