First Steps or MotFF first

Pathfinder Society

So im going to run some PFS for my online group when we have off weeks due to player absence or something else. This is my first time attempting to run Society play and have a couple questions

both first steps and master of the fallen fortress seem to aimed at brand new characters. which do you recommend running first or does it matter?

also if i do one does that prevent them from doing the other due to level?

we're not new to PF just PFS if that matters

First steps. It gives just as much XP , is far less likely to kill the party, gives them prestige points, and is a much better introduction to the pathfinder society as an in game and out of game group.

I figured it would be better for story reasons and im not a fan of killing my pcs, especially since one of them is my gm ;)

Thanks for the suggestion

First Steps, with the provision that you get them done FAST. Parts 2 and 3 aren't going to be legal for Society play soon.

MotFF is nice, but can feel a bit like your players are boarding a railroad to Doomtown.

Silver Crusade

Is there anything suggested to replace parts 2 and 3, now that they have been retired?

Emphasis mine.

All of the Free RPG Day modules (of which MotFF is one) give 1exp and 1pp now, per the Guide.

Nothing yet, though I believe Mike Brock has confirmed that they will release some other intro scenarios or somesuch this season, though I doubt they will be direct replacements of FS2 and FS3.

Liberty's Edge

I will add that if you have a full table of 1st level PCs with a slant towards martial classes, (i.e. 6-7) MotFF is not the death inducing meat grinder that it can be with just 4. I ran it as a first quest for a full group including a Bard, Summoner, Samurai, Fighter, Ranger, Sorcerer, and Cleric and they more or less owned it up until the end, though no players died. It really comes down to whether or not the players want a dungeon crawl or a series of somewhat diverse encounters nested inside of a fetch quest. Since my group wanted to carve lots of things in to tiny pieces we opted for the MotFF instead of Intro 1.

MotFF is a lot like FS2, so you'll still have the dungeon crawl feel. Or, if you've got the time or can break it up into multiple sessions, go with a module like Crypt of the Everflame or Godsmouth Heresy. Both are longish dungeon crawls that award 3xp for only about 2 sessions of play.
