I'm very pleased with the 3 announced authors.

And Ye Gods they have some good talent to pull from for the other 3. Pett, Spicer, Vaughan...

But 2 authors have done very interesting things in Osirion in the past. The Evil Kortes, and some guy named Bull-Man.

Bear in mind, we don't know what was said to engender that remark, so we still know very little.

Erik mentioned the flying pyramids and alien invaders. Somebody from the audience asked about stargates, and Erik answered that you'd have to ask Rob McCreary about that.

My reaction when I first heard about that AP: FaWTL

EDIT: I had no idea that aliens were actually announced when I wrote that.

Oh yes, Kortes is an author. Book 4 or 5, I think?

And to be fair, Jim not being ecstatic about baba yaga is a bit like Mikaze not going bonkers about a good full-orc paladin of Sarenrae that's all about redemption. From a tribe of good aligned orcs.

Something is going on if you see that.

So what you are saying is, aliens confirmed for Brawl? :D

So is Mike Shel one of the remaining two authors?

What is that Great One....yes Your Worshipfulness, right away

The Mighty Cthulhu has informed me that a letter of ceasing and desisting will soon be on its way from the entity known as "Chaosium". You may now resume your pathetic mortal lives.

:P

I can't remember the other 2. and i am still only 75ish certain on Amber. I was in a game with her right before the seminar, and just remember saying congrats on writing for it the next time I saw her. I don't actually remember hearing her name announced, just the after effect. Sigh.

Maybe someone else there can fill in the gaps. There were something like 30 to 40 people there!

Hmm. Reading up on Aucturn, to refresh my memory.

One of the adventure hooks could tie in; it refers to an Osirian pyramid where the PCs solve an ancient riddle opening a portal to Aucturn.

Aucturn's also got a lot of that mysterious black, acidic muck deep within its bowels- muck that bears a notable resemblance to substances found in the Land of Black Blood and the Crown of the World.

According to JJ, no Dominion of Black or countdown clocks. :(

The Exchange

Wait, so what is the complete author list for the AP? I know we have Jim Groves, Amber Scott, Crystal Frasier. are the other 3 known?

Here's the quote so you don't have to click through:

We've so far not said much more about the Mummy's Mask Adventure Path aside from revealing the titles and authors. No plot info yet. Rob's the primary architect for it, so he'll be the one to ask for more info as time comes.

Erik DID mention "aliens" in his speech at the banquet, which wasn't quite accurate. At this point, we're not planning on including any Dominion of the Black elements in the AP, or many links to the countdown clocks mentioned in the earlier Kortes adventures. The "Mummy's Mask" is a lot less about that and a lot more about an ancient intolerant mummy.

Based on the Titles the ancient intolerant mummy could be Menedes I.

Aw, disappointing. Was looking forward to some weirdness.

Still, not saying no to another good desert-and-pyramids themed adventure.

Flying pyramids aren't weird?

You must be jaded :)

Might be =) Flying cities are pretty standard fantasy fare as far as I'm aware. Shouldn't be common enough to feel overplayed, which thus far they haven't been thankfully, but not so out of left field as aliens would be IMO.

Orthos wrote:

I'm sure they'll be plenty of weirdness, although I'm slightly glad if they move away from the star-gate concept. It's a good one, but quite predictable.

Although if there's no dark tapestry links that would be a slight pity.

It's a Paizo AP, there's a good chance that the party will at least find some cultist scrawlings somewhere. Like in Kingmaker.

So an unusual AP with alien planets and "modern" Russia, then a mythic and now an AP with aliens. I really hope they hold off on the aliens for an AP or two, space it out. I'm all for a cool Osirion path and flying pyramids, throw in aliens and I can sadly see the ridicule arising from the star gate analogies. Still will wait and see. Then again I really want another kingmaker style AP...

Just hoping this ends up being what I thought Legacy of Fire would be. Traditional, Desert of Desolation-style epic.

Silver Crusade

Even if the Dominion is a no-show, I'm still on Cloud 9 with an AP all about Osirion happening. Especially with that list of writers. I'm really eager to see what they do with those Egyptian themes, especially those beyond the expected(but admittedly requisite) pyramids, mummies, and pharaohs. :D

Forever hopeful.

A good full-orc Celestial Totem barbarian of Sarenrae that's all about redemption would be even better.

Also now wondering if Hakotep has any relation to Kahotep. Evil twin? ;)

(srsly though, one has his name tied to a landmark called the Slave Trenches and the other is sleeping in Nirvana)

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

Secrets of the Sphinx (book 4) is most probably the Black Sphinx, the tomb of the Sky Pharaoh.

And the Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh (book 6) pretty much speaks for itself.

So Menedes I seems a real good fit for the ancient mummy.

I suspect a strong Cthulhu mythos taint.

Should be interesting.

I do look forward to a more traditional fantasy adventure path, like Runelords, maybe next time.

Sooooo. I guess my Mythic players vs Mecha-Sphinx game would be a perfect addition to this eh?

Because I had monster zombie android factories build by wizards making undead clockwork armies.

Just saying.

I guess we can assume with the Undead Slayer's Handbook slated for release next year and the Mummy in the title, that this book will feature undead as a prominent foe?

Seems like we just had that with Carrion Crown, but I guess that was a while ago. And not wholly undead themed.

I may be incorrect, but I seem to recall Hakotep being identified as the Sky Pharaoh in the 2013-2014 catalog they passed out at PaizoCon.

I am excited about the Egyptian pantheon that re being introduced as the Old Gods of Osirion. I am tentatively hoping that Mummy's Mask pits old gods against the new.

This is the text in the new catalogue:

The nation of Osirion was born at the dawn of the Age of Destiny, and over the millennia, a succession of powerful pharaohs and god-kings have guided its people through history. Royal pyramids and monuments to pharaonic rule are scattered throughout the deserts of Osirion, many buried beneath the shifting sands for centuries, hidden from modern memory.
The discovery of an ancient relic in a long-lost tomb opens a doorway to the distant past, and a sinister cult will stop at nothing to bring a forgotten pharaoh back to life. As the living dead stalk the streets and flying pyramids appear in the skies over Osirion’s greatest cities, can anyone prevent the mummy of Hakotep the Sky Pharaoh from conquering Osirion and reclaiming the lands he once ruled in ages past, or will Osirion become a land of the dead?
The Mummy’s Mask Adventure Path casts the player characters as tomb raiders and explorers, delving into ancient ruins to discover the means to defeat an ancient pharaoh returned from the grave over the course of six monthly campaign installments and a host of support accessories. The Mummy’s Mask takes characters into a land of majestic pyramids, buried sphinxes, and crumbling ruins to face a powerful mummy intent on reclaiming his rightful throne!

Oh well, if it's his rightful throne, then the PCs are kind of dicks for trying to stop him. Sheds an entirely different light on this adventure path!

Worth noting: Although there's not likely to be much at all about aliens in "Mummy's Mask," that's NOT the same thing as saying there won't be much at all about aliens in ALL upcoming Adventure Paths.

Glad there isn't Stargate stuff or the like (as much as I like Stargate) - it's not "weird" at all. It's predictable and almost cliche these days. (My players would groan immediately.)

But, really glad about an Osirion/Egyptian campaign. Might actually start buying APs again, once I find out about the specific details for each volume in the coming months (to avoid any possible unpleasant single-volume surprises and the like).

Was there more than one Sky Pharaoh, because Menedes I is identified as the Sky Pharaoh in Osirion: Land of the Pharaohs and Hakotep I is mentioned as a pharaoh which is largely unknown except for him being responsible for construction of the Slave Trenches?

Odd that Hakotep is the Sky Pharaoh, in contradiction to information from the Osirion book.

"can anyone prevent the mummy of Hakotep the Sky Pharaoh from conquering Osirion and reclaiming the lands he once ruled in ages past...?"

As I recall, both Rahadoum and Thuvia were once ruled by Osirion. So maybe the AP will be taking us to one or both of those places?

This would be Amber's second AP adventure—she's writing the opening adventure to the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path!

Oh, dur.

Still, very excited. I love both their work.

I am just excited to be here!

Seriously, I am excited to be working with both Amber and Crystal. I have been a fan of Crystal's ever since The Harrowing, and got to work with some of her design elements in Murder's Mark.

I loved her Varisian circus at first sight, and while she may or may not liked everything I did with it (I have no idea), I actually fought* to preserve it the way I found it.

After The Harrowing and Murder's Mark and all that came after, I'm really excited to see that rich development of NPCs and fantastic weirdness applied to Osirion. :)

Amber Scott too! After reading Chronicles of the Righteous, that compassionate approach to values dissonance is another thing I'm hyped up to see applied to Osirion.

Man I can't believe we're finally going to Osirion. :D
