Hey, so. I'm absolute level 0 at this, but I'm interested in try to get started! I have some of the rule books and the like already (Core, Settings, Advanced Races). I'm not sure how to really go about finding a game to join. I have a Strix character I'm working on. . .
Also, text-based is very much preferred. I'm still in the stage where I just. . .cannot talk in character at all, so it makes me a dull member to a game. I'm a lot better at writing.
If anyone has an advice for my and my dear Strix-assassin. . .

Hi Taskuhecate!
What are you trying to get started with?
The Beginner Box is a great way to introduce your friends to Pathfinder. It contains a neat adventure for 1st level characters, and some basic rules for pulling it off.
If you're interested in an opportunity to play on your own, checkout the Pathfinder Society, and look up their events page here: http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/events
Or perhaps you're looking for the play-by-post forums? http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/campaigns/playByPost

The pbp sounds perfect for me! There's also an event in my area soon, so I might show up to that, though I dunno how successful I'll be. XD
I'm also scared to bother making a character before I can be sure to join a game. I tried to join another place, but they really only allow core races, which doesn't interest me as much. I mean. . .it seems like there's a stigma attached to non-core races in games, or was it just that group? I'm just kind of confused as to how one begins!

Check the recruitment threads often for play by post games. I find that running them and playing in them gives you plenty of time to really role-play your character AND to check rules as you post.
I've started doing play by post games almost exclusively, since real world gaming groups tend to fall apart pretty quickly for whatever reason. It's helped me re-learn a ruleset that was somewhat unfamiliar to me (played AD&D, then quit for a long time, then played and ran 4e, then moved into Pathfinder).
One caveat - play by post games tend to move at a much slower pace than an actual tabletop group, and you miss out on some of the face to face interaction. But if you want a little confidence in playing and eventually running your own games, play by post would be a great way to start. Recruitment can be pretty competitive on the forums here - you're much more likely to get players to play in a game you're running - but I've done both, and they're both fun experiences.
Good Luck!

Just to be clear, if you are going to try and play Pathfinder Society games you will not be able to play a Strix. There is a whole additional set of rules that everyone on a Pathfinder Society game is bound to for character creation etc.
Play by post? That's really just up to the GM and what they'll allow and it never hurts to ask (unless they already specially stated otherwise) :)

Okay, headed there now!
Any advice on Advanced Races though? Will I be able to find games with them? (Strix, specifically.)
Many groups will restrict material, and in particular races can be a common restriction. It can be for balance reasons or for story reasons, but in general races are often a restricted option in many groups.
Honestly I think the best way to learn is to game in person, particularly if you can find a group of people you actually like, possibly getting friends involved. It is a fun way to spend time with friends even if you arent overly familiar with the rules yet.

Hmm. . . The Society does allow Tengu and Teifling though, right? I think I'll try one of them, then. :3 Or maybe just a good ol'half-elf.
It's not that big of a deal - my bf was running a game and opened all races, and I just kinda gained a super fondness for Strix. XD That'll just be my non-Society baby in that case. :3
Variety is the spice of life and all!

I made a Tengu Rogue (Knife Master Archetype). I'm kinda proud of it, but I'm a bit worried I missed something in making it. I kind of want to register the character before the campaign on Sunday, but. . .

What do you guys think? Is it all kosher? (I tried to check everything, but there's so many books...and I was using the d20PFSRD, so...it's possible I missed something.)
I have a hard copy, too.
