Leng Themed Magic Items...

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I looking for some Leng themed magic items or artifacts. Any suggestions?

*Looks for the T-Rex*

You might try contacting the T-Rex directly through *this* thread:

I don't know of any besides the Talons of Leng used in the Rise of the Runelords.

Minor artifact spell tome, used by a Runelord among others, which holds infinite pages.

If Leng has humanoids they must use the Big Six. Possibly not in the same slots though.

Difficult question. Leng is a vague, soft place.

Ideas:

1. The Hexagonal Spice Rack - Six spice jars have a magical effect when used to aid cooking an intelligent creature: for a brief time those eating the meal have ability scores (one per spice jar) elevated to that of the food. Each spice jar initially has seven uses. The spice rack itself resembles wood but is clearly not, and any attempts to identify its material lead to madness.

2. Enigmatic Priestly Garmets - Provide protection from scrying and other divination magic. Attempts instead reveal visions of sickening glyphs.

3. Mesa Table - This thirteen by eighteen by forty-seven foot marble rectangular solid is perpetually warm. Its top surface is covered by a landscape mode of clay-like material. The Mesa Table's landscape determines the reality of an identical demi-plane: reshaping the clay changes the geography in the demi-plane.

4. Sextant of Higher Navigation - Using this tool to direct the course of a sailing ship leads to horrifyingly interesting travels.

5. Crooked Pavilion - This large tent has three interior rooms (and two interior door-flaps). A large awning can be extended over the front door-flap. All three doorways, when closed and reopened, lead to a new location, usually on a different plane.

6. Tinaldos Talc - Two bags of powdered talc, pink and blood red. When splashed on a room's corner a magical portal appears to the most recently created portal of the other color. If either color has not yet been used, the created portal leads to the laboratory in which the item was created.

7. The Other Folding Boat - A perfectly normal boat, until everyone on it is dreaming. Dreams merge until the dreamers meet each other in an arena and fight to the "death". The losers receive no benefit from sleeping. The winner receives all the benefits (HP recovered, spell slots available, etc.) forfeited by the losers.

8. Baby Bottle of Battle - Just like its name says: a bottle with a baby monster inside that fights for you when released.

Note there is a specific printed one as well in Ultimate Combat:

Talons of Leng
Price 67,000 gp; Aura strong transmutation; CL 15th; Weight 1 lb.

Finely laid gold filigree lines these ornately worked talons. Once donned, the talons of Leng grant the wearer a natural claw attack with each hand that deal 1d4 points of damage for a Medium wearer, or 1d3 points of damage for a Small wearer. These claw attacks have a +3 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls. On a critical hit, the target must succeed at a DC 20 Will save or become permanently confused as per the insanity spell. This is a mind-affecting effect.

The wearer of the talons of Leng is immune to effects that grant the confused condition. For as long as she wears the talons, however, her Wisdom is reduced by 2, as alien voices constantly whisper through her head. The talons of Leng do not interfere with spellcasting, the use of handheld items, or wielding weapons.

If you don't mind home-brewed, here's my Superstar item entry this year...

Vest of Leng, Skinsilk

Aura strong illusion; CL 13th
Slot chest; Price 28,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This supple, skin-colored leather vest contains iridescent purple silk lining and embroidery depicting bizarre creatures.

Twice per day, by speaking the command words "I am your nightmare," the wearer can take a nightmare form, seemingly transforming into a visible, corporeal creature on the summon monster IV, V, or VI lists for up to seven minutes or until the temporary hit points granted by this ability are lost. This functions similarly to beast shape IV, elemental body III, or vermin shape II spells, except for the shape chosen and as described below.

The wearer gains illusory versions of any weapons the form wields, which always deal 1d6 damage/x2 instead of the normal weapon damage and critical range; ranged weapons come with six pieces of ammunition, and have 30 ft range; they otherwise follow the rules of a masterwork weapon of their type. While within nightmare form, the wearer gains 30 temporary hit points, damage reduction 5/magic and cold iron, and resist energy 5 against acid, cold, fire, and electricity, regardless of the form's normal defenses.

Each time a creature is damaged by or successfully damages the wearer, the creature receives a will save (DC 20) to disbelieve. If successful, the creature recognizes the form as illusory, takes only half damage from attacks granted by the form, and ignores all damage reduction and resistance granted by the nightmare form.

The wearer can make one bluff and one disguise check when activating this ability. Any foes that fail an appropriate sense motive or perception check take a –2 penalty per failed check (maximum –4) to their saves to disbelieve.

Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, nightmare, shadow conjuration, greater, veil; Cost 14,000 gp

Obviously it didn't make it beyond the first round, but, hey, I liked it. :)

For more links to the more official things (including links to some already mentioned):

Also, though you asked for artifacts, here's a few more things reference Leng/Dreams...

there's the

Leng Spider, Denizen of Leng, Muse (awesome 3rd party race), Moon Beast, Nightmare Tears (wondrous item I just discovered), Spires of Xin-Shalast (talks a lot about it, apparently), Bladed Webs, Trap (from Leng Spiders, above), Scarlet Walker (a creature I didn't know existed until now), Ravener Template, Animate Dream, Dream Eater template (relates to Gem of Dreams), Dream Creature template, Dream Journal of the Pallid Seer, Book, Dream Spider (not really related, but it has "dream" in the name!), Dream Domain (domain by 4 Winds Fantasy gaming), Midnight Milk (drug), Baku (sweet!), Lucid Dream trait, the planes (why not!), dreamweaver witch archetype (which is related to...), Night Hag (though there's no specific "changeling" related to them...), Purple Duck Games goddess Neria, Flumph (weak link, but they've got a whole dreams-thing), Juju Oracle (they have some dream powers), and Spherewalker (tied to Desna and dreams).

Oh, and the Dream Sorcerer bloodline.

And that's pretty much everything I can find (outside of specific spells) that I can find on d20pfsrd. ArchivesofNethys also has a lot of cool things (mostly the same as d20pfsrd, but more associated with the "real" names in the Golarion canon.

So... I hope that helps!

EDIT: Oh! I forgot! Star Spawn of Cthulu! I mean, who could talk about nightmares and craziness without one of those guys?!

I actually really want to run a dream-themed game now.

Hmm....Box of Distant Voices. Price unknown; moderate conjuration.

This burnished wooden box has been carved with reliefs of all sorts of bizarre and fantastic creatures. The interior seems perpetually shrouded in shadow, and is prone to making bizarre speech-like echoes in any sort of breeze. A knowledgeable user who concentrates on the box can make contact and communicate (but not otherwise interact) with a random extraplanar creature. The creature is under no compunctions to tell the truth or even answer questions appropriately. Whatever entity the user of the box makes contact is granted a psychic image of the user and his or her surroundings, as if using clairvoyance and clairvoyance. The user of the box, however, does not gain this ability.

DM secretly rolls d8
1- Alien entity from the Dark Tapestry
2- Lawful Neutral outsider
3- True Neutral outsider
4- Chaotic Neutral outsider
5- Lawful evil outsider
6- Neutral evil outsider
7- Chaotic evil outsider
8- Random good outsider

1/day the box can open itself and speak to anyone within earshot (rolling randomly for an outsider as normal).

That is freaking awesome...

Rough Concepts here, nothing balanced or priced.
Hourglass of Broken Dreams
The sands of this hourglass are actually the ground remnants of dreamer's bones harvested by the Leng. 1/day the wielder may let the sands run and draw upon the bliss of a dream re-roll a single check, attack, or save made within the last round. The user may attempt to use this item more than once per day, but the item has a cumulative 10% chance per use to instead to use Insanity, Nightmare, or Plane Shift: Leng.

Scrollcase of Shifting Sigils
This scrollcase may store up to 100 scrolls in an extra dimensional space. 1/day the user may instead switch out any scroll for a scroll of Legend Lore. However there is a cumulative 10% chance the scroll may instead reveal some incomprehensible truth or concept that causes the user to suffer from an Insanity Effect.

Potion of Protection from Cats
An unusual potion, this potion grants the drinker the duel effects of sanctuary and protection from alignment, but only from cats or other felines (as determined by the DM).
