Nothing's been announced. So for now, it's just a dream. :)

I would love to see this book become reality. My gaming group is going through Wrath of the Righteous right now and really enjoying the quick-play mass combat rules. A slightly revised set of rules that added more options and pulled the whole thing just a hair closer to tabletop war gaming in Golarion would be very cool.

Back in 1980 TSR released the World of Greyhawk Folio, which not only provided a massive map of most of the known world overlaid with a hex grid (a must for Armies of Golarion IMO) but it also broke out each nation/principality/etc with its number of troops and, just as importantly, valuable resources that that place controlled. This gave potential conquerors a REASON to build up an army and attack the Kingdom of Celene (or wherever) since it had a resource that a) your kingdom wanted or lacked or b) that you just wanted to deny access to your fellow rulers.

Now imagine this: a big hardcover that had each area of Golarion described in terms of its armies and valuable resources as well as having a big hex overlaid map of Golarion that could, possibly, show per grid, what valuable resources that map grid contained. Now this last part could be done in separate follow up products that gave more geographic detail on each region of Golarion.

This big hardcover would (hopefully) have more expanded rules for mass combat than the current rules-lite/narrative heavy system that we have now. Don't get me wrong, I like the system for those times when mass combat isn't meant to be the bread and butter of the game time, but it would be nice to have the option to run something closer to table top battles between armies when we want to.

Others ideas:

Rules and considerations for using a Character (PC or NPC) to lead a Troop; would they attack separately or simply provide a bonus?

Squads; Not every possible combatant in a battle gathers in big units like a Troop (examples include a small team is elite Rangers or a General and his retinue/bodyguards). A Squad would not necessarily be a new creature type like a Troop, but rather rules/guidelines/suggestions on using small groups of near-identical individuals. This can be as simple as "Just roll all their attacks at once".

New magic; not just more spells, but also uses for spells. Going back to the Squad idea, maybe a small group of Battle-trained wizards working together can use certain spells on a Troop that they would otherwise be immune to.

And guys? Be careful. If this catches on, you could end up with another game on your hands. :)

Sad to see no updates on this. I really want this book to happen.

I want this. I want to buy this. Shut up and take my money.

Take my money too. Make it part of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription please!

As a lover of Dynasty Warriors and Kingdom Under Fire, I want expansion on the troop combat!

This is something we need. Please!!!

Ever since this thread first started, I've wanted to see this book happen, but now that I've actually GMed a couple of troop encounters and played through a few mass combats, I actually *need* it. Both elements are so much fun to use, and I'd love to see Golarion-specific support for them.

GenCon's coming up folks. This will give me a chance to buy some drinks, bend some ears, and/or subtly intimidate Paizo staffers into submission to get this book on the schedule. =-)

I'm going to adapt the Sample troop that was posted in the blog into Hellknights and use them to assault the weakened Fort Rannick today in my Runelords game, I'm really excited to see how it goes. Rather than trying to track 10-20 low level Armigers, I get one massive force to spill into the courtyard!

Apologies for double posting, but I think the best time to push this book is to marry it with the Cheliax Vs. Andoran Adventure Path I wants so much!

This... How did I not notice this before?

Hurry up with this product and take my money!

While using home-brew rules works fine for now, I suck at the sales pitch. Therefore, having some actual rules (since this thread sounds eerily similar to some homebrew stuff I already use) would get my players up off their rumpus and into the annals of history through WAR!

I have seen this in person, it is quite impressive. ;)

Mine too! ... and, ah, also my 5,000 friends that have asked me to post here.

This absolutely terrified my group. They started trying to run, and the party fighter surrendered without even knowing he had almost already won single-handedly.

I also used it for a Grand Melee event, really great way to simulate fighting lots of low levels without the brain dead auto hits on low levels and taking them out in one swing.

Aye, an excellent resource that's already been put to good use in my Way of the Wicked campaign. I still want that Armies of Golarion book, though. :D

I'm much more interested in the Troop unit type, personally.

Sovereign Court

Suggestion for this future book: a 7th level spell that acts like a Mass Breath of Life at the entire company / squadron level, must be cast within one round, to prevent the mass loss of soldiers and bring them all from the brink ('cause you know, losing soldiers permanently causes paperwork for the officers and letters that must be delivered to next of kin, etc.)

Sovereign Court

...and similarly other spells that act at the unit level that replicate:

- false life
- aid
- cure XXX wounds
- raise dead
- reincarnation
- fast healing
- regeneration
- fire shield
- freedom of movement
- longstrider
- water walk
- water breathing
- fly
- alter self
- disguise self
- enlarge person
- reduce person
- true strike

Sovereign Court

hmmm.... I sense a Prestige Class coming up that would be specialized at mass, army-level castings such as these........

Or, if you Go with one of my suggestions listed above, have it possible to mass-cast certain spells by having three or more casters working together.

I think this books would be very cool.

I would also like to add my support for Paizo to publish this sourcebook.

My ideal Armed Forces of Golarion Sourcebook would be outlined as such:
Nations Name-
Senior Commanders- for Example Lord Barak Taldar (Gunslinger 10th) Commanding Officer- 17th Regiment of Musketeers
Army- the army of country x consists of y number of troops and is divided into 4 regiments of Pikemen, 4 regiments of mounted Infanty etc.
Typical Equipment- example-17th Regiment of Musketeers generally carry a musket, a musket rest, a short sword, light hammer and wear a green breastplate for armour. Officers are equipped with the same with the exception they carry 2 pistols in place of the musket and musket rest
Special forces/Elite units- if any
Naval or other units
Key garrisons or castles-
Maybe examples of unique traditions- example. The 17th Regiment of Musketeers wear a black armband to honour their light Company that were massacred by Orcs at the Battle of x

Just my 2 cents....anyone thought of doing this as a kickstarter?

Do you mind posting the final Stat block?

I'm actually real lazy and just reflavored the stat block from the blog. I made the volley crossbows rather than rifles with lowered range and didn't end up using the grenade toss.

Well, folks, you're in luck! Since Charlie Bell's at PaizoCon keeping the Black Rock wiped clean of green blood at Daigle and I's annual event (which I am sadly missing), I'm going to step in here and show you what YOU might be missing if you haven't yet downloaded Wayfinder #11.

Charlie and Damien McGurell's article, "The Imperial Army of Her Infernal Majestrix," shows you a little glimpse of what you might expect from Armies of Golarion should we ever convince the powers-that-be to make it a reality: a smorgasbord of Chelish units and diabolical squads (9 total!) for the UC mass combat rules, and, most exciting for me, TWO NEW TROOP STATBLOCKS: the Chelish Infantry Troop (CR 10) and the Lemure Mob (CR 11).

I know who I'll be hoping gets assigned to freelance on AoG if it happens!

Woot! Exciting, hoping to get more soon!

Awesome! The one thing that kind of jumped out at me was the "devilbound" regiment that consists of level 1 warriors. Don't you need at least 5 hit dice to qualify for that template?

Anyway, I really liked the two "troop" units and I'll probably use the Chelish infantry statblock to represent soldiers in general, changing the alignment to fit the army in question.

What I'd like to see out of this books would be some info on favored tactics of different nations. Cheliax for example seems like they'd big on large numbers of highly disciplined troops performing large tactical maneuvers. The armies of the Linnorm Kings in contrast seem like the type to be more undisciplined but with powerful individuals performing highly effective small unit maneuvers, which would allow for their own passion for glory seeking.

I'd also like to see some special forces type units. What're the Delta Forces of Andoran like, or a Seal Team Six from Cheliax (A summoner, and some clerics, with a couple total bada$$ hellknights?)be

Shameless plug: Wayfinder #11 has an article on the army of Cheliax, including mass combat unit stats and a couple of troops.

Heh, Hodge already plugged it for you and earned a convert!

I would really enjoy getting more of those statblocks for different nations in the future!

This is a book I've long wanted to make, but the timing has never been quite right. I'm sure we'll get around to it eventually, especially if Erik and Wes keep asking me for book suggestions. It's currently not on the schedule, however.

It's good to hear that the idea of an Armies of Golarion book has some support among the purple golem's minions. :)

If they ever did a mass-combat game for Golarion, this would fit in perfectly. Until then, and although I would be very interested in seeing this, it's likely to remain only a wish.

I love the idea. I am very interested in what kinds of soldiers have any of the golarion nations. I would like to see examples (like in monster codex) of of soldiers of diferent nations and information about the strategies that their armies use. Particularly, I think that the most important armies in golarion would be

Taldor: The phalanx, the horse, the navy, the ulfen guard....
Cheliax:
Andoran: Resist both Cheliax and Taldor
Nirmantas and Molthune (on war)
Padishah Empire of Kelesh
Mendev and Lastwall (one of then resist an orc invasion an the other a demon one)

I dont know what other nations have a great regular army
