A ranger and his monkey?

Advice

Silver Crusade

I'm running a Savage Tide game and one of the players is playing a Ranger. Now the player has requested a monkey as an animal companion. He wants the monkey to be a nuisance to his enemies rather than a combat powerhouse, stealing things, getting in the way, that kind of thing.

How should I deal with this? I like the idea but I'm not sure mechanically how to go.

Ideas?

I vote for Clide. :)

orangutan "left turn Clide" ah lah "Any which way but loose"

capuchin monkey "Teh Fez an vest type" See "The hangover 2"

The stat block for monkeys is in the beasteary.

Baboon animal companion

Silver Crusade

Perfect! Thanks Ben.

Baboon more or less fits the bill, but it's terrible stat-wise. Especially if you compare it against the Ape. I'd at very least give it a climb speed.

Does the ape later on macome large sized, since it's medium?

Remember that ranger companions are very, very squishy. I would encourage the player to consider the Boon Companion feat.

You could give it an ad hoc bonus on disarm, steal, or dirty trick combat maneuvers. That would make it more competitive with other higher-stat animal companions and also more in line with what your player wants.

Animal Archive has a ton of new tricks he could train his animal companion to do, from disarming to stealing to tossing splash weapons...

Check out the animal archetypes from AA. They're already on d20pfsrd in the animal companion rules.

Though the trope is better fulfilled by a monkey familiar with the pilferer template. Maybe a dip in Carnivalist rogue? There are also new feats for animal companions and familiars iirc.

Improved Steal feat would also fit..

Silver Crusade

Thanks all I will pass that on to the player.

I thought worshipers of Besmara had the option of a Monkey familiar.
