As for a good handle on a release date... Let's see, how about we shoot for the end of May, and if it isn't out by then that's completely all right. ;)

Seriously though, I'm now hesitant to make any promises - mostly I'm waiting on some art, and my own abilities to edit a few pieces and/or delegate such editing effectively.

That certainly sounds fair!

The first time out is a huge learning curve for anything. But bravo for being persistent and creating something new and wonderful.

I don't mind a May release one bit. I will have time to read in May!

Thanks Wolfgang/Marc. Feeling a little sheepish but that's ok! ;)

In other news, I have artists and cartographer on board, plus some cartography of my own to do...

Editing continues...

The Exchange

Not familiar with Midgard (well, the CS anyway) but excited for the fanzine, so I'm dotting this.

I really didn't think I had the talent for mapping. Then OSW, you gave me encouragement to try. Thanks so much! You have one of my maps for my advenuter in Yggdrasil. I hope you find it useful. :^ )

I'd like to continue the lovefest for OSW. This was my first time ever having a submission accepted but unfortunately that learning curve Wolfgang refers to applies to me too. The head wolf in charge has been more than patient with me in this process and I can't say enough great things about the man! Seriously OSW; thank you for the help, guidance and encouragement you've provided as well as the opportunity to be part of this project. I hope I haven't cheesed you off too badly in the process!

Haven't Midgard had a free introductory pdf describing the world? Or was that Obsidian Apocalypse's one?

The Midgard Campaign Setting page includes a preview PDF, found here: Midgard Campaign Setting. The setting is pretty awesome, well worth a look.

@ Mark Hoover - it's all good. I think I'll be rendering your maps as an homage to oldskool "blue maps" from the 1e days...

The Preview is lavishly illustrated, and begins with some top-notch fiction...actually if memory serves there are two fiction pieces that really bring Midgard to life...

Also, a minor note - the Bloodreavers writeup in the Preview is by yours truly, though it might be even more true to say that text is a cobbling by me of various ideas from various posters (myself, Wolfgang Baur, Brian Suskind, Shaun "Bran Ravensong" Nolan, Ben McFarland, Dawson Kriska) on the old Kobold Quarterly forums brainstorming for a wicked huginn* Viking reaver crew... Like a true raven I stole every bit, then mixed it all together and added more blood and guts to make the Bloodreavers...

* In the Midgard Campaign Setting, tengu are called huginn in the north and heru in the south...

News?

Thanks for the bump James!!!

I have some fantastic art, and a great map in. Haven't heard back about the cover - I may have to bug Hugo again, or look for another cover artist.

Still waiting on a few art pieces.

I have three and half weeks to go until my degree is finished, then I can devote some much needed holiday time to finishing this up. So sometime before my 40th birthday - 13h July. Would be great to release for Paizocon with Wayfinder.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

OSW ... glad to hear that you'll soon have time to devote to yourself and your passions (aka finishing up Yggdrasil).

I completely empathize and understand how life can impact on a variety of things that we may want to do ... I for one never even got to write-up and contribute something for the inaugural issue ... but if issue #2 is seriously going to involve magi-tech etc ... I have something in mind.

So, doting once again for future interest. :)

Thanks for the update OSW!!

Published before PaizoCon would be an answer to prayer!

You should have an email from me we just need the list of Cyra's stuff and we'll have that to you ASAP.

Liberty's Edge

Just checking to how this bad boy is coming along :)

Teaser!

Do we need to send out the search parties again?

Liberty's Edge

Wondering that as well! :)

Typical Aussie: goes on a Walkabout and who knows when he'll be back. Last time he was delayed by a firestorm...

Will Yggdrasil be out for PaizoCon?!

No. Let Wayfinder sate your desires at Paizocon.

I will post again when this demm'd flu leaves my mortal frame.

BTW James, I do have a beautiful map for your lil escapade.

Seems I need to chase one artist, and find a new cover artist...or go Traveller/Raging Swan minimalist...

Thanks for the update OSW!

BTW, you might look for some "free" cover art on the internet from the 1800s. Nordic themes were very popular then. You might find an opera poster by Richard Wagner with the Yggdrasil on it you can have for nothing. Worth a look...

Yeah I found a perfect one for Issue 2...

Might just use one of my Cletic/Viking knotwork tree designs...

Hmmm

Beware the ides of July...

Beware receiving confirmation of success in passing your Degree only to find yourself working back in the builder's labourer position you left to study and move beyond manual work. AKA I'm tired and my back hurts. ;)

Sorry for the delay. I'll work hard to finish by end July, but (slightly more) realistically mid-August. I think all the art is in. I may have to chase up one artist or find another for one article.

If I can be of any help OSW please let me know!

Any updates on this bad boy? Still looking like a mid-August release?

Uh, let me think... Was it said mid-August or mid-Summer, because, you know, in the Land-Down-Under seasons are messed up...

Liberty's Edge

Ha! Good point! :)

Well, to be fair, the quote is "mid-August". We still have the months at the same time as "you guys" (Northern Hemispherites) though we are usually some hours ahead.

Look, I'm going to do some serious work this Saturday night in layout, and I should have a clearer update by then. Would love to get it in by Gencon, but a) I don't actually know right now know when that is) and b) it isn't realistic.

A guy's gotta have hope though right? No? Faith? Dreams? ;)

The Exchange Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Hope, faith and dreams, absolutely.

Gen Con is next week, August 14, 15, 16, and 17. Might be quieter as people devour the many, many releases from the show.

Beware the ides of... Oh, nevermind.

This means I have time to work on a submission for the next topic, which I can't get to until I finish the next two rotations ending sometime in the autumn. That's my silver lining.

True enough Isuru. OSW, please don't confuse our impatience with contempt. We're all just very excited about this release! :^ D

Very true!

I imagine at this point the 'zine is just about ready for prime time though. OSW, can you give everyone an update and ETA?

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Hey there OSW! Checking in to see how Yggdrasil is looking? About ready to launch or still on the drawing board?

Thanks!

C'mon Morgan, give us some good news.

Sorry guys, only just saw this...

Update:
* Working on edits for the rather large adventure that Mark Hoover submitted. I have maps for two side treks/mini adventures, but I am having to draw the maps for the large adventure myself.

* Had some extra art arrive, then mysteriously rescinded. There was the possibility of an accompanying article to go with the art but alas, it is not to be.

ETA: Sorry Doomed, I can't really give you one at this stage. Things are hectic here, but I am trying to get this out the door!!!

Apologies to all of those hard working folk that submitted their creative endeavors. I am very sorry this is taking so long…

New Update

I'm *slowly* putting everything into the InDesign file, and have asked one author to clarify a few things/submit a little more for one article.

Still to do: Maps for one adventure.

Let's say mid-October at the latest, but I'm hoping for end of the month. :)

Liberty's Edge

Sorry for the quick, quasi-threadjack, but I couldn't resist such a nice, neat group of Kobold Press and/or Midgard fans all gathered in one place :)

For those that many have missed it, the new Kobold Press Kickstarter just launched today:

Southlands: New Fantasy Options for Pathfinder RPG

Adventure beneath the pitiless sun! New monsters, new magic, and realms inspired by the Arabian Nights, Egypt, & pulp adventure tales!

Lost empires! Cursed tombs! Dinosaurs and djinn! A Pathfinder RPG compatible sourcebook for adventures in the deserts and deep jungle.

Nothing says adventure quite like lost cities, tombs buried deep beneath the desert sands, and pirate ships sailing along a serpent-infested jungle coast. And nothing makes fantasy heroics quite as great as the graves of lost gods, mighty viziers commanding the charge of camel-riding cavalry, and enormous elemental lords trampling entire cities into ruin.

Join Kobold Press in bringing high adventure back to the tabletop, with a full-color book of ancient hieroglyphic magic, powerful genie lords, and monsters that would give Sindbad nightmares—all compatible with Pathfinder Roleplaying Game (but relatively light on rules crunch, so it’s a great sourcebook for any fantasy RPG).

Can't wait. For either Yggdrasil or Southlands. It's a good time to be a Midgard fan.

Sounds good OSW! Looking forward to it!

Liberty's Edge

Hey there OSW - any chance of an update? Are we getting closer?

Thanks!!!

Getting closer? Yes.

Update? Not much. I'm currently sick, and have a 9 hour train ride tomorrow (I may be able to get a little "closer" if I'm not too sick to look at Yggdrasil stuff on iPad) after a seven hour car trip today. And applied for a new job over the weekend. So, been busy.

Sorry. ;)

Hope you feel better OSW. We're all rooting for you.
Let me know if I can help out with proofreading or feedback. A second pair of eyes on a document can really help. :^ )

Liberty's Edge

where do we send a submission? are you full?

I was thinking of doing a town write up. I don't know if that would fit with magic tech. I could do a dark magic write up of an NPC.

Mike

The time for submissions has passed and "full" is an elastic term. I do have a requirement for an NPC for a column that showcases personalities of Midgard - I have a few but would prefer a broader field - I would accept such a submission at this extreme late date..

I will hopefully have a deadline for Issue 2 in the near future but I am yet to finish layout (and a map or two) on #1. Thankls for your interest Mike - all correspondence can be directed to:
