That makes sense. I'd kind of assumed they'd be connected, due to the name, but they do seem to diverse to be one group.

Wannabe Demon Lord wrote:

Let's talk about something that has yet to be touched upon in the game, the Malaysian Demons/Ghosts/Spirits/Who knows, the Hantu. Though it translates as "ghost" I feel this word is a bit like "Yokai" in that it covers a vast array of supernatural entities, some clearly human undead, some more like Christian demons, and many others much, much weirder than anything else we've seen. I would tentatively call them a Native Outsider group, with varied alignments across the spectrum of evil and neutral (Most don't seem particularly good.) Anyways, there are a crap ton of types, and the ones I know about include:

Hantu Air: A shapeshifting, disease causing, aquatic demon. Usually looks like a dead log.
Hantu Anak Gua Batu: Cave dwelling spirit, resembles a floating stalagtite like thing with glowing red eyes.
Hantu Apu: A ghost that disguises itself as a mat.
Hantu Bajang: Malevolent civet like ghost. Lures people by making sounds like a crying infant.
Hantu Balung Bidai: Evil aquatic creature, looks like a flat piece of cloth with a mouth on each corner.
Hantu Bandan: Waterfall spirit with a cauldron like head, in which it traps other spirits.
Hantu Bangkit: Red eyed, graveyard dwelling undead creature.
Hantu Beruk: Monkey spirit that possesses ritual dancers.
Hantu Belian: Winged tiger spirit, serves as a familiar.
Hantu Batu: Many armed, Xorn-like rock throwing spirit.
Hantu Bungkus: Living cloth monster, strangles people to death.
Hantu Daguk: Malevolent living mist monster, believed to be the spirit of a murdered man.
Hantu Buta: Creature that causes blindness, a ghoul with grotesquely huge eyes.
Hantu Cika: Disease causing, inflatable, balloon like ghost.
Hantu Bisa: Grotesque, toxic ghost said to bring terminal disease.
Hantu Tinggi: A towering ghost, capable of making people crane their neck to look at it's full self till it breaks.
Hantu Denai; Hideous, beastlike, hunting spirit.
Hantu Gunung: Avalanche causing mountain ghost
Hantu Hutan: Ancient, entlike jungle...

I've seen these a couple of times during my adventures on google and in books, but never found anything even remotely interesting with them. And of course the one that I really like from your list is a true mystery (the garbage one)and doesn't have much info available.

Some are too bizarre, others are too much like other creatures and others have so many different forms that I got lost in them, I like creatures to have a solid form, not 10 or more forms.

FOR EXAMPLE

Quote:
Hantu Gunung, are spirits that roamed the mountains. Just like the Hantu Hutan, they belong to the group of ancient ghosts that inhabits the earth before the coming of men. Powerful, Hantu Gunung are capable of causing landslides, avalanche and earthquakes when angered. They are the protector of the mountain realm. Therefore, climbers must be vigilant when hiking mountains. Hantu Gunung often take form of fog/mists, attempting to discourage hikers from climber further. Sometimes, they shapeshift into a beautiful woman, singing on the mountain peek, inticing and confusing climbers. There are often reports by hikers of voices, music and singing during expeditions.

Thanks for the list anyway, i'm doing some research about them right now, so maybe I learn more about them and come to like some of them.

Monkey spirit that possesses ritual dancers.

Could be interesting.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hantu Jerangkung

This is just a skeleton in the myth, which is pretty ordinary and nothing really special..

But what about a creature that possesses another creatures skeleton?

So the flesh, mind and soul are still possessed by the original creature but the Hantu Jerangkung possess the skeleton of the creature, giving insane pain to the creature they possess as they break its bones from the inside out and only spells can drive it out.

It could cause the pain in the bones and move the body around ,while the mind of the creature can still see where it's going the Jerangkung controlls the movement of the limbs.

When the Jerangkung kills it victims (mostly by unwanted suicide) it can burst free from the flesh as skeleton, and possess the next victim.

This is a pretty silly idea, but maybe it can be turned into something cool and working.

I hope B5 has a lot more elementals, the last two had very little. It would be nice to see more types such as mineral/crystal, ash, dust, positive energy, negative energy, time, radiance, steam, vacuum, nature, wood, metal, etc.

I would like to see an ooze that only feeds on water and other liquids. Can drain moisture from living things and causes more damage to creatures made of liquid like water elementals.

Vatnagedda or Poisonous Pike

These are awesome! Extremely poisonous fish monsters (I prefer them to be Pike or Gar, not the fish in the artwork) that hate sunlight and which poison is deadly to GHOSTS and SPIRITS

How awesome is that?

The poison is so horrid that it eats it's way through anything and can burn its way through anything.

But just click the link and read it yourself, its an awesome beasty!

Baxbakwalanuxsiwae

I'm just gonna put this here. :)

Well it must be an aberration, otherwise I would be very disappointed.

I like creatures with no physical form. They are not invisible. They just simply have no physical aspect to their existence. That would mess with people... :D

Physically not there, you mean like a cheesy effect from the original Star Trek series, I could go for that. Maybe the creature from Forbidden Planet movie since it was an invisible being of mental force.

Kalindlara, gesundheit;)

Does pathfinder already have a race like the Monster Manual 3 Visilights?

Quote:

Visilights equate beauty with perfection. On their native

plane of Mechanus, they strive to absorb beauty, thus
bringing themselves closer to perfection, while simultaneously
eradicating ugliness. In these pursuits, they are both
insatiable and merciless.

A creature that absorbs beauty and destroys ugliness is awesome.

That would be great to have in PFS. Take on all those who dumped Charisma because they wanted 20 STR and didn't think they'd need their CHA for anything.

I agree.

And while the Visilights are copyright, I think the Japanese Katsura-Otoko can take their place as beauty-drinkers and ugly-haters.

Common, they even have pink hairs and are the most beautiful of men. Suits them like a glove.

Katsura-Otoko (Fae/Nymph/Shapeshifter)(Medium) - These male nymphs only appear during the night. These arrogant creatures are extreme narcissists and they strive to absorb beauty, thus bringing themselves closer to perfection, while simultaneously eradicating ugliness. In these pursuits, they are both insatiable and merciless. They kidnap the most beautiful creatures to their moon-castles, nobody knows what happens to these victims. They have a strong connection with moons. (Japanese)

If we're talking MM3 creatures, I'm really fond of the Battlebriar and Dracotaur.

If possible, Purple Duck Games is going to try do this up for their 2nd bestiary, and release the individual version on their patreon.

I would like to see moon rabbits.

Do you mean the real Visilight or the Katsura-Otoko?

Both are awesome, so i'm curious to see that.

I wonder if they've already decided on what they'll put in the next Bestiary...

It's possible, there is enough monsters for like 12 hardcover bestiaries on this wish list.

From the 3.5 D&D manuals I still like to see the following creatures being turned into a pathfinder version, mostly the abilities of the creatures are awesome, so the name and appearance can shift.

Monster Manual 1

- Ravid (The ability to animate objects and items)
- Digester (An ooze-eating creature that uses the oozes in its attacks to turn other creatures into slime.
- Arrowhawk (just because it looks cool and is a living arrow)

Monster Manual 2

- Crimson Death (Since Tome Of Horrors 4 also used them, I guess they are open to the public? This is one of my favorite monsters of D&D, much better than the Vampiric Mist in my opinion.)
- Darktentacles (I don’t know, I just love lake-octopuses and this is much like the monster from the LOTR the first movie that guards the mine. Migas from African Mythology could replace this creature but keep the same apperearance.)
- Abyssal Maw (An awesome demon that is more maw than body, the Maltese Kaw Kaw could do.)
- Jovoc (I’m only after the awesome aura of this creatures, their AURA OF RETRIBUTION is just awesome on many levels.)
- Advespa (Some wasp-like demon/devil/daemon would be beyond cool, wasps never get the attention they deserve in games!)
- Effigy (A fire creature that possesses other creatures and burns its way out of them in a violent progress = awesome, could be a fire mythology creature like the Enenra or Rarog (in evil phoenix form)
- Ethereal Slayer (only because it’s an original mantis monster, and it looks awesome!)
- Famine Spirit (A hungry fat corpse with strange abilities, yes please!)
- Fiendwurm (It’s ability to belch up demons form the portal in its huge wormy body! I gave this ability to the Finnish Ajatar/Aiatar as it suits the demonic snake.)
- Gravecrawler (Only its Calcifying Aura is awesome, the rest of the creature is a waste.)
- Gravorg (This creature is so mysterious, the artwork is beyond ugly and it raises more questions than it gives answers. I really like its gravity abilities.)
- Julajimus (It’s ability to transform into a cute animal to trick its prey in letting it in! Nekomata is the perfect candidate for this ability.)
- Nightmare Beast (The awesome ability to have a nightmare aura that gives close sleeping creatures terrible nightmares that exhaust them is just too good to be true, this can be replaced by any dream haunter from mythology or your own imagination.)
- Thri-Kreen (Mantis-folk? Yes please! But much cooler than the rather simple Thri-Kreen, never liked that name, Paizo can do it better I’m sure.)

I also love the Marrashi, but Leukodaemon is cooler and a good replacer.

Monster Manual 3

- Arcane Ooze (A ooze that feeds on magic, yes that is original I guess.)
- Astral Stalker (This is just such an awesome creature, bummer it isn’t open game, one of Wizards of the Coasts best creatures, the Laestrygone from Greek Myth could look like them.)
- BroodKeeper (A giant vermin type creature that releases huge swarms of flesh eating insects from under its wings, yes please!)
- Cadaver Collector (Always handy to have around for any starting Necromancer.)
- Dracotaur (Ideal appearance for the Greek Kampe)
- Drowned (I only like the drowning aura, good for the Haugbui, a stronger variety of Draugr.)
- Death Giant (I like a creature that has the spirits of its victims floating around himself.)
- Glaistig (It’s from mythology, so use it without problems)
- Web Golem (A golem for some spider race, maybe created by Ettercaps, Bebilith, Driders or Jorogumo, perfect as lower-level golem.)
- Ironclad Mauler (Bears in armor are just sexy! I don’t know why, they are always cool in games and movies.)
- Mindshredder (A creature that rapidly evolves into more horrid forms by feeding on the thoughts of another creature is pretty cool.)
- Lifeleech Otyugh (Stupid creature, but awesome aura, it is healed if other creatures use healing magics, it absorbs the healing spells, turning healing spells less useful.)
- Phoerlarch (Phoenix folk! How awesome is that? Rarog anyone?)
- Plague Spewer (A giant that spits out swarms of insects or rats or whatever, it would do for me.)
- Ragewalker (Also one of my favorites and I picture the Scottish Ly Erg to look like this! This forever-in-armor dressed elf-like fey are the embodiment of rage and they are surrounded by flying weapons.)
- Skindancer (STEAL that ability please! Talking about their Adaptive Energy Resistance and Reactive Skin abilities! Could work for the African Ga-Gorib, Australian Nargun or Lumberjack Hidebehind.)
- Splinterwaif (This evil dryad was believed by many to come from mythology, it’s still a mystery to me and still hope to find it in some old Mythology from Germany book, but the concept of evil dryad always inspired me, they are better off evil than good.)
- Vermin Lord (see my post above, give it to the philippino Mambabarang hag.)
- Visilight (As above, I just LOVE vain, charisma-stealing creatures, give it to the Japanese Katsura-Otoko)

Zezir look awesome as fiery raptors, but no thanks.

Monster Manual 4

- Deathdrinker Demon (It’s ability to heal itself as it slays another creature is still unknown to me in pathfinder.)
- Whisper Demon (A daemon that talks you into suicide would be awesome, could also be spiritual undead.)
- Lodestone Marauder (Awesome creatures with magnetic abilities, and they don’t look like robots or science-fiction monsters, this one is perfect)
- Lunar Ravager (They come from the moon on nights with full moons to ravage the earth and kill/eat everyone, could be altered and given to the Katsura-Otoko.)
- Quanlos (I love their mind-control poison, could be given to the mythological SCITALIS.)
- Skiurid (Evil squirrels? Yes please!)

OMG “sees the dragonspawn again on the next page” WHY I had to see those horrid creations again, they are by far the worst creatures of all time. “almost rips pages from the book and continues”

- Tomb Spider (I love their ability to create web-mummies)

Monster Manual 5

- Draudnu (Let me phrase this from the book itself: When a draudnu comes within 60 feet of a creature, that creature must succeed blabla on a will save or believe that something is growing INSIDE it, becoming sickened! how awesome is that?!? I could see some demon/devil/daemon or protean have this awesome ability.
- Solamith (A creature that uses its own flesh as explosive throwing bombs is awesome in my book.)
- Frostwind Virago (I was in love with the art back then, so just wanted to have mentioned her)
- Merchurion (A folk created from quicksilver/mercury, yes please.)
- Shardsoul Slayer (I liked its ability to turn other creatures insane and crazy with its aura or touch, the creature itself looks strange.)
- Wild Hunt (From mythology, so yes.)

Fiend Folio

- Darkweaver (Only it’s abilities, some shadow spider creature would be awesome, maybe a Nightshade breed.)
- Maurezhi (Does pathfinder already has a creature that can eat corpses and shapeshift itself into the forms it eats?)
- Skulvyn (It’s aura of slow is awesome for the Persian Bushyasta.)
- Hullathoin (The perfect example of how to create a cool non-humanoid undead monster, so awesome looking.)
- Kuldurath (I’m only after the Share Defenses ability of this rather dull creature.)
- Skybleeder (I’m only after the Acid Rain ability, the rest is too chaotic looking.)
- Steel Predator (Another one of my favorites from D&D, too bad you can’t just copy it, it’s amazing and awesome.)
- Cranium Rats (The more are in the swarm, the smarter they become, that is an awesome ability to have around.)
- Ulgurstasta (Their Swallow + Necromantic Acid ability could be given to the AWD Goggie from English mythology, which is a giant caterpillar monster, instead of undead the AWD Goggie creates smaller copies of itself from its victims, maggot-like horrors that it spits out, all with the faces of their former self.)

Monsters of Faerun
- Beast of Malar (A creature that adapts to the environment so hunting will be easier for it, following flyers in winged forms, swimmers in aquatic-adapted form and speedy creatures in speedy forms, turning into a powerful bear-like monster if facing with powerhouses.)
- Deepspawn (My ultimate favorite D&D creatures, they spawn small armies of everything they eat. So they eat a goblin, they breed an entire army of Goblins to fight for it, so awesome! Echidna from mythology could work like this.)
- Deep Dragon/Purple Dragon (This is my favorite D&D dragon, a dragon of the underdark. Nidhogg could work for this.)
- Ghaunadan (I was obsessed with these intelligent shapeshifting oozes when I was younger, the Mezzlan didn’t do much for me though, could be the artwork.)
- Meazel (I like a race that has a skin disease that is very contagious.)
- Black Unicorn (But use the Persian Shadhavar instead as evil unicorn.)
- Wemic (Urmahlullu are your friends)

Others from other lesser books:

- Grey Jester (A evil Jester fey that absorbs positive energy and leaves behind a negative husk.)
- Deadly Dancer (A creature without hands and feet but with Sharp blades instead, they dance into battle)
- Angel of Decay (Some evil undead angel that spreads decay, sounds awesome and is awesome.)
- Blood Amniote (Blood Golems are good and all, but these are the real bloody deal.)
- Boneyard (The best creature from the Libris Mortis book, a bone-collective elemental-like creature that absorbs bones into its mass and shifts its forms depending on which bones it has, often forming dragons, serpents and armies of skeletons out of their mass.)
- Cinderspawn + All other undead elementals (I like my elementals undead, Chindi could be the undead air elemental, Enenra the undead fire elemental and obambo or Dorotabo the undead earth elemental, undead water elemental could be the living lake Hinqumemen or Engulfer.)
- Skin Kite (The living skin skinned from another creature, that is awesome for kytons I guess.)
- Skirr (Just because it’s a non humanoid mummy and undead, the picture is so awesome.)
- Tomb Mote (I like negative earth elementals, and these tiny ones could work as land bound swarm of piranha’s bursting from a graves earth.)
- Visage (Some master illusionist would be cool)
- Qorrashi (Some ice-based genie would be sweet and I love Ice creatures.)
- Winterspawn (only because it can create weapons from ice like Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat lol)
- Crawling Apocalypse (Another awesome mummy-like creature, this time a sand Kraken that is much like a mummy, awesome design!)
- Cursed Cold One (I like the curse, during the day it lives as the ice will be melted, during the night it’s nothing but a frozen undead in a giant ice cube.)
- Desert Devil/Araton (I always pictured them like Tasmanian Devil cartoon, a devil that becomes a living whirlwind of sand.)
- Porcupine Cactus (Be careful or they explode! Awesome idea, but strange plant creatures.)
- Saguaro Sentinel (A treant cactus, that is awesome.)
- Sand Hunter (I like their pack mind ability.)
- Hammerclaw (The monstrous version of the Pistol Shrimp)
- Styx Dragon (Would be awesome to have some dragons swimming in the river styx.)
- Chaos Dragon (An awesome dragon that combines all the chromatic dragons in one creature, its breath weapon is random.)
- Phane (The time-controlling power-houses are free for the catch, really hope to see them eventually!)
- Goristro (When I say Erchitu and Arzshenk, do you know what I mean? They look much cooler than these demonic minotaurs as well.)
- Armanite (I really dislike centaurs, so boring, but in demonic forms they really are much better and better suited as enemies.)

Either or a combo of the two. Just know that they're going to work with what they've got.

That is a nice list. I would like almost everything on there cloned, but there are loads more D&D 3.x monsters I would like cloned as well. Still, I don't see that as particularly likely to happen. I could post an enormous list though, and I will if anyone wants to see it.

Now that I think about it.

My favorite monster in LOTR is the Watcher in the Water, a octopus-like creature hiding in a lake, grabbing the heroes when they enter a mine.

If you forgot the scene, click here to see it on youtube.

Of course that creature is also under copyright protection, but there is a myth that closely resembles it in some of its versions.

Enter the African Migas, a flat creature with many tentacles that can hide in any type of water, most often shallow lakes and rivers, as it spots prey its tentacles will rip it to pieces in a slash of blood and gore.

A lake-type octopus creatures with more than 20 (maybe even 100) tentacles is just too cool!

And because the description of the migas is vague at best, its not a huge jump.

Just So long as Myth Lord is an alien or robot, with lasers! :-D

Removed a couple of unnecessarily fighty posts. Let's keep this thread positive, thank you!

Hellequin from french myths.

I would like them as demonic/devil jesters that turns other demons angry and more powerful with it's chaotic dances and chants.

I actually have nothing against alien-type monsters, as long as they don't have mobile phones, computers or high tech lasers on them they are fine with me, such as Aboleth, Greys and many more. Predator would be too much because of the tech it wears, but something less SF-ish that looks like Predator would be awesome.

There should be a specific, delusional, unforgivably nerdy quasit with delusions that he will one day become the most powerful demon of all time, and plans to use an army of monsters that exists only in the form of ridiculously long, meticulously maintained lists on his magitech computer. He lives with his mother, and has a succubus consort that bosses him around and dominates every stupid tiny detail of his life despite the handicap of being completely imaginary, and has a pet fiendish dire badger that claims to be his brother.

Yes, then my abilities would be.

Annoying Aura - Every living, elemental and even undead who meets me will be annoyed to death, giving them boosts to attack me, but because of their anger they lose the ability to hit me.

Robot Destroying Touch - Every robot I touch will crumble into spare parts.

Extreme Narcissism - Only cares about himself and would never care to help its teammates/monsters, has spells that only boosts himself, when low on health, Myth Lord will absorb/steal health from allies to survive.

Supreme Creativity - While not helping the creature, Myth Lord can change a creatures abilities and look to make it more suitable for himself.

Mythology Knowledge - Has a huge advantage against mythological creatures as he knows all their weaknesses and fluff.

Weakness VS Hippogriff and Hupia - The only two mythology creatures I don't like have a huge advantage over me however, as they bore me to death.

Well I would have to be a dragon with a force based breath weapon, immunity to ability damage/drain, death effects, energy drain, and mind-affecting effects. Also with an ability that grants natural attacks a disruption like ability that works, not just against undead, but also evil outsiders, psychopomps, and anything Myth Lord creates or modifies.

I think you would make a great Aeon Dragon.

Is the NeverEnding Story still copyrighted because I would love to see a luck dragon, racing snail, rockbiter, and whatever that giant wolf was supposed to be.

Mushveli

Here's another new monster from A Book of Creatures. Haven't made up my mind whether I'd rather it be a giant rat whale or an evil dire chimaera. (The real world oddball fish, not the hybrid monster.)

A ratfish?! Though I like the idea of a rabbitfish.

I'd like a monstrous Narwhal monster which drill-attacks ships.

And a whale monster covered in sharp shells.

Ichthyocentaurs could be cool...

Variations of Sidhe, like Fear Dearg and Gancanagh.

Blemmyes and Abarimons if you want to get weird.

And Slake-Moths if Mister Mieville is willing...

Ok...

NOW i've seen it all in the world of mythology.

Meet the Japanese Nodeppo a evil flying squirrel monster that attacks peoples faces and which spits (read spits) out swarms (or single) of bats at it's enemies.

How awesome, bizarre, stupid, lovely, extreme and cool is that?!?

Damn! Why Japanese monsters are so freaking awesome and bizarre, they taking the show in my own RPG and I hope Bestiary 5,6 and 7 are teeming with them!

I had no idea that the Harlequin character was originally invented as a demon. I'd assumed "devil clowns" were a more modern thing, or they had originated with Alichino.

Well, i'm very happy they aint as Hellequin is awesome.
