Rules Questions

Hi all! New to Pathfinder so please bear with me. I'm looking at the Balor stats, and notice he has sword attacks, whip attacks, and bash attacks. I realize on a standard action he can only choose either 1 attack with sword, OR 1 attack with whip OR 1 bash. (Is that correct?) What confuses me is if he chooses a full round action to use his attacks. Does he get all his sword attacks AND all his whip attacks? His other choice would be his 2 bash attacks. I need to wrap my head around this lol. Thank you for any insight you can give.

You are correct - as a full attack, the balor can get all of his sword and whips attacks, or he can do 2 slam attacks. As a standard action, he can perform a single attack with either his sword, whip, or slam.

If the listed attacks are separated only with a comma, then they are all part of the same full attack. Only when they are separated by "or" do you have to choose one or the other.

For reference:

Balor wrote:
Melee +1 vorpal unholy longsword +31/+26/+21/+16 (2d6+13), +1 vorpal flaming whip +30/+25/+20 (1d4+7 plus 1d6 fire and entangle) or 2 slams +31 (1d10+12)

That is correct.

Correct. The Balor chooses one of the two following lines of attack:

1. Four attacks with the +1 vorpal unholy longsword and three attacks with the +1 vorpal flaming whip. For best effect, use a quickened telekinesis to drag your target within reach of the whip (20 ft.), attack with the whip until you get a successful entangle, draw the target to an adjacent square, then finish with the longsword while the target remains grappled.

Or...

2. If the Balor is somehow without its weapons, it could do two slams instead. It's probably better off casting implosion or fire storm.

When attacks are listed with a comma between them that means they both occur in the same (full) attack sequence. If there is an OR between them then it is one or the other.

So yes: Sword and Whip attacks or Slam attacks.

There is option 3. +1 vorpal unholy longsword +33/+28/+23/+18 (2d6+13) [or +1 vorpal flaming whip +32/+27/+22/+17 (1d4+13 plus 1d6 fire and entangle)] AND 1 slam +26 (1d10+6).

And a small change in the above tactics. A balor should use it's teleport at will to move to an adjacent square if the quickened telekinesis fails or distance to far for melee attack/charge.
