[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Thirty-Fourth, Eko vs. Shigeharu

Play-by-Post

1 to 50 of 130 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

A new arena, a new combatant, a new day, a new bloodbath. Eko comes in from the north, Shigeharu from the south.

Eko 1d2 ⇒ 1, Shigeharu 1d2 ⇒ 2

Eko A11, Shigeharu L11. Initiatives and descriptions, please.

The dark-haired lithe man enters the arena smoothly and calmly. He surveys the crowd briefly with a glance before turning to his opponent and bowing. He holds a parchment in each hand, and a bandolier of vials is secured across his chest. A few javelins are tied in his belt, and a long-handled sword is sheathed on his back.

Armor visible--robes, weapons visible--katana and javelins. Good luck!

Arbiter:
Initiative Roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Initiative: 17

Eko enters slowly calmly carrying a great sword. the heavy robes and gear cover all of Eko, even Eko's face is covered by a mask.

arbiter:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Init: 19

Surprise Round

Eko draws out a small flask from the robes, chugs it and.. vanishes.

arbiter:
Chugs potion of vanish lasts 2 rnds.

you are up

Shigeharu smiles and nods in respect at his opponent before sidestepping behind the pillar at K12.

I will omit the rest of my actions since you can't see me now, I assume. One thing--it's a move action to draw a potion and a standard to drink one. It doesn't matter now since you could have started with the potion in your hand before the match, and this is a practice match, but just wanted to give you a heads up for when the real arena starts.

Arbiter:
5 ft step to K12, cast Expeditious Retreat on myself from a scroll. Swift action: draw a dagger with my spring-loaded wrist sheath.

Back to you, and good luck!

Just a heads up that I'll be traveling a lot today so I can try to post tonight and then a bit more tomorrow. I'll keep checking for updates until I leave, though.

Oh, and I forgot but my face is painted with warpaint to resemble a demon

Is arena freeze in effect then?

well damn yes I guess it would be.

This has come up in a few fights already. It's up to you mbauers, I suppose, but don't feel like you need to have people miss turns if neither person wants it, since we're not jumping directly into another round of battles just yet.

Ok, cool, no arena freeze. Your go, Eko

Eko, are you ready to do this? Bring it, son!

Eko bro where you go though?

I am terribly sorry, life has been a whirlwind the past few days.
post will be up shortly

:Round 1.:

arbiter:
Cast Mage armor, 1st round of vanish. move to F.10

nothing seems to happen, back to you
though possibly a perception check should you wish, Arbitrator deems needed.

Aye, perception check from Shigeharu.

I'll just forgo trying to detect him with perception. If he's stationary I have no chance, and my perception is so bad that I believe even if he rolls a one and I roll a 20 I can't detect him.

Eko, if you are currently in sight of me:
Shigeharu reads from his scroll and disappears from view.

Arbiter:
Standard action: Cast Vanish CL 2 from scroll. Move action: to K13 (drop dagger there), then go to K12, K11, K10, K9, K8, J7, I6, H5, H4. As I move I will draw my sword. Swift action: Arcane pool to enhance my sword. Stealth to hear me: 1d20 + 2 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 20 = 30 Rounds remaining-- Expeditious Retreat (9/10), Vanish (2/2), Sword enhancement (10/10). Arcane Pool points remaining: (3/4)

Perception to locate me is 30, modified by distance (which Arbiter will have to take care of.

No worries--I was traveling in the horrible snowstorm by St Louis the last two days, so I feel ya. ;-)

Eko is not insight of you

:Round 2:

arbiter:
Eko casts lesser evolution surge from a scroll. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16. no problem spell is cast 4 temporary evolution points.....AC: now 19, Str: 21. The spell lasts for 3 minutes, so I guess 30 rounds?

you are up again, and again are entitled to a perception check just a heads up

Eko sees and hears nothing of his (her?) opponent.

Back to you!

Arbiter:
Move action draw scroll of shield. Standard cast shield. I have +42 to stealth, so I'm not going to bother rolling. Rounds remaining-- Expeditious Retreat (8/10), Vanish (1/2), Sword enhancement (9/10), Shield (10/10), AC: 19 . Arcane Pool points remaining: (3/4)

:Round 3:

arbiter:
Vanish ends. Cast lesser evolution surge again....Reach with great sword is now 10ft. +8 Intimidate.

and again perception if you wish, and thus far Eko doesn't have any known traits aside from a humanoid figure

Even if you're moving, I only have +1 perception. Do you have any stealth at all? If I roll a 20 and you roll a 1, I think I still can't see you.

yea, my stealth is far better then your's, to the point where now I I understand why you don't bother.

that would make it your go

Arbiter:
Standard: Spellstrike cast Frostbite. Move to H9. Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28 Attack from invisibility Vs FF AC using Combat Expertise (threatening defender)1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 Katana two-handed damage, whetstone, 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 plus nonlethal damage from Frostbite 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Then swift action activate Warpaint. If save fails, 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds of frightened, otherwise 1 round of shaken

Round 3

The swordsman appears out of nowhere (DC 28 perception check to detect me and get an AoO as I approach--note, you'll still have the 50% miss chance since I'm invisible when provoking) next to the enlarged Eko. He holds his katana in a two-handed grip, ice forming around the length of the blade. After a vicious two-handed slash, the warpaint on Shigeharu's face animates, giving him the appearance of a frightening demon.

First, I appear in H9 (after attacking, obviously). I hit a 19 vs your FF AC. If that hits, you take 10 lethal plus 5 nonlethal and are fatigued. Then the warpaint activates, which requires a Will Save DC 11.

Eko, if you succeed WS 11:
You are shaken for one round.

Eko, if you fail WS 11:
You are frightened for 3 rounds.

Arbiter:
Rounds remaining-- Expeditious Retreat (7/10), Sword enhancement (8/10), Shield (9/10), AC: 20 . Arcane Pool points remaining: (3/4), Frostbite charges remaining (1/2).

Your go.

Correction on if you fail at the WS:
My bad, it's 1d4, not 1d4+1. On a failure you are frightened for 2 rounds, not three.

The correction is if Eko fails the will save, not succeeds.

Sorry, fixed.

first off... sorry I didn't mention re appearing.. second ough

damn it interweb gremlins ate my post

Eko Teliy wrote:

No worries--arbiter gave me the heads up

The katana bites deep into Eko drawing forth a torrent of blood quickly soaking layers of leather and heavy cloth.
Round 4.

arbiter:
will Save. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 with the -2 from shaken.
Attack.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 222d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 6) + 5 = 14 this includes the -2 from shaken, then acrobatics to move back 5ft. to E11
as I am not enlarged only increased reach.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Eko is shaken
Attack. 22
Damage. 13
Then an acrobatics 14 vs your cmb, not looking stellar ending Eko in E11

you are up with an AoO

Note you're actually shaken and fatigued, but I'm hit regardless.

Are you moving more than 5 ft? If not, you don't provoke an AoO.

indeed only 5 feet. ninja edit sorry just looked your post again, fatigued indeed.

No, you're fatigued from the spell that was on my sword when I stabbed you. That effect persists. In addition, you are shaken for one round from my warpaint.

your go

So are you E/F 10/11 then?

I'll assume that's the case. Let me know if I'm wrong. Round 4.

Shigeharu clutches the wound on his chest and backs up, drawing an alchemical concoction from his bandolier and throwing it onto the large robed figure before running away to the west.

Arbiter:
5 ft move to I8. Move action: Draw alchemist's fire. Standard Action throw, ranged touch vs his fatigued AC. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Swift Action: Quickrunner's shirt to go to G1. Rounds remaining-- Expeditious Retreat (6/10), Sword enhancement (7/10), Shield (8/10), AC: 19 . Arcane Pool points remaining: (3/4), Frostbite charges remaining (1/2)

If 14 touch hits your fatigued touch AC you take 5 damage and are on fire. I ran around behind the pillar to the west.

Make that a touch AC of 12. I thought the range increment was 20 ft. Oh well. Anyway, if it doesn't hit let me know and I'll roll for the splash.

to be clear Eko is still medium size, not really sure where the large came from.
Roll the splash, it doesn't hit my touch.

Really? Fatigued is -2 Dex. I'll roll the splash in a bit.

Wait, you're medium size? Arbiter told me you were large sized. This matters because if you move to E11 you would provoke from me as that's more than 5 ft and your acrobatics roll failed. It also matters because if you were 10 ft away from me and medium sized I would have just thrown the alchemist's fire and been within an easier range increment. I backed up to stay out of your reach. Hmm, how do we proceed?

This was my mistake. Echo got noticeably larger (reach increased to 10 ft., so your actions were correct), but she didn't actually increase in size. Eko did only move 5 ft., so I don't think there was any AoO. Does this seem correct?

Well, I was at H9 and thought Eko was in F/G-10/11. Should we just say he was in G10 and 5ft moved to F11 (as E11 would be a 10 ft move)? Then I can keep my move and everything should be good. Did I miss my 12 touch attack? It's effective 13 since he's fatigued. If so, I hit 1d8 ⇒ 8 looks like I11, so neither of us is splashed. Either way, back to Eko.

Eko was in F10 and didn't move till after the attack against mbauers, Eko is thus in E11.
also where are you now mbauers?

I'm off to the west but you can't see the exact square because there's a pillar in th way. Did you account for the -2 Dex from fatigued in your touch AC? Sorry to harp on it, but I didn't see a response to that yet

ah yes, sorry it does connect
is there a reflex for half or some such thing?
Round5
"Ha now I am the one to stand strong, find me little child... I wish to end this"

arbiter:
Eko still in E11 casts, Rejuvenate lesser2d10 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11 Back to max hp, then move slowly lazily to I11

I guess if I am out of sight of you you are entitled to a perception check

Your go

Nah, I'll start moving to H2, I3, I4, I5. Can I see you yet? Also, you take another 1d6 ⇒ 5 fire from the second round of the alchemist's fire.

Arbiter:
So I'm going to go along that path and if I get to I7 and can't see him I'll go NE then N to E10 and take a trail defense. If I see him and can reach him with my 60 ft move I'll tumble to avoid the AoO from his reach then two-handed spellstrike with frostbite. Tumble 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 vs his fatigued CMD. Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Katana Damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Frostbite nonlethal damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Crit confirm 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Crit katana damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Crit Frostbite damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
