Almost TPK in Skull & Shackles, 'failed' main story.

We recently almost TPK'ed in the 3rd book of Skull & Shackles, essentially failing the main questline in the process(or what we assume is the main questline). Our Captain is dead, and our only contact won't deal with anyone else. We have already decided on how we're going to move forward, but I would like to hear what another group might do in this seemingly hopeless situation?


Resurrect the captain?
Impersonate the captain?
Figure out what might persuade this contact to deal with someone else?

(disclaimer: I never played S&S, so I've no idea what I'm talking about)

This really should be raised in the skull and shackles subforum under adventure paths.


The solutions is the same as in any other adventure: You can only ever 'fail' the main quest, if your GM decidees it. ON the other hand, you can only ever succeed if your GM decides so.

Work with your GM. Within the fiction, there's spells that directly allow you to communicate with gods and the like. Have your cleric cast Divination (or pay one, if you doesn't have a cleric) to ask Besmara directly how to get on, and thus allow your GM to give you a few hints on how he/she sees you getting past this problem.

the survivor is now captain, so get those papers amended. Take your clues and with the new recruited crew continue investigating.
