A night of revelry at the Formidably Maid sees four unlucky patrons become the latest additions to the crew of the Wormwood. Will the newcomers thrive in their new positions or become food for the sharks?

1 to 50 of 128 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Ahoy thar, land lubbers!

Within the Formidably Maid four unlucky souls are destined to suffer impressment into the crew of the Wormwood and I need a group of stalwart volunteers who are not faint of heart to endure the trials ahead. Plunder and infamy await those who are up to the task and a watery grave to those that cannot...

Requirements

  • Read the Player's Guide
  • 20-Point Buy
  • Average Starting Gold (more on this after recruitment is complete)
  • Core races, though I will only consider ONE "advanced" race submission
  • Classes and archetypes can be chosen from Core, APG, Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat as well as any Golarion book.
  • Two traits (One Campaign, One Regular).
  • Character description, alignment, backstory and personality. Incorporate both traits into your backstory.
  • Be willing to post once per day (even on weekends) at minimum.

If you don't have an alias made, don't worry about it until you've gotten past basic recruitment. Spend more time and energy on the above. We can deal with crunch later.

Submissions will be accepted until May 16th. That's right, it's a very short recruitment phase because I know there's HUGE interest in this Adventure Path. The four poor souls will be chosen by Sunday, May 18th at the latest.

My GMing style is more "serious business" and "gritty" but injected humour isn't frowned upon. One of my big rules as a GM is that you can do what you want but accept the consequences. NPCs aren't just static foils, but just as "real" as the PCs, so keep that in mind before submitting.

I will also be using the "Peg Legs & Eye Patches" alternate rules from the Player's Guide so ye hath been warned!

Good luck everyone and I'm really looking forward to seeing your submissions and running this AP!

Alignment restrictions? i.e. Are Evil characters okay?

None, but Lawful Good is not conducive to piracy. Evil is allowed but you have to be able to work with the party. The first adventure is going to be difficult enough without you guys cutting each others throats right off the bat.

How do you feel about Eastern material? i.e. Ninja, samurai, etc.

Eastern material is definitely allowed. Senchu Bay and the Ushinawa Isles are both in the Shackles and they're both associated with the Tian folk.

Wonderful to hear. I am going to whip up a Vishkanya Ninja. :)

Definitely interested.

Urban Barbarian, Chaotic Neutral -- ignore the numbers on this profile, they were for a different campaign that unfortunately never actually made it off the ground.

Background and personality are finished, I'll write up a description tomorrow.

I am definitely interested. I think everythhing relevant is in the profile.

And Gunslingers, do they have a place within pirates? No worries, I am aware that you start without anything, I am just asking/checking to see if there are possibilities for finding some later on, makint this a (non-)viable build?

I will get my 'Siren' character finished up in the next day or so... I'll submit a Kitsune version if thats fine, and I can always rework her to be human.

Hey! No fair, I was here first! (Just kidding)

Hello, may I introduce Jasmine Rose for consideraton. A female, elf, LE, air elemental wizard. Posting daily is fine. Thanks

If you will have me I will be the best damn pilot you will ever see.

GM --- Skull & Shackles:

I need to finish the story and crunch but otherwise please tell me what you think of it.

I need to rework the stats and the background. The character was made to work with another character that got picked, but mine didn't :|.

Anyway I submit Allysen for your consideration.

Are Tieflings acceptable as part of "Core races"?

according to the link tiefling is a advanced race

I would like to submit Jensen Roust. I built him for another S&S game, and got accepted as a "backup".

But seeing as the four who were actually chosen seem to be legit I doubt I would have a chance at getting in there at this point.

Jensen is a half-elf(water child) Magus. I have a brief background, personality, appearance, and the crunch in the profile. I have to make a few tweaks to gear and add a little more to the background but should be pretty put together already.

Let me know any questions or concerns.

Here is the submission for Tanner Nielsen. I went with the Buccaneer's Blood campaign trait. For ease of reading, I will include her physical description, personality, and background in this post. Thanks!

Description:

Hair: None
Eyes: White
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 130lb

You see a regal-looking woman with a shaved head and purple skin. Closer examination shows her skin is made up of fine scales that from a distance of even a few feet look just like particularly smooth. Her eyes are a pearly white, with no visible iris. She has a thin nose, high cheek bones, and a strong jaw. She is dressed in black leathers, with a curved sword of eastern make at her belt and a dagger. She is tall, with a slim frame and straight posture.

Personality:

No one would ever call Arjun a friendly person. Or nice, or caring, or warm, or anything of that sort. She has a tendency of scaring children who cross her path and a disconcerting disregard for people around her. Professional? Of course. Competent? Very much. Meticulous? Sometimes tediously so. But never friendly. It is difficult to know whether or not Arjun cares for or approves any person or thing in particular - most of the time she is quick to recognize faults, especially her own, and is terse with praise. She is the sort of person you want tackling a tough project, but would never invite to a dinner party. Not that it would have bothered her, of course.

Background:

Arjun hails from the island-nation of Jalmeray. Her family of vishkanya, ostracized and shunned as outsiders due to their appearance, was a somewhat notorious clan of thieves, burglars, bandits and assassins that specializes in guile and stealth. For generations they found liberation and lucrative work in criminal enterprises and were content to stay in Jalmeray. Much to their shock and dismay, Arjun's grandfather Nopor announced one day that he intended to become a pirate on the high seas. He left abruptly, leaving the clan to believe that he was destined to never return.

He did return, several years later, with stories to tell. He had become a Free Captain of the Shackles - with a flotilla of raiders at his command and a small hill of treasure in his holds. Quieting the naysayers and impressing the clan elders, Arjun's family took to piracy with enthusiasm. They found that their abilities and talents were well suited to a life of piracy, and trained Arjun while still very young in the skills she would need to succeed.

When she reached adulthood, Arjun left her home to strike out and make a name for herself. She went to a tavern called the Formidably Maid, a notorious pirate hangout in Port Peril, eager to start her career as a buccaneer. While she was there, however, a dashing and flirtatious corsair caught her eye, and after a whirlwind night of booze and romance, she found yourself beaten senseless and stuffed in a sack, carried off to who knows where.

Grand Lodge

Submitting Ander Tarviano, runaway and criminal Taldar noble, swearing revenge to the empire of Taldor and paying back tenfold.

Short Crunch:

Ander belongs to the family of Taldor nobility: Tarvianos. Outside appearance is those of an arrogant, snobby and greedy power-hunger middle class (think of something similar to Sopranos but lesser versio) and inside... the famous crime family running schemes and plots behind on the streets and trying to increase their power.

Their family ties catched to various criminals, proven guilty and accused of murders etc etc illegal acts. Result: swift judgement and bounty on their head. Escaping from his wizard studies and swearing revenge of loosing his wealth and comfortable life (Ander is also aware of his family background and have already took some part on them) he now swears to get it back no matter what means... and what is best than being an pirate and pillaging the ships of Taldor. Steal what you can and exact the revenge on them by their family oldest traditions "Lex Thalio= Law of Talion (Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth) with their dreadful motto Nemo Me Impune Lacessit...

Even if the build isn't viable as is written for the adventure, any gunslinger/gun wielding characters (should they be chosen) will have equipment supplied for them through treasure swap out and opportunity to craft ammo/guns/what have you.

Kitsune is acceptable, again---there are a few Tian places in the Shackles as I mentioned above.

Zouron is correct. I consider it an "advanced" race and only one (un)lucky player is allowed to take that slot so it does narrow your chances down slightly since you'll be competing not only against others of the same role, but others with an "advanced" race but feel free!

Then please consider my submission to be the "can be changed to Human at any time with minimal adjustment" sort of character. ;)

I'd like to submit Seijiro for this campaign. All stats and background are in the profile.

I am retired and can post multiple times a day. :)

It was my "bad" for not actually reading the link - I'd assumed you were referring to the forthcoming Advanced Race Guide.

Regardless, I had a better character idea than anything Tiefling-related anyways (elf cleric of Besmara). I'll get something more detailed up later.

Tanner - you left off Seijiro, but I probably ninja'd your post while you were preparing it... Seijiro definitely falls in the skills monkey spot.

I'd like to throw a grenade in the ring....er, hat in the ring. Shorty would serve as ranged damage dealer and kinda skill monkey.

Background::

Shorty grew up on the wharfs and in the seaside taverns of Ilizmagorti under the long reaching shadow of the Crimson Citadel. His natural inclination towards destruction and his intelligence eventually led to him coming under the tutelage of a local alchemist, Tesher "Half-Hand" Darcy. After his training Shorty did not have enough money to open a shop of his own, but was soon contracted by a pirate captain known as The Blackhand who wanted a large quantity of alchemist fire. Shorty thought that the captain just wanted the substance to help defend his ship against possible pursuers. After all, catching a pursuing ship on fire was a great way to cause it to break it's pursuit. It turned out that The Hand had a grudge against a local merchant and used the alchemist fire to burn down the man's warehouse. Sitting in a bar after the arson, one of Shorty's friends came in and told him the bad news: the merchant had connections to the Red Mantis organization and they may not appreciate Shorty's role in the fire. Shorty realized he needed to leave port quickly and joined the first crew he could, eventually ending up in Port Peril.

Lucia should probably be moved into the 'gish' category, really. The rest of her leveling will be as a bard, using the Court Bard archetype, probably with a mix of spells and combat maneuvers with a little damage up close.

EDIT: Why yes, I do enjoy tormenting the class fluff to play weirder concepts than allowed, why do you ask?

I am currently writing up a Storm Druid, likely a dwarf, perhaps based on Professor Charles Hawthorne (in my aliases). He can fill the role of divine caster, and a bit of weather control is never a bad idea at sea. I'll post the alias tonight.

I should also state that the adventure path has sidebars strewn throughout the entire AP so that firearms can be included. While firearms are extremely rare, and the Hurricane King is one of the very, very few pirates to possess firearms (and cannons), the option has 'official' support.

I have not included the Dodo's familiar's entire stats yet. I understand that they are in the first AP, I only have the PG. I will update that crunch when I get the stats.

This dour ship's surgeon is sure to think little of the Wormwood - a sad excuse for flotsam - with an undisciplined mob for a crew. But he is a carpenter and an engineer with shipping know-how. He's a genuine wizard of wood.

Hopefully one day he will finally get impressed onto a ship!

background:

Sylvanus was born and raized in the city of Botosani in the nation of Rahadoum. Sylvanus is of mixed heritage being part

Chelaxian and part Garundi. Sylvanus came from a well to do family while not noble they definately could afford good

schooling as well as fine food.

Sylvanus always had a desire for history and his father, by trade, was both a professor as well as an explorer. Sylvanus

studied history with his father on expeditions into the Rahadoum desert and into the Napsune Mountains.

Sylvaus soon was of age to attened the prestigous college of ancient studies in Azir. Sylvanus graduated near top of his

class and was one only a few that attended not of any noble birth.

Sylvanus followed his father's footseps to some degree becomeing an "obtainer of rare antiquties" As part of his college

years Sylvanus began involved with the Pathfinder Society and soon joined ther ranks. Syvanus has made some connections

through the society of individuals that would be able to recieve the artifacts he would be able to retrieve. eventually

Sylvanus hopes to open a museum of history in Azir.

Its been Only two years following graduation and Sylvanus has already been involved in three expeditions to the Eternal

Oasis looking for for clues to an ancient Azlanti city hidden in the Mwangi Expanse.

Unbeknowst to the expedition leader Erodel several member of his team were mercenary assassins who were using Erodel to

find the Azlanti city and all of its hidden treasures for their employers; The Red Mantis.

During the expedition Erodel managed to find a stone carving revelaing a clue to finding the ancient city of Ghol-Gan in

the islands of the Shakles and Erodel was able to find information that would connect that ancient city to the Azlanti.

This was all that the mercinaries needed and they struck. easily overpowering the other hired hands and subdueing Erodel

and leaving Sylvanus for dead.

When Sylvanus awoke he was being treated by a Garundi Nomad named Sefu. Sefu told Sylvanus all that he had seen and told

him that the men headed to the west toward the city of Botosani they already had a five day head start. Sefu told Sylvanus

that his friend was taken prisoner but he was able to keep this jounal from being taken. Sefu gave Sylvanus the journal

detailing all of Erodel's notes on the Azlanti city nothing concerning Ghol-Gan.

Sefu traveled with Sylvanus to the city of Botosani and during the jouney Sylvanus became friends with Sefu adn he was able

to learn the strange language of the Mwangai from him. Sefu, being a traveled Nomad had learned many languages in his

travels.

With no money available Sylvanus had to get hired on as a deck hand on a merchant ship heading to Port Peril so he could

track down those that kidnapped Eroldel. The trip was long and it was hard work but Sylvanus was a quick learner and soon

was a proficient deck hand. He managed to gather even more information about his destination.

The Ship made port at Port Peril and Sylvanus collected his pay and began his search. nearly a month in Port Peril eand

every clue was a dead end. He soon realized he was asking the wrong questions and soon he had a new lead, an old sailor had

obtained a map to hidden Cyclops treasure in Ghol-Gan. This seemed promising, so Sylvanus when to meet this sailor at the

Formidably Maid.

I forgot to add a section about personality, so here it is.

Personality:
Shorty was not raised around many other dwarves, but he stills shares many of their stereotypical traits.: he is stubborn, blunt, greedy, and loves a good drink. Whereas most dwarves have a stalwart, longterm view, Shorty has very little foresight or patience. Some have called him mad and chaotic, but he actually just revels in a good swath of destruction and a job quickly accomplished.

Crunch for my Elf cleric of Besmara is more or less finished. Background, etc needs to be done still - I expect to have that done tomorrow, or Tuesday at the latest.

Scarab Sages

Here's my submission of Faust Drebin a waves oracle

Fluff

Spoiler:

Faust was born to a lowly wench in one of the many bars in port peril that cater to local pirates and brigands. Normally this would make him just like any of hundreds of other children in any other port city across all of golarion, and just like all of those children he was unwanted. His mother wanted him so much in fact, that she had gone to local herbalists and even witches in hopes that they would relieve her of her unborn child. She even went to the church of Besmara in hopes that they could do something which they refused, saying that her unborn child belonged to the sea.

Nine months later when. Faust was born, his mother did just what the church of Besmara said and tossed him into the sea. Unfortunately for her the sea didn't want Faust and with a crash a great wave threw him back. To make matters worse many sailors saw this happen and swiftly took Faust to a seer who decried that Faust was a blessing from Besmara and should be raised upon the sea.

Faust spent the next seventeen years being raised by those same sailors that witnessed his birthday upon a local whaling vessel learning to hunt, spear and butcher whales and other sea creatures.

Having just come off a rather long and fruitless expedition he stumbled into the Formidably Maid to drink it off and ...

Traits
Besmara's blessing (+1 perception and profession sailor checks and one profession sailor reroll per week)
Strong arm, supple wrist (move 10 ft in round to increase throwing range increments by 10)

Alright, I've gone over everyone's submissions for the time being and I have some ideas on who I'd be interested in GMing for but there's still plenty of time to submit and obviously nothing's set in stone yet! I also recognize a few familiar faces from the other S&S threads floating around and I'm sorry to see that you guys haven't been picked up yet. Maybe fourth (fifth? SIXTH?!) time'll be the charm.

One hopes that sheer stubbornness would be a virtue in a case like this.

Oh, by the way, thanks for setting up the categorized list of submissions! It's definitely helpful for people to see where the competition stands in terms of odds.

Do you have any idea how stupid we are? don't underestimate us!!! >..<

Arr matey! Whar do we sign up?

Jehova here, presenting Tiberius Locke, an extremely perceptive half-elf sailor who grew up in Ilizmagorti. He's had a knack for weather his whole life.

Crunch is about done, we don't get any items, correct?

Backstory is in progress, but I wanted to get him up here as soon as possible.
