Damaged Arcane Dungeons Flip-Mat

Hi,

I recently returned from vacation, so only just got around to opening the package that was waiting for me. I opened the flip mat to put it away tonight and discovered that it was extremely damaged. Whoever folded it did so incorrectly, resulting in arch shaped creases and wrinkle lines that cannot flatten out.

Order #2580435 for your reference.

If you need pictures, I can supply them. The damage is pretty bad.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The paperstock for Arcane Dungeons is a bit thicker than what we were expecting, and the heavier stock is causing warping in the packaging process for some flip-mats. Laying the map out and placing heavy books on top of the creases should cause the map to flatten-out after a period of time; this has helped some customers with this issue make the flip-mat usable.

Nope.

This one was folded incorrectly. I've been buying (and using) flip mats for a long time. This one was folded in such a way that the action caused serious pressure on the interior folds, nearly ripping the card stock (and marring the surface of the printing).

This is damaged, and not recoverable.

Can you please send a picture to customer.service@paizo.com so we can a better idea of what you are describing?

thanks

Will do.

A series of six photos has been sent so that you can see how it was folded and what the resulting damage was.

A summation of the pictures: instead of the usual "z" folding method that was done with every past flip mat, this was folded letter-style (in a "u" shape). Not only was this done with the initial folds, but also with the secondary folds to get it down to the packaging size. This put pressure on the interior parts of the mat, tearing the laminate in places, and causing the cardstock to buckle in on itself to relieve pressure, creating folds that will not flatten out, no matter what you do.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

PS - I really hope that whoever started folding it this way was corrected and future maps are not being done in this same method.

Your description prompted me to open mine. It was folded just like yours and it is indeed a pretty ugly way to fold those (thick) maps. Some of the wrinkles occur on black background and are very noticeable (to put it mildly) and I agree: those won't flatten out.

Same here. U-shaped folding and also what appears to be the footprint of a large, circular object stamped down on the middle of the map.

I'm trying to flatten it out with the Core Rulebook, Tome of Horrors and Rappan Athuk to see if it is salvageable.

Hi everyone,

For what it's worth, I seem to be having the same "incorrect folding" issue, although I did try the "setting heavy books" on top to flatten it out (as was recommended) ... and while it seems to have helped, I agree that nothing it going to take away the "crescent" shaped divot or depression along the map.

Even though I had asked about this in a thread of my own, I noticed this one by Drogon and wanted to see what kind of response he received (and I noticed that chavamama replied in his as she did in mine, "quoting" the Justin Riddler response). From what Drogon is describing, his map has the exact same problem as what I'm experiencing with mine.

If there is anything that might be done, I know I'd certainly appreciate it.

Oh most awesome customer service: I can only chime in with the same issue. I haven'tdecided yet, if I am going to keep my map subscription - this map isn't too bad since the remaining damage is mostly on 'black space' and I know you hope to change the cardstock issue the map after the next one, but I thought you should know that there are quite a few maps where the damage won't flatten out.

Drogon - Thanks for pointing out the U-fold vs. Z-fold factor. While my map still shows the warping, it's helped a great deal to do their suggested flattening method, and then re-fold as Z-fold.

Hopefully they'll be able to send instructions to the manufacturer to ensure all Z-folding in the future. After looking at my other flip-maps, I strongly suspect that no matter the paper stock, the U-fold would cause this issue...

I hadn't opened my Arcane Dungeon Flip-Mat until I saw this thread and decided to check it.

Mine also has the U-fold issue. It has two ugly creases where it buckled in the folding process, with small mound between them. I'm trying out pressing it now, but I don't have high expectations.

brock, no the other one... wrote:

The end result of the attentions of these worthy tomes is: it's usable, but it isn't pretty.

The 'intentional' folds have pretty much flattened out. The crescent shaped ones needed some work with a granite pestle (used like a mini rolling-pin), but that seems to have flattened them, although they are still visible.

I'm afraid I'm in the same situation.

If it helps, I purchased mine from a retail store in town.

Justin, you sent me an e-mail about the arcane flip mat, and I want to cancel it. In the e-mail you gave me the reference #2582804. I hope that is the number I'm suppose to give you to cancel this. Could you or someone else, please, cancel this for me?

Thanks,

I also have the same issue....I definitely think it is the u-shaped, not z-shaped folding.

You might get their attention more promptly by putting your cancellation request in its own thread. I believe I've read them say before that they work from the bottom up (oldest first), and as long we we're still talking about the U-fold damage issue, this thread keeps getting bumped to the top. Of course it does have Customer Service already active in the thread, but they may not return to this thread regularly unless they have more to say on the issue.

John - I have canceled the item from your sidecart and you can view this change on your My Subscriptions page.

As a general note, it is best if you post your own thread about an issue as we don't always see posts like this when they are piggy-backing on another topic.

We're reviewing the issue with the map.

I see that Arcane Dungeons is currently listed as "Unavailable", and Thieves' Guild (which I'm pretty sure was supposed to be published this month) has been rescheduled for November.

As a customer, I can only assume a serious problem has occurred with the production process. As a subscriber of the Maps line, I'd appreciate a bit more info. Is there anything you can tell us?

(Meanwhile, I'm putting my subscription on hold.)
