Liberty's Edge

After spending a few days looking around the wizards community forums I noticed that the threads seem to be rather low-traffic. Low post count and long gaps between posts. The view count on any given thread is usually pretty high compaired to the posts which was another odd thing I noticed.

Essentially I am comparing the Wizards Community forums to the Paizo messageboards. The discrepancy in traffic seems rather large to me and was wondering if anyone had any thought's on this.

Liberty's Edge

I have an account on the Wizards boards, but the back-and-forth over there is nothing like it is here. It's just not an interesting web hangout. Plus the Mods are very into their job.

Just to point out a coincidence my name is also Andrew...

I'm a lurker there because I'm super excited about next... They have a forum but from what I've seen it's not as much of an actual community.

That's the irony--based on eight years of posting here at Paizo, I'm absolutely positive there'll be a more lively discussion of D&D Next here than over at Wizards.

I hope so. I'm too bad at managing multiple online accounts to ever actually post there :P

their forum setup sucks as well. Its annoying to have 800 subforums on this board, but the overall layout is much better..plus I don't olay 4e or next so...

Sovereign Court

Posted there many years ago, stopped when 4e came out. I know many people who also did, that.

Well, things are looking up nowadays, when they will teach us how bad 4th is, in the name of 5dventure!

Huzzah!

I think it pays to be wary about extrapolating one's experience to the general, nonetheless for me the active participation of the patio staff is what made me prefer this forum to the wizards of the coast forums (in addition to the layout/ease of use issue kmal2t identified above).

Initially, I didn't really care what other fans thought about the game. What the people who actually write the material think was fascinating though. After a while, I came to find the community itself to be engaging. The initial attraction though was watching James Jacobs explain why the APs no longer went to twentieth level (or something similar) and being able to ask follow up questions.

Not really. I had the first play test package and it had some kind of whack - fighter runs out of sword - b%@*@!~~ or something. I can't even remember what it was.

What people do on other websites doesn't actually have any bearing on what discussion happens here, and we're not big fans of discussing that sort of thing here, so I'm going to close this up.
