Deck of Many Characters: Artwork of my PC's.

I thought I'd share some of the artwork I've sketched and/or had the time to paint of the various characters I've played in Pathfinder.

First up is the sketch I did of my very first serious tabletop character:
Sabata, the Aerenal Elven Dread Necromancer from our old Eberron game.

After finding out that I'll be "resurrecting" the character to participate in a Pathfinder: Zeitgeist game, I threw some quick colors on him.

Sabata The Dread Necromancer

I had a great time with the Dread Necromancer class, and playing a heretical elven lich-in-the-making wanderer was a TON of fun. So much so that I even started sketching up concepts to give him a couple of illustrated adventures! If I ever get the rest of that work done, they may even see the light of day. ^_^

Very cool ClockworkWraith!!! Nice color palette, and I like the equipment, partial armor and pose of your character. Dread!

Thank you! I wanted to show off some of my favorite equipment, as well as the piecemeal nature of player character armor (I got this off a dead orc chieftain, and this off an undead priest, and these off a brigand captain, etc.).

As for the colors, I think I was watching a lot of Tales from the crypt, and wanted a musty old cloth and leather look.

As it turns out, the scythe is a great weapon for a D.N thematically, and...not so much...mechanically. >_<

Good! Reminds me of pf art mixed with dragon age.

I suppose it can't be helped. XD (I've done work for Dragon Age)

:D
Glad I spotted it. The shin guards gave it away.

Speaking of Eberron; some time ago I DM'ed a fantastic home-brew campaign set in Eberron, wherein I had to play the part of a wide array of great fantasy/pulp villains. They were very well received (and loathed! >D), and while some were better liked, none were more feared than Lucius Bartley, an Artificer/Blood Mage with shades of Moriarty and Dr. Frankenstein, and the central villain of the campaign.

Lucius Bartley, Masterful Villain

His design had to be powerful and noble, while also having a sinister air. The PC's had no idea he was the villain (and indeed, he was a crucial member of the party throughout most of the campaign) until it was too late. It was great seeing the players all so motivated to get some good old fashioned revenge!

These are really great! You're really talented, Clockwork!

Very, very nice stuff.

Coincidentally, Dragon Age: Origins is one of my favorite games of all time.

And DA2 looked very nice too.

I'm glad to hear it! XD

I quite like this. Do you take commissions?

Liberty's Edge

Very nice stuff there! You have a fantastic feel for the drama of a character. Sweet. :)

I do, though my current contracts have me very well booked. Probably for the next month or two.

Thank you. I try to impart some of the story & personality of each character into their artwork. The downside of that is that each piece can sometimes take quite a bit of time as I try to nail their details and expressions.

An important ancillary character in the same campaign that featured Bartley, Dieter VonRuthvek (Part-time curio shop owner/part-time assassin/former war criminal) was one of the most outrageous and entertaining character's I've ever had the joy of roleplaying. Falling somewhere between Dr. Strangelove and Johan Krauss, this lawful evil npc ended up an immediate player favorite, who seemed not to mind his neferious deeds or his constant insulting of them. I suppose I somehow managed to balance manic and devious with outright usefulness.

Deiter VonRuthvek, Part-time Assassin

"Manic" is always a tough act to roleplay, as it is incredibly easy to over do it or play it overly juvenile. I try to keep in mind that even though a character is supposed to be "crazy", he still has to be a fully functioning individual capable of interacting with the public on a daily basis.

Nice stuff! Looking forward to more =D

Thanks! Speaking of;

Last one in the set of old eberron characters, and the only hero I've painted so far from that series.

Qualmior, Elven Airship Pirate

And this is when I get sad because I'm bad at art.

+.5 to this because I'm not bad at art, but I'm not nearly that good.

Hey ClockworkWraith, I sent you a PM. I'll try to catch you on deviantart...

I love your character designs, admitably I didn't really like your first picture's colour palette because it seemed lazy but investigation of your other works has really wowed me.

You have really awesome character designs.
