Gunslinger / Duelist

Advice

So, I'm planning on putting together a Gunslinger (Pistolero)/ Duelist for PFS. I've got the concept pretty firmly in mind but I'm having a little trouble deciding on my exact stat distribution and feat selections.
I was planning on choosing elf as my race and taking the Envoy and Fleet-footed alternate racial traits.

How important is it for me to pump Wisdom? I know I'll need at least a bit for grit but I want to keep my INT fairly high too for skills and to better utilize some of my duelist abilities.
I figure my 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th level abilities are probably locked in to Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Reload, and Rapid Shot, but what are the best feats to take from their for a character using a single one-handed firearm? I assume Deft Shootist and Deadly Aim are probably must-haves, is there anything else that would complement the build?

I would consider taking the Snap shot and improved snap shot, so you can threaten 15ft around you with you pistol.

I'm not a big fan of deadly Aim/Power Attack feats, don't like to trade hit for dmg because i never hit when I use those feats

Edit# Deft Shootist is a great feat but in society i'm not sure how much use it would be by the time you finally get it around.

Full bab class hitting touch will almost never miss. Deadly aim is free damage as far as I can tell.

The 3 feats required to get in, dodge/mobility/weapon finesse don't do much for you unfortunately. Having to take them hurts, especially if your already dedicated to those feats. If it were a homegame I'd suggest talking to the DM about changing the requirements to be a dualist for a gunslinger.

In my experience wisdom isn't a dump stat for anoyone but isn't really something to pump up to 18 at level one either.

I would go for 15-16 in wisdom depending on your race, if you have access to Angels og Blood i would take a look on the Garuda-Aasimar herritage.

I read in another post that the Precise strike from the duelist had been errata'ed to only count melee weapons.

Okay, so for my fire arm I need:
PBS, Precise Shot, and Rapid Shot, yes?
And then I'll need Dodge, Mobility, and weapon finesse.
So I'm thinking I may want to switch to human and go:
Gunslinger 7 / Duelist 5
STR 10 Con 10 Dex 18 (16+2) INT 14 WIS 14 CHA 10
1st:Point Blank Shot, Weapon Finesse (bonus)
3rd: Precise Shot
4th: Dodge
5th: Mobility
7th: Rapid Shot
9th: Deadly Aim
11th: Deft Shootist?

That'd get me all my feats for normal PFS play. Anyone have enough experience with running a gunslinger in PFS play to say whether that build should work?

No Rapid Reload in that. Without it you can't reload as a free action and use more than one shot per round, and it still eats a move action to reload.

I'm not seeing that errata anywhere... does anyone have more information on that?

***EDIT***
I just sifted through the entire 1st to 5th printing errata and the FAQ list, I cannot find anything that says a duelists abilities wouldn't function just fine with a pistol.

What do you think the best feat to drop would be? Would it be best to just take Rapid Reload at 1st and push the rest of my firearm feats forward and drop Deft Shootist?

I don't play PFS, but doesn't the Gunslinger get a Bonus Feat at 8th Level?
EDIT just remembered you're doing 7 levels not 8.

Level 9 PFS Pistolero. Click my name and you can see what feats I took. I need to update it for level 9, Imp Snap Shot. Pure gunslinger hits hard and offten.

Quote:
Precise Strike (Ex): A duelist gains the ability to strike precisely with a light or one-handed piercing weapon, adding her duelist level to her damage roll.

So level 7 you will get a +1 to dmg

Quote:
Gun Training (Ex): Starting at 5th level, a gunslinger can select one specific type of firearm (such as an axe musket, blunderbuss, musket, or pistol). She gains a bonus equal to her Dexterity modifier on damage rolls when firing that type of firearm. Furthermore, when she misfires with that type of firearm, the misfire value of that firearm increases by 2 instead of 4.

Level 5 Dex mod to dmg

Quote:
Pistol Training (Ex): Starting at 5th level, a pistolero increases her skill with one-handed firearms. She gains a bonus on damage rolls equal to her Dexterity modifier, and when she misfires with a one-handed firearm, the misfire value increases by 2 instead of 4. Every four levels thereafter (9th, 13th, and 17th), the bonus on damage rolls increases by +1. At 13th level, a pistolero never misfires with a one-handed firearm.

Pistolero even better + to dmg

I would skip the Duelist. From what I read they need piercing weapons for most of the abilitys. Go gunslinger all the way and you will get more bang for your buck.

RP the Gunslinger like a Duelist.

I was looking for something with decent skills a la relatively high INT who could get decent damage out of fighting with a one handed weapon.

Since Pistols are one-handed piercing weapons and work with the Duelist's abilities, this seemed like a fun way to get an extra 5 damage per shot and a collection of cool abilities. Plus, I figured Canny Defense would help bump my AC faster and better than just Nimble by itself.

Note!
For many of the class features of the duelist, a requirement is to be using a light or one-handed piercing weapon. This must also be a melee weapon; a duelist cannot use such class abilities with a ranged-only weapon or thrown-only weapon.

* this note is added on d20pfsrd in the duelist description.

I don't think that you can use pistols. They are Ranged weapons that use B & P ammo. I could be wrong.

Quote:
Canny Defense (Ex): When wearing light or no armor and not using a shield, a duelist adds 1 point of Intelligence bonus (if any) per duelist class level to her Dexterity bonus to modify Armor Class while wielding a melee weapon. If a duelist is caught flat-footed or otherwise denied her Dexterity bonus, she also loses this bonus.

This one for sure says that it needs to be a melee weapon.

Maybe someone else might have a better idea if gunslingers and duelists "stack" well. From what I am reading though you are going to have to give something up for the other.

I still am sticking to my "guns" make a smart gunslinger and RP it as a duelist.

I would like to see some official clarification that this must be a melee weapon. I see it on the d20pfsrd, but they are not Paizo official and there does not appear to be anything in FAQ or Errata that makes this clarification.

As it stands, a pistol is a one-handed piercing weapon and qualifies for use with Duelist abilities.

@ Lexica
Good catch on the Canny defense.
Do you think having a natural attack would qualify this ability?

I am thinking you are probably right that this is going to be easier to just go full gunslinger and flavor to taste though.
