Lashunta

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I am interested in starting a Lashunta character.
I have been looking at pictures to try and get an idea of how the character would look..................... accidentally typed "Lashanta" into google images search..............that came up with some interesting character ideas. Give it a try.

Ok, so in the Distant Worlds sourcebook it mentions that the Lashunta ride around on giant lizard steeds called "shota".
I was wondering if there were any rules for these creatures or if there would be any good approximations.

Dark Archive

The Inner Sea Beastiary says they ride Suarians so you could probably just find a suitable dino mount in the bestiary for them. Or from the Saurian Shaman archetype for druids.

ishan, do a megalania. those are good.

I think the inspiration for the Lashunta -- judging by the sexual dimorphism thing and the illustrations I have seen -- is La of Oppar in the Tarzan books. The females there didn't ride dinosaurs though and they didn't have antennae. So there is a combination with some other literary reference or trope -- smart psychic aliens.

They finally illustrated a male lashunta in People of the Stars. It looks nice, but it doesn't seem to match up to past descriptions (barely half the height of their female counterparts and twice as broad).

It matches, they average 4'6''-5' tall and are harry and muscular. So they look like ugly harry muscular dwarves with antennae.

I also picture them with weird hair and eye colors.

Meh...not how pictured them.

Well when I first read there description I thought the males would look misshapen like Quasimodo.

So, I found this amusing. I don't mind to nitpick but Harry is a name. As in Potter. Hairy, means possessed of lots of hair.

So I was envisioning a short and wide Harry Potter with big muscles.

*harry can also mean to persistently attack someone or harass them, though that is equally not correct in context.

The Exchange

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Charter Superscriber

Lots of pulp fantasy featured such creatures, Almuric by R.E. Howard being a good example. Classic sword and planet fare. Beautiful, fair skinned, voluptous women vs. scraggly, hairy, brutish men. Insert heroic male type, and all kinds of non-pc adventures commence.

Really? I always thought they were partially inspired by the Titanians from the Generation 1 Transformers episode "The God Gambit".

Well, whatever the inspiration, we definitely NEED more info on them AND Castrovel. What are their capital cities? Who are their rulers (any significant Lashunta NPC's)?

What gods or deities do they worship? Do they use any significant equipment? What are they stats for their shota steeds? These are the questions we need answered!

Liberty's Edge

You might want to check out some of the entries on Venus in fiction. I recall reading an article where there was a race on Venus that looked like the Lashunta.

I know a lot of the Lashunta was inspired by Ralph Milne Farley's "Radio Man" book series. The race on the planet, called Cupians, had blonde hair, blue eyes, vestigial wings, no ears, and communication through antenna on there head. They were subservient to the Formians, a race of intelligent ant-like creatures.

yeah the Lashunta have been stated to draw inspiration from various pulp fiction tropes, with the Radio Man series the main point of inspiration

I really wish they would do more with the Lashunta and the planet Castrovel in general. Though I heard we will be seeing more art for Lashunta in the last volume of the Iron Gods AP:)

Huh, so that's where the Formians originate from. Neat.

And aren't there Formians on Castrovel?

Yes there are Formians on Castrovel, in fact they rule one of the four continents.

I KNOW RIGHT, we SOOO NEED more INFO on both the Lashunta and planet Castrovel (maybe even a module or adventure path set there)!

Well the only time they print books about new places is for APs and sometimes modules;)

I certainly have no problems with either an interstellar Adventure Path or a Module taking place on Castrovel. ^_~

I would be happy with some cool racial feats and alternate racial traits for Lashunta and stats for several creatures native to the planet.

They're not official (made for my homebrew game I'm running with a mated pair of Lashunta), but you can use these if you want:

Lashunta Alternate Racial Traits

  • Arcane Attuned: The Lashunta have a long history with magic, leading to inherent familiarity with the arcane since childhood in some individuals. This racial trait gives the Lashunta a +2 racial bonus to identify spells and magic items with Spellcraft and Knowledge (Arcana). This racial trait replaces Knowledgeable.
  • Collective Cognition: A Lashunta with this racial trait can sense and process the stimuli being experienced by other living things in the area to gain a better understanding of their surroundings. This grants them the ability to add their Intelligence modifier to Perception, Sense Motive, or Survival skill checks instead of their Wisdom modifier. The choice of which skill to use this with must be made at first level and cannot be changed later. This racial trait replaces Limited Telepathy.
  • Dream Insight: While dreaming, a Lashunta gains some insight into the events of the next day. Twice per day after gaining a full nights rest, a Lashunta with this trait may take 10 on the Knowledge skill to which they applied their Knowledgeable racial trait. As long as they have at least one use of Dream Insight left that day, a Lashunta with this racial trait also doubles the bonus from Knowledgeable. This racial trait replaces Lashunta Magic.
  • Empathic Sensitivity: Some Lashunta have a variant form of telepathy that works along less concrete mental boundaries. These Lashunta gain a +4 racial bonus to Sense Motive when interacting with non-mindless beings within 30 feet. Once per day, they may add this bonus to one Charisma-based skill or ability check against such a creature. This must be used before the success or failure of the roll is announced. This racial trait replaces Limited Telepathy.
  • Focused Clarity: The familiarity some Lashunta have with the mind has allowed them to attain a state of mental clarity and equilibrium that augments their normal activities. As a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, a Lashunta with this ability can focus their mind to gain a +2 racial bonus to concentration checks. This bonus lasts until they next rest for the night. They may instead expend this focus as a free action to treat their concentration check as a natural 10. This racial trait replaces Telepathy.
  • Force of Thought: The convergence of their race's innate mental and magical capacity allows some Lashunta to maximize the effectiveness of certain types of spells. The Lashunta gains a +1 racial bonus to the DC of any spells or spell-like abilities they use that have the mind-affecting descriptor. This racial trait replaces Lashunta Magic.
  • Iron Ego: A Lashunta with this racial trait uses sheer force of will to become a bastion of mental fortitude. They gain Iron Will as a bonus feat and reduce the penalty from fear effects to Will saves and any mental-based skills by 1. A Lashunta accomplishes this mental fortitude though an extreme sense of self-assurance that strikes many as arrogant, imposing a -1 penalty on their Charisma-based skill and ability checks. This racial trait replaces Lashunta Magic.
  • Lore Mastery: With years of experience mastering the arcane and accumulating lore, the Lashunta race has developed a diversified approach to collecting and utilizing knowledge. Lashunta that take this racial trait may make untrained knowledge checks higher than 10 with two additional two Knowlege skills. This racial trait replaces Knowledgeable.
  • Magic Warded: Generations of exposure to magic have left some lines of Lashunta far more resilient to the harmful potential of spell-based combat. Lashunta with this racial trait gain a +1 racial bonus to saves against spells and spell-like effects. This bonus doubles to +2 on saves against spells and spell-like effects from magic items. This racial trait replaces Lashunta Magic.
  • Mental Agility: Rather than touching the minds of others, a Lashunta can learn to focus their mental awareness and energy inward to enhance the speed, stability, and power of their cognitive processes. Once per day, a Lashunta with this trait can reroll a caster level or initiative check and add a +2 racial bonus to the result. They must take the result of this second roll, even if it’s lower than that first. This racial trait replaces Limited Telepathy.
  • Of One Mind: Sometimes Lashunta function on such clear mental wavelengths that they are capable of a mental bond that goes beyond what is normally possible with their race. Once per encounter, a Lashunta with this racial trait may use the Aid Another action to benefit an ally’s AC, CMD, attack roll, or saving throw. This is an immediate action that may only be used on a willing creature within 30 ft. They may instead use this ability when rolling initiative to grant another ally the benefit of their initiative modifier. This racial trait replaces the Knowledgeable and Lashunta Magic traits.
  • True Telepathy: The antennae of all Lashunta are very sensitive to numerous stimuli, but some channel the powers of the mind far more effectively than others. This racial trait extends the normal range of Lashunta telepathy to 60 feet and allows them to communicate as such with any creatures that can understand at least one language. This racial trait replaces Lashunta Magic and alters Limited Telepathy.
