Possibly stupid question concerning running

Rules Questions

Hi!

I was wandering... is there some equivalent action to running using other types of movement, i.e. flying / swimming? In other words, can a creature use a full-round action to move more than double its movement rate using some form of movement other than walking?

Please assume that the creature has a listed speed in this form of movement.

Thanks in advance for your insight!

PRD: Swim wrote:
Special: A creature with a swim speed can move through water at its indicated speed without making Swim checks. It gains a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform a special action or avoid a hazard. The creature can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered when swimming. Such a creature can use the run action while swimming, provided that it swims in a straight line.

See the last sentence.

A creature with a climb speed has a +8 racial bonus on all Climb checks. The creature must make a Climb check to climb any wall or slope with a DC higher than 0, but it can always choose to take 10, even if rushed or threatened while climbing. If a creature with a climb speed chooses an accelerated climb (see above), it moves at double its climb speed (or at its land speed, whichever is slower) and makes a single Climb check at a –5 penalty. Such a creature retains its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) while climbing, and opponents get no special bonus to their attacks against it. It cannot, however, use the run action while climbing.

See the last sentence.

With regard to fly, there's no mention of running in the skill, but it's worth noting that the fly spell explicitly states that the subject cannot run. This has been used to argue that normally a fly speed does grant the ability to run, but could also be argued to be simply reenforcing the inability.

3.5's rules for movement modes (for whatever reason these weren't ported over to PF other than via their respective skills, meaning it's pretty difficult to determine what it actually means to have a burrow speed in PF), used the same language for running with a fly speed as PF does for running with a swim speed.

It's worth noting that the 3.5 fly spell had the exact same limitation as the PF fly spell, and due to the fly speed rule mentioned above, in that rules system it was solely a limitation of the spell.

So: I certainly allow the run action for creatures with a fly speed, unless that fly speed is derived from the fly spell or a fly SLA (as is the case for the ogre mage).

Hmmm... I never thought of checking the relevant skills!

Thanks a lot people!
