What do you give a Cassisian?

Advice

Assume for a moment that a character is using Lesser Planar Ally to request the services of an angel. Due to limits of spellcasting, lack of money, or being cheap, the only angel such a character can afford the services of is a Cassisian, a low-level angel in the form of a flying, winged helmet.

According to Ultimate Magic, "they are often simply appeased with gifts that allow them to join the fray against evil creatures."

Thus a question comes to mind: what do you give a creature whose main form is a flying helmet? Sure it can polymorph, but only temporarily. You can give its humanoid form a magic sword, but how would it use it while in helmet form?

Angel, Cassisian:

This finely crafted golden helm is decorated with intricate filigree, and flutters gracefully through the air on feathered wings.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Perfect Memory (Ex)
Though they are not particularly intelligent, cassisians have perfect memories and remember everything they see or hear. They can faultlessly recite conversations they heard hundreds of years before. They also have the power to erase portions of their own memories, which they do (usually under orders from superior angels) to protect sensitive information.

Lesser Protective Aura (Su)
A cassisian has a lesser form of the protective aura possessed by more powerful angels. This protective aura grants the cassisian a +2 deflection bonus to its AC against evil foes, and a +2 resistance bonus on all saving throws made against evil effects or spells cast by evil creatures. This aura extends to a radius of 5 feet, but can only benefit one additional creature other than the cassisian at any one time. A cassisian’s protective aura is fragile, and as soon as an evil creature successfully strikes the cassisian, or as soon as the cassisian fails a saving throw against an evil source, its protective aura fades away and is no longer applicable. The cassisian can reactivate its protective aura by spending 1 minute concentrating upon the task.

Offer it the opportunity to be your helm, protecting your head and aiding the party, while you quest against evil...

Yes, I have summoned a hat...

Or give it a goblin?

A question then comes to mind then- would it be hubris to try and upgrade the angel helmet?

Sure, the angel is a flying helmet, but would it be insulted or delighted if you offered to combine it into a magic item? Is it the height of hubris or a very nice gesture to make the angel's body a Helm of Brilliance?

Liberty's Edge

It's a creature, not a construct. Body modification as a reward for service? Maybe for someone with extremely low self-esteem.

Let's say I summoned you, and as a reward for your service I offered to improve you by plating your flesh with rhinestones and studs from my Bedazzler? Are you thrilled yet? Trust me, you'll be glorious!!!

Instead of giving the payment to the Cassisian, what about donating it to a truly worthy cause? If the Cassisian believes the money to be well spent, he'll help you.

Perhaps an Ioun Stone. They should be able to utilise these with no problems.

Dark Archive

wow. I totally misread the title

wait this is not about calistrians?
whyyyyyyyyy

I usually picture them as Marvin the Martian's hat...

Some turtle wax and a rag.

What does any outsider need material wealth for?

Liberty's Edge

Michael Bolton tickets.

Headband over the Helmet. Major style trend in Celestial realms.

EDIT: But seriously, why does the fact that it's Polymorphed humanoid form is temporary mean anything here?
It can still use the form sometime, and things it can use in that form are thus useful to it.
The point of the Polymorph form is that it is sometimes useful, and thus is actually used sometimes.

The hat can still wear body-slot items. They merge into it's form. As per polymorph.

-Unless the new form is humanoid, all gear merges into the form. Constant bonuses (except AC) remain. Activation items can't be activated. Material components are not accessible while merged into the form.
