I really would love to see something basilisk-like for the Gila Monster, I love that yellow/black coloration of it! Maybe a poison-gaze basilisk type of some sort with bacteria in its bite.

Chamois folk would be sweet, satyr-like creatures with ultimate balance abilities, they live in the most impossible-to reach mountains and their balance is legendary.

There are already many electric eel monsters gladly.

Some Dire or Magical version of the Babiroesa would be awesome, those horns are a must.

And the things you can do with that scary looking Aye Aye, that freaky finger! They would be cool for the homeland of the fey as some giant versions with strange magical abilities in their long fingers.

Those all sound cool. I'll see what I can whip up in terms of mythical creatures that fit those descriptions.

Murray a long neck amphibious minotaur? that sounds very different.

I'd really like to see some variant liches or information on expanding the base lich template along the same vein as what the 3.0 Monster Conpendium: Monsters of Faerun did.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well since we have variant vampire templates some alternate types of liches would be interesting. I still want a ghost animal template giving the animal ghost touch for it's natural attacks plus it should gain a +6(or better) cha bonus and use cha for str.

Dark Archive

Compressed flame golem(referring to 3.5 DMG which says the continents of the elemental plane of fire are made sheets of compressed flame) Mythic Graveknights and clockwork archers

gila monster animal companion/familiar options. Maybe even a dire gila monster. Would fit my setting.

Also horned lizards that shoot blood from their eyes. I actually made a playable race of lizardfolk in my setting that's alternate racial trait is that it can shoot blood.

Clockwork Archers would be cool.

Some more animal based player races such as rabbit, turtle, fish, humming bird(small size) and salamander/newt.

Gila monsters are cool so you got my vote Odraude.

Odraude what are racial stats/abilities for your playable lizard race?

I kept it as close to the original as I could, removing the claw attacks and lowering the natural armor. I also gave them a weapon familiarity that I felt matched them in my setting as hunters.

  • +2 Strength +2 Constitution; -2 Intelligence: Lizardfolk are a strong and hardy people, but their reptilian minds are slower to process things.
  • Medium: Lizardfolk are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Reptilian: Lizardfolk are humanoids with the reptilian subtype
  • Normal Speed: Lizardfolk have a base speed of 30 feet. In addition, lizardfolk have a swim speed of 30 feet and gain the +8 racial bonus on Swim checks that a swim speed grants.
  • Acrobatic: Lizardfolk gain a +2 racial bonus to Acrobatics checks.
  • Bite: Lizardfolk have sharp teeth, granting them a bite attack that deals 1d3 points of damage.
  • Natural Armor: A lizardfolk's hide is tough, granting it a +1 natural armor bonus.
  • Hold Breath (Ex): Lizardfolk can hold their breath for a number of rounds equal to four times their Constitution score before risking drowning or suffocating.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Lizardfolk are proficient with bolas and tridents.
  • Languages: Lizardfolk begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Lizardfolk with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Abyssal, Aklo, Gnome, Sylvan, and Terran

Vampire doves, carnivorous rabbit swarms, undead skull-cracking brain-eating squirrels, and evil mind-controlling lemmings that make you jump off the cliff.

I'll post some more tomorrow. Any thoughts on what culture/region?

Going through the master list, we have a whopping two entries for India, so that gets my vote. Even Australia is kicking its butt.

Probably do an update to the master list in a week or two, when things slow down a bit in my life.

I'll vote greek-leftover fun demon!

India needs some love.

Araxiss, can you be more clear on what your asking.

The Each-uisge would be cool because I can't stand the current form of Kelpie, ugly and not really what I picture a Kelpie to be.

I like the Each-uisge to be a green-water horse type of creature, non-humanoid. Much like how the kelpie is mostly pictured in artwork.

Maybe something like This or This one

The Concordance RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Good gawds, almost 1500 posts..

one monster i would love to see is Scylla, from the Odyssey.

But then again, some the iconic one of kind monsters from Greek mythology would be fun.

Argus
Calydonian Boar
Caucasian Eagle
Centaurs Arcadian
Centaurs Thessalian
Cerberus (i am sure he has been done in various forms)
Cerynitian Deer
Colchian Dragon
Cretan Bull
Crommyon Sow
Ethiopian Sea Monster
Gegenees
Hesperian Dragon
Ismenian Dragon
Kharybdis
Laelaps
Marathonian Bull
Nemean Lion
Pygmies
Python
Scylla
Stymaphalian Birds
Talus
Teumessian Fox
Trojan Sea Monster
Typhoeus

Scylla and Charybdis are in Bestiary 2.
Stymphalidies is in the Bestiary 3
Argus is in Bestiary 4.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The problem with the Calydonian Boar, Erymanthian Boar, Cretan Bull, Teumessian Fox, Nemean Lion and the Cerynitian Deer is their land/city-based name.

Teumessian Fox could become Quicksilver Fox or Silver Fox, the Calydonian Boar is just the Dire Boar, Erymanthian Boar could be some Frost Boar variant because it was haunting a frozen area, Cretan Bull is pretty much the Hadhayosh but a younger version maybe.

Nemean Lion is pretty much replaced by the Aurumvorax, but if it needed another name I didn't really know what to give it... Aurumleo? Golden Lion? Toughhide Lion? Stoneskin lion? Lol all horrible.

Cerynitian Deer, hmmm White Deer, Golden Hind, Hinde maybe?

Or just like the Stymphalian Bird got renamed into Stymphalidies these creatures could go the same road, then you would get something like: Calydonadies - Teumessianis - Erymanthia - Cretian - Cerynitidies - Nemea

But I think that only suits the Stymphalidies, those names sound horrible.

Also you forgot the best Greek monsters that aren't used yet... The Antaeus and the Empusa!!

Carnivorous sheep....

Don't they have a man eating animal template now?

Dragon78 wrote:

Yep, that's the Man-Eating Animal Template. Basically, the animal drinks an elixir named the Blood of Baphomet and is stunned for 1 round. If it fails a Will save, it becomes a Man-Eating Animal.

Then again, just like ANY monster/template published in APs, it could be added in B5.

Wait until you get to the Tasmanian Devil... No, I'm not talking about Taz here, but the real deal.

The animal itself could be nice to have as a creature, but good luck finding a replacement for the name.

India sounds like a good choice. I'll do classical remnants next.
I'm also in the process of researching specific Rakshasas and Asuras from mythology, so I'll add some of them later.

Asrapa- Blood sucking witch creatures that serve Kali
Asurakumara- Underworld Asuras that cause storms
Betikhan- Humanoid goats
Brahmaparush- Intestine eating Raksasha race
Buru- Giant croc/fish hybrid swamp monster
Chedipe- Female vampire that sucks blood through men's toes
Churel- Hideous female vampiric Rakshasa with backwards feet
Daitya- Race of Asura giants
Dakini- Lion headed vampiric female demons
Danava- Race of undersea Asuras
Dasyus- Primeval dwarf Asuras
Gana- Servents of Ganesha, these could be our elephant folk.
Geyal- Vampiric female Rakshasas, considered most dangerous type
Guhyaka- Cave giants that guard treasure
Jigarkhwar- Liver eating Raksashas with paralyzing gaze
Jurua- Sea spirits capable of turning invisible, attack with invisible spears
Kalakeya- Asura race, live undersea
Keshi- Evil horse monster slain by Vishnu
Kirata- Evil tiger man race
Loha Mukha- Iron headed giants
Mada- Giant Asura beast, capable of changing size and consuming any material
Masan- Black disease demon, made of ash
Nivatakavachas- Undersea Asuras that make weapons, like cyclops do
Pey- Shaggy haired vampiric cannibals, somewhat wendigo like
Pishacha-Cannibal disease demons, dark skin, red eyes, and many superpowers
Sharameyas- Four eyed Hell Hounds
Yaksha- Mountain spirits, small but incredible strength

I'm not done with my Asura/Raksasha Research, but we need this guy as an Asura Rana: http://smite.gamepedia.com/Bakasura

This better now?

Isn't the Tasmanian Devil pretty much like the Wolverine with different coloration? Don't think they have to give the Tasmanian Devil stats, wolverine and dire wolverine are pretty perfect for them.

Good list again Wannabe! But of all your monster lists this is my least favorite because there are too many animal-headed vampires and other blooddrinkers in their mythology, and I never was a huge Rakshasa (other than the tiger-headed D&D rakshasa and the Raktavarna) fan.

Ruick wrote:

I seem to recall that Andrewsarchus was related to sheep (or at least that is what I recall them saying on Walking with Beasts). If so, that would make it at least as formidable as a cave bear.

To each their own, I suppose. But I do like Rakshasas, and I feel like some of these guys could be cool if handled creatively.

I want to see some of the original giants such as Typhon and the titans like Kronos or Iapetus

The level 20 Rakshasa, the Goblin Rakshasa and the Tatatata (or whatever it is called, the level 15 rakshasa) are few of my least favorite creatures in bestiary 3, the Marai could have been sweet but I dislike the artwork.

Maybe if some super creativity is added like you said that I would like the ones in your list!

How would you picture some of these Rakshasa's you mentioned? What abilities or stuff would you add to make them stand out of the blood-drinking crowd?

Stat wise a Tasmanian devil would probably have a stronger bite and do more damage.

You could though create a pretty awesome monster based on Tasmanian devils though. Especially if you give them the disease that is currently wiping them out (Cancer that is transmitted via bite), and made that disease work on humanoids. It has some pretty grotesque effects in devils as is...just imagine it afflicting PCs.

Typhon already exists as a deposed archfiend

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can give the Tasmanian Devil (or call them Devil Hounds) the whirlwind attack of course ;-)

Considering that the Tasmanian Devil is the only member of the genus Sarcophilus, may as well call it a Marsupial, Sarcophilus. Maybe give it some nickname... in Golarion, it could be the Sarusan Devil.

Araxiss, can you be more clear on what your asking.

Just grab the 3.0 book Monster Conpendium: Monsters of Faerun and turn to the templates section. It lists other abilities that liches could potentially have. It lists other types of liches like the Alhoon(off limits to Pathfinder), the Banelich(off limits to Pathfinder), the good aligned Archlich, the elven baelnorn, the base good aligned lich. I think a 3pp even published a psi-lich in the 3.5 days.

Just looking for some other variants of liches and ways to customize them. Surely they can make their own version of a good aligned lich for Pathfinder? One thing I've seen people calling for is more good undead. But I would just like to see more ways to customize liches to help make each lich a little different from his undead kin. New/replacement powers and so one. Maybe a sort of "living lich" as well? Voldemort with his horcruxes from the Harry Potter books seem, to me, to be a sort of "living lich". Maybe a vampiric lich? I dunno. Let your imagination run wild. :)

Even the book The Complete Guide to Liches from Goodman Games had some variant lich types that were interesting to look at.

Sample of Complete Guide to Liches from Drivethrustuff

Hope that helps explain what I'm asking for/trying to describe.

So I say again: Where the liches at? :P

Not just deposed, but DEAD. He was the original Lord of the First, but he was killed. Barbatos showed up to replace him.

I'll use a Unique Hekatoncheires for Typhon and the Drakeiena for Echidna.

Oh yeah, and Typhon was an archdevil. The standard hekatonkheires... actually, all evil titans are Chaotic Evil. You may have to use a different world-monster.

Which almost every mythology has examples of. Typhon, Tiamat, Ymir, and I'm pretty sure the Aztecs had something similar.

I don't like Geryon and Typhon to be devils...

Cipactli would be the Aztec one. Definitely want to see that badass statted.

Wow Wannabe Demon Lord, I would hate to think how long it took to compile that list.

About an hour. I am obsessive about dinosaurs, and have TONS of resources on them. I love paleontology.

Off the top of my head, Entelodonts already are in the bestiary as Dire boars (Technically the name they use is Daeodon, but that is just a somewhat larger genus of Entelodont). Statwise they would be the same

Is it me or are all monster-lovers monster-fantatics and monster-collectors totally in love with Dinosaurs as well?

I think my monster addiction started out with Dinosaurs, cuz animals and most of all dinosaurs were my first big hobby, making me kinda a freak-of-nature in the gay-world as most gays seem to hate games, dinosaurs and such things.

Labyrinthosaurus is an add (giant salamander from hell)

That was an accident, actually. I meant to have Metridochoerus.

Looking back at this, this list is very off-the-top-of-my-head. I think I left out some important ones, like Giganotosaurus, Utahraptor, and Megaraptor, (Who is NOT a giant Deinonychus). I also left out some entire taxonomic groups, like amphibians.
