[Amora Game] Minor Announcement of AP

Product Discussion

Hey Folks,

I recently posted a "state of address" on our blog at AmoraGame.com

One of the highlights I wanted to share is:

Prepare for War:

If you wish for peace… Prepare for War:

We have asked for opinions on a few forums, received feedback, and decided the direction on which the above quote should take.

Many people talk of war and war campaigns, running mass combat battles, playing elite squad of soldiers, etc.

Amora Game has a wide list of resources we are pulling from to make such ideas happen.

Coming soon will be our first adventure, Back to Basic, in a series of war themed adventures designed to take you from basic training to the trenches of all out border wars. Where the player characters’ mission if successful, can change the tide for the army, and if they fail can lead to the possible downfall of an entire nation.

This is no simple task to go at it alone. So as we progress in our writing and publishing, we will have links in these PDFs to give us your progress feedback. You could be the deciding factor on how the tide of war changes the world.

So we at Amora Game, officially announce the “Prepare for War” AP adventure path coming soon.

The first installment of the AP is looking end of April, or beginning of May. We should have our official date soon.

So insert buzz words here etc etc..

Thank you all for the support you have given us so far.
- GL

Sounds intriguing. I'm into the idea, grom Basic Training to full-fledged war. I also like this:

I wouldn't call the announcement of an AP "minor". ;) That being said, if you manage to pull this off properly, this will be VERY interesting indeed.

Cheers!

Sounds cool, i've always wanted to do a war focused game, its just always seemed hard to pull off. If this is well done I could definately see picking it up.

It's a big project to take on, but we think it should go well.

The trouble we are deciding currently, is at a certain point in the first AP you can choose path A or B. So the set up for book two, will have a combined A & B as different chapters.
Or we release them as different modules. That is a deciding factor, and it also steams for the reporting process of those paying through Back to Basic, the first AP.

The final chapter of the first book is scheduled to be done by EOM March, and then off to the editor.

Glad there is an interest for this.

Just a brief update:
We continue to evolve this AP as the play testing goes on.

Our initial schedule was for just after GenCon. However, there a turn in schedule due to unforeseen player actions.
Coming up with things that we felt should be covered. It's turning almost into a campaign setting.
We are also trying to cover things that are coming up in other 3rd party material that offer great player options.

We hope to have an update later on this month as to official release of the AP.
Thanks for the patience.
- Greg

News Brief:
Amora Game is happy to announce that we have a guest designer on this project.

Mr. Daron Woodson of Abandoned Arts, has signed our PO to develop a few war themed archetypes for the Prepare for War AP.
We are very excited to be working with him.

Great news! I'm still pretty stoked about this AP!

Liberty's Edge

Ooh, I'm about to start a war themed campaign so I am quite interested to see your guys take on something like this. I'll be following this one!

Intresting...I am just going to leave a dot here.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

One of the major things after part 1 is going to rely heavy on the "war progress" feedback reporting system. To see how the players in the ap decide on "certain" actions and to see how it will effect part 2 & part 3.

Interactive AP. If we can pull it together right. But more updates to come.

If you can pull off a miniature organized play like that, my hat's off to you guys - that would be rather awesome indeed!

Could you speak more about this?

Do you mean that the parts 2 and 3 of the AP will written after release of part 1 and the reports from part 1 will influence direction of parts 2 and 3 development?

Ah, good question. Yes and No.
No because large elements (70%) of part 2 & 3 are written, or still in the process there of.

Yes because:
The end of part 1 revolves around a siege of a city. After the release there will be a slight delay of 1 or 2 months where players/GMs that play this AP can report the results of the battle or what choice the players decided to do.

That kind of influences how part 3 can end, but more importantly it solidifies the path of Part 2 will take based on the majority of the results reported.

Currently the writers, writing path A and path B. If the majority of the results are A, then Part 2 will be path A on release. If B than B

Meaning I have writers designing two paths at once and one may not be used.

A lot of investment for one that may not happen.

With this in mind, as people finish Part 1, we know there will be a delay to continue the adventure in Part 2. We are working on an idea to put in place a middle module, so that there is something to run in the meantime. A plug in one might say.

Lot of things to consider when writing a world influencing change.

Shall I rephrase short answer: yes.

Eat your heart out, Choose-Your-Own-Adventures!

Very early teaser art of "Breaker Company".
Specialty unit for your armies of war. . specialty units for mass combat you say??

Inspired by our Breaker Prestige Class.

So stealing a page from Rite Publishing for the Kaiden world.

This AP will be a direct drive into our eventual campaign setting, God-King, name subject to change.

We can say that the outcome of the reporting for PfW part 1 will effect the writing of an entire region of the known world.

A small confession:

I think about this every time I hear think about an AP called Prepare for War. I move that we should consider an official theme song.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'd think more about music like Sabaton...

We have posted an open call for a part of this project right here. Project will consist of the development of 15 themed traits.

See link for basic details. For interested parties, you may also contact me on here.

I sent you a mail about that.

Wojciech Gruchała, designer for our Commander base class, has been added to this project to design character campaign background traits.

We also introduce Wayne Canepa, long time friend and GM, will be designing what we call achievement traits for the basic training portion of the AP.

Achievement traits will be rewarded to PCs as they accomplish tasks in basic training. A certain number of achievements must be completed to finish basic training to become a soldier of the Thaddeus Military.

Thaddeus? Thaddeus is the militaristic city-state where the PCs call home in the beginning of the AP.

Traits are turned in.
Half the archetypes are in.
Players guide almost complete.

Art preview up on the FB page, as well as a link to buy a "war bond" to help fund a print run of the first AP.
The War Bond also has instructions to gain the first part of the AP at a discounted price with it comes. (October)

Nice!

Lord, what I would do for a proper art budget...

Sovereign Court

I like the idea. It's been way too long since I saw anything good on this kind of subjects.

What kind of environment are we talking about ?
standard medieval ? renaissance ? antiquity ?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Low to standard medieval fantasy, with Greco-Roman influence of the City-States.
Easily incorporated into your own favored world or setting.

Snip from players guide(unedited):

The city states of Thaddeus and Wellmet have a long history of a love hate relationship. Each founded by one of the twin sons of the tyrant Warlord Titus Pylos XVII, the God-King Slayer.

The city state of Thaddeus takes its name from the founder, Thaddeus Pylos, whose decedents have seen it prosper over the last century from a farming community deflecting raids from nomadic tribes to a military city-state. This militaristic empire claims the territory that is located in the center of the fertile land of the Vinash Plains. Its location in the plains allows it to control the overland trade routes that connect from the Phoenix Empire of the bamboo forest of the northwest, to the routes of the exotic merchants that travel from the southern city states of the Red Lotus Empire. It’s this position that makes it act as the western guard and gatekeeper to travelers making their way to the wealthy city-state of Wellmet.

The sister city founded by the Titus’s other twin son, Aeon, is the metropolis of Wellmet that acts as an epicenter of culture, trade and learning of the free city-states. These two cities share a co-dependence that relies on a pendulum of trust/distrust that started with deceitful brothers of House Pylos and is carried on by their respective governments to this day. These two great city-states host as the backdrop for this Prepare for War Adventure Path.

In that light of the above, there will also be some "suggested rules" for different things. Such as:

Divine Healing (mechanics still being worked/decided on):
:
Recommend divine healing rules of this world setting follow a different set of rules. Deities of this world only heal those that are their followers, or that are citizens of the city they are a patron of.

In this case, Damocles will only give the divine ability to chaplains only when they apply healing abilities or spells to followers of Damocles or citizens of Thaddeus. If a PC or NPC is not a follower of Damocles, the chaplain will not be able to heal their wounds. If the character is of Thaddeus citizenship but not a follower of Damocles, he will still heal them, as he is the patron deity and hopes these blessings will turn the receiver of the healing towards his faith.

Chaplains can heal others not of citizenry or faith of patron deity, but at the cost of sacrificing themselves. They must expend twice the number of channel energy or cure spell slots to heal the heathen, and reduce the die used by one step (1d8 becomes 1d6, 1d6 becomes 1d4, etc). This also causes the chaplain to become fatigued for 1d6 rounds.

That mechanic seems to hurt diversity in parties, does it not?

John Stout wrote:

It should not, as all party members are assumed citizens of the Thaddeus Empire. To be apart of the military which this is set in, the person in question must be a citizen. So all PCs assumed in this part of the AP are citizens of the Empire. WhIch they would heal normally.

But as mentioned, it is still in beta review and unedited. I do agree some mechanics should be adjusted.

If the GM and PCs choose not to use this rule, that is fine as well. Its an optional rule, not a mandatory rule. And if the group's choice is not to use it, it does not alter the adventure. It's mostly a world flavor.

We are doing a 'War Bonds" bundle. Those that participate get a shout out in the credits and will receive a discount on the first AP pdf edition.
Details on our facebook page.
And mentioned on Roleplayer's Chronicle.

War bonds bundle... nice. A very clever title. : )

Is the bundle live? Got a link?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Divine Healing mechanics sound awesome! Very flavorful and it reigns in the "I picked this deity just to get X, Y, & Z".

Note: I'm all for players picking abilities & the character they want, but if they are going to pick a deity that isn't prominent in the campaign region, they should feel like a bit of an outsider rather than expecting the GM to increase the prominence of their selected deity just to accommodate the player's choice. This seems like a nice mechanical way to reinforce the setting's canon/lore. More importantly, it also gives players of foreign/minor deities an incentive to spread the faith!

Right Here.

BPorter wrote:

It also kind of goes with the Greco-Roman influence this campaign has. Patron deities of city states. Athens = Athena, etc.

Drejk, listed above, has come up with some neat alternate mechanics that might work a little better, but still get the flavor across.

4 Days left to buy a war bond.
Bundle ends on 9/30/13
When you buy a war bond, send us a message on Facebook or at our email address. Or even post or PM us here.

What does the war bond get you? 10 of our top rated products for half the price. In addition when you contact us, we will ask you for information on where to send the special War Bond discounted price for the PDF edition of the first part of Prepare for War AP.

PDF Edition only? That is correct. It will be a special 75% off discount if you buy a war bond and let us know.

PDF edition. You are dodging something. Does this mean a print edition is also on the way? Yes it does. This will be our first print product. It will be available at first as a PDF and Print on Demand. As the sales increase (crosses fingers) we will do a print run so that you can get yourself a hardcopy.

When will the PDF be available? Our goal date is October 15, 2013. (Artwork order pending). If all else fails we will do a PDF and when final artwork comes in, we will update the PDF. Then make POD and Print available.

Support the war. Buy a war bond.

Last day for a 'War Bond'.
We have sold several. Kind of awesome.

Part 1 should hit the PDF stands Tuesday.

Minor production delay. Release has been pushed back to 10/20.

We are getting close to publishing. Waiting on our final cover art. We do have a question.

Would you like to see the player's character primer as part of the first Adventure Path book (slightly increased price), or as a separate book for Prepare for War (Two books at a lower price, but have the option to get both)?

Adventure Path Book, would included the adventure only.
Players Primer Book, would included information on character creation, the new archetypes, feats, traits, etc.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Are the new pieces of crunch mandatory to run the module? Include it.

Are they not mandatory? Don't. Generally, it's nicer to be able to hand a pdf to players and say "read this, no spoilers in here" rather than having to photocopy/print individual chapters.

Agreed.

Two books seems to be the consensus.

*cough-cough*

Yes, yes. The players guide is out.

It is looking like part 1 of the AP will be basic training (ETA 1 to 2 weeks. The goal is one week). Lower priced for convenience. Then 2 and 3, and 4..... 2 & 3 will need the reporting system. I should have that in place by that time. That is another cause of the delays.

BTW Mike Myler is writing a plug in adventure for this path...just throwing that out there.

I suppose I can reveal my humble contribution: some traits and Iron Fist commander archetype.

Working through the servers: Free player's guide edition "declassified" is everything you need to start for free. Does not contain traits, archetypes, or feats.

Since Declassified is out for free, this question is for anyone that has downloaded it:

Is there an interest for a supplement on the Feral?
Or would you prefer to see it as an article within the AP?

We had a brief hard drive crash, but are now back up and running. You should see the AP start to trickle in soon.
