City a "civilized" Kobold would live in.

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I have a character concept of a Kobold Medical examiner. What are some regions that seeing a kobold in your store wouldn't be COMPLETELY out of the ordinary?

Zobeck. Check out midgard.

There are also kobolds in Absalom

why not Kaer Maga?

Bloodport maybe?

Second vote for Kaer Maga.

There's a guild of civilized troll information brokers, so a Kobold medical examiner would be relatively normal.

Thank you for replies. Absalom was my safety choice if I couldn't decide on something else.

I have ideas for a whole criminal procedural cast worth of characters.

Have you considered Katapesh? The city is so ultra-cosmopolitan that even Gnolls can walk around with impunity.

Really any city I would think. It's just the kobold getting to know his neighbors.

Third vote for Kaer Maga.

Also, any city of sufficient size in Andorran.

Quantium, Nex.

I'm going to dispute this. In Andoria, kobolds are the primary "threat" race.

For all Andorian talk about "equality", basic human (or demi-human for that matter) nature will still cause prejudice, if not outright hostility.

A "Civilized" Kobold would be better where kobolds are not common.

they have VERY big families too, a new egg every week... and kobolds reach maturity in 6 months.

It's probably just me but I don't see Kobolds in Kaer Maga except as slaves and bantha fodder.

I see Kaer Maga a a retched hive of scum and villainy where dumb brute force advances more than the curious craftiness and intelligence of, say, a future medical examiner -- and where a physically weak stature would condemn you to a miserable life, despite your intellectual acumen. If a Kobold grew up in Kaer Maga it would be nigh impossible to grow into anything other than a wimpy slave (the expectation forced on him) or a really bad ass fighter (like a boy named Sue who learns to fight). If your concept were more of a Kobold Barbarian or Fighter, yes, Kaer Maga would be a good choice, but, for your concept I'd choose Katapesh.

In Katapesh I could see a Kobold being able to use his curiosity and intellect to advance and have a chance at a medical examiner.

I don'y know, like I said, there is a guild of civilized troll information brokers. They get by fairly well without being scum and villainy.

Considering that some of the most prominent groups in Kaer Maga are golem crafting casters, bloatmages and shady criminal organizations of all sorts, I believe a Kobold might find lots of opportunities where brains > brawn. It's not a "brutal pit fighter" city, it's a "weird outcast" city.

Say, a Kobold who works for troll augurs to ensure that they regenerate properly after each "vision", or as a "maintenance manager" for one of unead brothels.

Sure -- like I said, it's probably just me.

The point I tried to make, though, is that while it would be easier for, say, a troll to be able to be something other than the stereotype, it would be nigh impossible for the Kobold. Kaer Maga seems to me to be a place where Tom, Dick and Harry, when they hear a troll say, "I'm an information broker," everyone agrees, "Why, yes you sure are." But if a little Kobold says "I'm a medical examiner," everyone would tell him to go get his shine box and slap him around for good measure.

That's how I see Kaer Maga.

For a very interesting take on a subrace of kobolds, check out Super Genius Presents—Races Revised: The Kobold Kings.

I would see a sorcerer kobold with a draconic bloodline fitting into Kaer Maga.

Medical Examiner is a skillset that could come with/from multiple classes. Alchemist might be likely though, isn't there a vivisectionist archetype? If a kobold had the means to keep safe and off the streets in Kaer Maga until he got a few levels under his belt, I could see a kobold alchemist fitting in.

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought Kaer Maga.

It depends some on the neighborhood, but the city has gotten used to nagas and trolls, along with grudgingly accepting an undead quarter. Kobolds wouldn't raise too many eyebrows.

I don't see Kaer Maga as violent as a some people are saying. In City of Strangers, it seems more like you're fine as long as you stay on the local power group's good side.

For practicing medicine, Chiurgeon is probably a better fit. Vivisectionist is a great build, but more on the razor crazy side of medicine.

Cheers!

Actually, there are kobolds under Absalom. They don't really move around out in the open among the humans on the surface.

In one PFS scenario I know of that involves kobolds in Absalom, the most civilized member of the kobold tribe magically disguises herself as a halfling when she mingles among the humans and other "civilized" races. And even then, she only does it at night and tries to avoid much interaction with others, for fear that they'll see through her disguise.

I thought I might resurrect this thread and ask the question again, only a bit different. I want to start a detective agency staffed mostly by Kobolds. They would have perhaps a Half-Orc to supply some muscle. So far we have a name:

The No. 1 Kobald Detective Agency

(With apologies to Alexander McCall Smith)

But where to set it? There are good suggections in this thread - I'm leaning towards Zobeck because of its extensive Kobald quarter.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to the sort of work the Agency could do. Some examples:

Recovering stolen possessions
Digging up dirt on political opponents
Missing person cases involving the undercity
Finding things in the undercity
etc

Thanks

Quantium, capital city of Nex. That place holds just about everything that walks, slithers and swims upon the surface of Golarion.

+1 to Kaer Maga.

Also, River Kingdoms.

The Chiurgeon and Vivisectionist archetypes are compatible, I believe.

Kaer Maga

Also anywhere in Katapesh, where people don't care what you are, what colour your skin is, what's between your legs, or who your parents were or anything but the size of your coinpurse.
