First let me say thanks. I've been posting lots of questions lately and have always received patient and courteous answers.
The Sarenrae Cleric ability Rebuke Death says:
"when you use rebuke death, touch a dying ally. You heal the ally 1d4+1/2 cleric level hp. Activating rebuke death is a standard action."
Is "activating" the same as "using"? In other words, can the cleric activate rebuke death and touch his ally all in the same action? Or must you spend an action to activate it, then wait until your next turn to touch your ally?
Thanks!

Magical abilities such as rebuke death that require you to touch a target work just like touch-range spells: you activate the ability as a standard action, and on that round you can touch the target as a free action (see Hero's Handbook, page 61).
Ok, missed that bit in the Hero's handbook. So the touching is a separate action, but a free one. So the cleric could do the following: activate rebuke death (standard), take a five foot step toward the ally (move) and touch the ally (free).
It's crystal clear now, thank you. I'll be running my first game of Pathfinder this Saturday and am preparing like mad - I feel like I'm studying for an exam!

Yup, I think you've got it!
Don't worry too much about getting the rules exactly right. The most important thing is to have fun! You can always go back and figure out the "right" way to do things later.

You can't return to your original position at the end of it.
On your turn, you get:
• a standard action
• a move action
• a free action (or more than one, depending on what you're doing and if the GM allows it)
So if you're the cleric with rebuke death in this example, you can do:
• a standard action (activate rebuke death)
• a move action (move up to a fallen ally)
• a free action (touch the ally and zap him with rebuke death)
And then you're done. It doesn't matter if you didn't use all of your move for that move action (like 15 feet out of a possible 20 feet), it's still "a move action."
If you were next to your fallen ally, you could instead do this:
• a standard action (activate rebuke death)
• a free action (touch the ally and zap him with rebuke death)
• a move action (move away from the fallen ally)
