Evil vampire cacti that shoot their barbed paralytic spines at you, connected to the base plant by a thin but super-tough fibrous strand, reel you in and drain the moisture from your body!

'Why are there a bunch of animal skeletons clumped around that suspiciously healthy and vibrant looking jumpin' cholla?'

'Also, why are there marks in the dust, as if those animals were dragged to the cactus?'

'And why did all the cactus in the area swivel towards us just now?'

[Cause they are all linked by a network of vibration-sensitive roots, that gives them tremorsense and knowledge of exactly where anyone is standing in their area, so that they can fling spines at them!]

As if anything could make the jumping cholla even more evil than it already is...

I challenge you all to submit the perfect monster. One with awesome flavor, zero crunch errors, and perfect placement of elements in the statblock. Bring it! :p

Ohh, you are speaking about some of my submissions for previous issues! :P

What? And give the editors a free ride? Not a chance.

How many pieces are in now, Tim? I think that with all Set's stuff, you must not worry this time...

I have 46 submissions in my folder now...but, yes, admittedly 16 of those are from Set. Overachiever. ;-)

For perspective, each issue draws from about 45 submissions. Our last few issues started with a pool of 70-90 submissions total. And while that is a somewhat daunting task to read through ALL the submissions, but only select half of them, it does give us a lot of options, and generally makes for a very diverse, but solid, issue.

So, for MY preferences, I would like to get roughly TWICE the submissions that I have article needs for.

The breakdown, thus far:
Class Articles - 12. This includes prestige classes, archetypes, talents, bloodlines, domains/subdomains, etc.
NEED: Have lots of variety...but only one prestige class. LOTS of archetypes. Set contributed a lot to this area, so I'd LIKE to see more people step up for this type of article.

Fluff/Flavor - 5. people and places. 3 Gazetteers, an organization, and a place.
NEED: some more submissions!!

My archetype is becoming a PrC with an organization as the main article. I hope this fits the bill! :)

Has anyone submitted a Bestiary entry for a Sand Elemental? I did a doodle of one earlier in the month, but when it came to stating it out I kept running in circles trying to come up with something that felt unique from the standard earth elemental. I kind of imagine it as this amorphous creature that just keeps reforming itself when you try to damage it and slowly buries you beneath the sands.

I'm thinking something with regeneration, and maybe the engulf ability? It could have the spell like ability shifting sand from the advanced player's guide?

If any of you with more talent, and experience, at designing monsters want to take the idea and run with it please do!

Here's my doodle of it: http://fav.me/d6lt54q

So if anyone wants to write it up the art's done! ;)

Also there seems to be a lack of sand related spells, or am I just not looking in the right books?
Some sand themed spells could be cool, or if some one designed a whole Sand Subdomain that would be great!

Scarab Sages

Could mud spells be re-skinned as sand?
They would have the same flowing, choking effects, but be dry sand, instead of wet.

Today, in Wayfinder class, I learned what a tab-delimited table was and how to make one!

I tossed in some sand spells in one of my submissions, but a Sand sub-domain (for Abadar's Earth Domain, or the relevant Elemental Lord?) would be kind of awesome. Abadar's pretty much the 'god of caravans,' so a sand-themed spell that help a group cross the desert (sandwalking?), or call up a 'selective sandstorm' to hamper bandits but not your guards and pack animals and allies, could be awesome.

Awesome Thomas, much appreciated. I WAS doing it wrong. Next question. will the table be a second document/attachement when I submit it?

Submitted 3 magic items a couple of days ago. One fake genie's lamp that produces an illusory genie and imposes a Will save by any that can see the illusion or be shaken.

One pair of gloves that when clapped together while worn produces a whirlwind as per the whirlwind spell...made of sand and forcing another save on anyone caught by the effect or be blinded for a number of rounds.

One robe that can produce a small oasis for a short period.

My computer died with my documents on it. Ugh, I need to get it fixed before the 30th

Sovereign Court

Good luck Oraude, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Giving the final polish tomorrow and submitting on the game and the ships article.

Sent in Twelve Tents, an inn entry in collaboration with Mike Welham. Hope you like.

Scarab Sages

Gawd, I think I've gone boss-eyed, reading elemental-themed feats, class abilities, schools, bloodlines, and whatever else, just so I can be sure I haven't wasted my time reinventing the wheel.

The only way this will come in under 1500 words, is by describing the class spell list in terms of [descriptors] instead of a long list, and splitting off the familiars as bestiary entries.

Sczarni

Triple checking, the deadline is Sept 30th @ 11:59 Pacific right?

The crossing of your fingers worked. I was able to get my monster free from my harddrive! Just have to rewrite some stuff that was lost and I'm golden!

Scarab Sages

Done it!

I split the article into two halves, one being an alternate class reminiscent of the al-Qadim sha'ir (but different enough in name, flavor and mechanics not to get sued!), and another article describing the Tiny elementals, which act as their familiars, but could also be a general use article, for any GM wanting to use a low CR encounter of elemental smaller than those given in the Bestiary.

Sending them in a few minutes, after a stretch.

Scarab Sages

And sent.

An alternate class seems tougher to write briefly than archetypes and prestige classes, but I'm glad to have taken up the challenge.

It's 11:59 PM as usual, right? Right?

CORRECT. Deadline is fast approaching!

September 30th, at 11:59 PM Pacific time zone.

Don't be late! Really. Don't.

Ships of the Inner Desert submitted.

I'm super-interested in seeing how that one turned out!

Also, how the art, if any, will turn out, to go with it! Will the 'sandships' look like something out of John Carter? Something like Jabba's floating sandship? More like a triple-hulled catamaran or outrigger? Something cooler than I can imagine? Yes to all? Can't wait!

Sovereign Court

Three magical engine types and one sample ship for engine category, 1500 words.

I think it came out pretty good.

And: not really, kinda, sorta, hopefully. ;)

I look forward to read it. My prestige class is a conversion from Al-Qadim too (but different not to be sued) ^^

And I will have one submission in and amongst that influx. ;)

I won't be waiting til the very end. I have to get up early. So my should be around 23:59 Central European Time. Assuming nothing goes wrong.

Hey! I just finally had an idea for this one.

A bit late for that though.

File off the serial numbers, reskin it, and submit it for the Osirian issue, perhaps?

Nah, it's related to alchemy, and a prestige class is too much to throw together right now, especially a nebulous one :)

Sovereign Court

No no, for the Osirian issue, you have at least 6 months. :)

Assuming the subject for #11 is Osirian ... if it is #12, you've got a full year! :)

But is alchemy really that big in osirion?

Sovereign Court

With the leader suffering from some unknown ailment? Probably. Especially since alchemy is the precursor to chemistry as a science, I could see it being of interest.

Besides, my PFS PCs have met several Osirian alchemists ... ;)

Cheapy wrote:

Well, alchemy name is (possibly) derived from Khem, kemet, ancient name for Egypt meaning black earth.

Sahr-ghoran submission sent.

Idea for one submission suddenly morphed into something a bit different...

Sovereign Court

Menawerh Aletajer (The Merchant's Gambit) board game rules and sample play images sent.

*sigh* 400+ words in second monster entry... It will be hard to get it to actual 750...

Given that bestiary entries often use 2-3 entries to get to the 750 word mark, I'm totally OK with a 400 word monster entry....just sayin'.

Why are names so hard! I've had a monster pretty much ready to submit for days, but can't come up with a good name!
