I agree MM. The nudity surprised me too. Especially in the 9:00 hour after the more family friendly Dr. Who. I think this show would have been better at the 10:00 hour with the nudity and language. But it likely would not have had the same ratings. The nudity doesn't bother me, I just believe 10:00 would have been a more appropriate time.

Orphan Black is made in Canada specifically for BBC America. So that show is likely designed with the 60 minutes in mind. But we do miss out with Doctor Who by getting edited and chopped up versions of the show. I had rather they stretch it out to 90 minutes even with more commercials and not miss anything. (I guess that is my rant for the day.) :)

Had my TV day, where I watch about 20 hours of television in one day (something I do every couple months) and watched the first five episodes. The lead is very good as the very different versions of 'Sara'.
Felt like it was notable that 'Sara' Sara seemed to have some key differences, like she was not contacted by Beth (though the criminal record might have something to do with this), is possibly the only one who can have children, and may not have been targeted until she stumbled onto Beth.
Suspect there are observers and a hunter faction (of which Elena is connected).
Still, interesting series so far.

Because of those differences and others, I expect Sara will turn out to be the Original, the donor of source DNA material for the rest, and that one or both of her biological parents will have been involved in the secret cloning program from the start.
Mrs. S likely knows nothing about the secret program but is the most likely place for Sara to get information about her biological parents once we get to the point in the story where she wants to try to find out about them and the purpose behind having her cloned.

However, early escapee or something else seems more likely.
I suspect Helena may also be able breed based on her ravings in episode 4.Damon Griffin wrote:Mrs. S likely knows nothing about the secret programMonitor, renegade monitor, dupe, are also possibilities.

Watched the episode last weekend. I think there is a simple reason for the clones. Someone really high-up there in some organization had them all made as part of an experiment, but really just wanted spare parts for their daughter if she were to ever get sick.
Another would be that their high-up person just wanted to give their deceased daughter a 2nd chance at life.
I know this probably ruin things for some, but writers for a series like this, where there is no planed ending, tends to not actually have a planed ending or answers though.

I really think this is one of the better shows on tv right now. The story is pretty decent and the lead actress is amazing how she pulls off all the different roles. I really enjoy Casima and crazy clone. I found myself yelling at the tv last week at the ending. Realized I was yelling like seconds after I did it I was so upset at the ending for the week.

This actually started in the UK tonight with a double bill of the first two episodes. The BBC completely failed to advertise it at all, so I nearly missed it. Fortunately for everyone, it's on the BBC iPlayer (the catch-up service) for the next week.
I thought the first two episodes were excellent. The main actress is incredibly versatile, though the supporting cast is variable (the gay brother is okay, Maria Doyle Kennedy as the foster mother is usually brilliant in everything she does, but the partner cop is fairly cliche). The storyline is promising, but it's the pacing which really works. The show doles out questions and then answers them pretty quickly whilst also building character really well.
The only annoyance is that the series is being broadcast on BBC-3, which doesn't have a HD mirror (though it will by the time Season 2 rolls around). And for some reason the UK Blu-Ray isn't coming out until August 2014, which seems ludicrous given it's already out in the USA.

I agree with Mazra, it was interesting. I will admit the side/rear nudity caught me off guard (not that it happened, but that BBC didn't fuzz it out like they did in Torchwood. Male butts vs female butts?)
They didn't fuzz out the male nudity in Torchwood here in the UK. Maybe because America goes absolutely out of their collective mind at the merest hint of nudity ('wardrobe malfunction'? Yeah, we saw your reaction over here!), but watches children being shot by other children like it's the latest episode of a reality show.
On, topic, we just got the first two episodes of Orphan Black over here. It was on BBC3, so no adverts, and the running time was 45 mins per episode. Don't know where you got the 60 mins from.

She's angry because her name is ridiculously hard to spell, and looks nothing like it sounds.
:P
My other PFS character is called Niamh Snowmane. Niamh is pronounced nee-uv in Ireland, or neev elsewhere.
I think the Irish are having some fun at our expense. : )
Anyway, 'Mrs. S'? What do you think that's all about, at the end of the last episode?

Watched the entire first season and loved it. The main actress was REALLY impressive - usually I forgot that the same women was playing all these characters, because they honestly felt like different people, with separate body language and everything.
There are some things I don't like, though. The plot seems kind of all over the place, the bad guys turned out to be pretty lame, and every single scene that included Vic was terrible (not the actors' fault, it's just that the character was forcefully shoved into the story without contributing much).
But man, that scene where the 3 good clones (science girl, Sara, Murderous Soccer Mom) were sitting together and chatting was *amazing*.

The actor playing Vic also voiced the main bad guy in FAR CRY 3, which kept making me think Vic was about to start killing everyone in sight with explosives and machine guns :)
But yeah, this was a great show, definitely the SF TV highlight of the year (though facing a decent challenge from THE RETURNED, and some of the better episodes of GAME OF THRONES S3). It had some rough spots, but the show succeeded in remaining pacy and not getting bogged down with filler (dropping characters like Allison and Art for a few episodes when they didn't have anything to do, for example) whilst servicing the plot, characterisation and the backstory all quite well. The cliffhanger was a bit of a damp squib, because they'd already done the kidnap storyline two episodes earlier and backed out of it.
As for the 'bad guys', do mean the Neolutionists or the religious nutjobs? The Neolutionists I think are not necessarily meant to be the 'bad guys', but extremely unreliable allies (a bit like Massive Dynamic in the first two seasons of FRINGE when you're not sure what their agenda is), though the patent thing does suggest they may become more antagonistic next year. Helene's bosses definitely appear to be the much greater threat at the moment.

Season 4, episode 2 just aired on the East Coast.
It looks like they're saving money this season by not providing Fe with a wardrobe. :-P

Excellent series. They've done a good job of doing a soft reboot at the end of S3/start of S4, dropping a lot of the more complicated storytelling and some of the unnecessary extra factions and streaming stuff back to a more relatable and straightforward conflict.
All right that sounds better!
