Request DM advice: Availbility of High level spells

Kingmaker

I'm running Kingmaker, and having a great time. The party is loving it, I could sit here and type up a huge wall of text about how the adventure is going, what my take on it is, and how the players are enjoying it.

One of my players has a problem. This problem can't really be solved except by a high level spell. Specifically, a 9th level spell.

He only needs 1 casting of it, so he'll be perfectly happy with a scroll. He's even scrounged/stole enough money to afford said scroll.

The question is... Where can he find it? As far as I can tell, there aren't really and 17th level spellcasters (Well... none that would cast something USEFUL to the party anyway) anywhere near here.

I'm not too terribly familiar with Golarian as a whole, so I'm not really sure where he could obtain such an item.

We've already cleared book 3, so slipping a scroll of it in with the rewards from that book isn't really an option anymore. How far would he need to travel/send word in order to obtain such a high level spell?

A major city in Brevoy should have it. Alternatively, Pitax.

Pitax.... now THERE's an idea...

Thankyou!

I hear the fey have pretty powerful magic that can do just about anything, assuming you can contact one of their lords, kings, queens, etc. This could be a good way to introduce Fey courts (if they are in your game) or the witchmarket.

Wait, what type of problem requires a 9th level spell to remove? Are we talking about a wish here?

Sovereign Court

My bet is reincarnation gone wrong :P.

Witchmarket! Give it some fluff, g&~ d**nit, and make him think twice.

Also, what kind of "problem"? STD? :p

I too was guessing "undesirable reincarnate result".

Why not just die and reincarnate again if it is that.

What would be the cost to pay for another plus the four castings of restoration - and not be guaranteed the result you want, requiring another repeat and tripling the costs, and so forth until you get a satisfactory result - versus the cost of paying for a wish scroll that (so long as you don't bungle using the scroll) will guarantee you what you want?

There is a possibility of somehow contracting a condition that requires a wish to remove. Though rare, it wouldn't be out of the question. Still, the undesirable reincarnation is the most likely.

We came up with a lower level solution that used limited wish. Character dies and reincarnate is cast ad usual. Limited wish is then cast at the same time to determine the new race instead of using a die roll. A little less expensive, but same result.

As for buying scrolls, we treat them like any other item. If the cost of the scroll is less than the base value of the city, then there's a 75% chance that it's available that month / week / whatever.
