How Long Will Early Enrollment (EE) Last Before Open Enrollment?

Pathfinder Online

I'm not asking for the calendar dates, just how long it's planned for when it starts.

I remember a blog from a long time ago saying there would be nine months of adding a limit of 4,500 per month for nine months, if that's still on is that going to be the EE or something else?

Without specific dates I'm just curious about the timeframe for the alpha-EE-open transitions and timeframes.

CEO, Goblinworks

Our current plan is that we'll begin Early Enrollment in Q3 of 2014, and Open Enrollment in Q1 of 2016.

18 months of EE? I was expecting less. Not complaining, mind you :)

Great response time too, thanks. :o)

What kickstarter level would make it possible to begin tomorrow? ;)

I believe theoretically if we hit 200 billion, GW can put the extra money into advanced physics, thus possibly leading to the completion of time travel, and permitting future Ryan to bring back the finished product yesterday thus allowing launch tomorrow. Unfortunately in bad news, since if he had it yesterday he didn't tell us, we either inevitably fail to raise the 200 billion, or time travel to yesterday is impossible.

Or Future Ryan will be a jerk, steal the money, and twirl his mustache. Could go either way.

I think if we managed to put the spending from the US war department into science and technology research, we'd usher in the singularity where the code can write itself. Then the technology advances to a point that it may as well be magic, and we become transhuman beings able to play PFO in a virtual holodeck. Pretty impressive for a bunch of balding bonobos.

I have heard that medical science has predicted all males will be bald within a few hundred years.

The import of this indicates that bald/balding men are simply genetically advanced.

So wait... does this mean that all males that are a few hundred years old are highly likely to be bald?

Science!

It was the spending at the "US War Department" that we are typing on this thing, that Al Gore thinks he invented.

besides, 200 billion is peanuts, the US government spends that on "Roads to No Where"; Airports that no one uses; and Big Digs in Boston that no one asked for or needed.

Will be interesting to see how far the game will evolve in 18ish months. For some CCs to thrive (Mostly the Evil/Militant ones) there will need to be established kingdoms who will have need of their services. Will be interesting to see how long that takes to develop, and how far the questing (if there is any) will go while the settlements/kingdoms develop.

That and the fact that a lot of the aggressive behaviours wont be enabled to after EE.

You realize that by 'US Government' you mean 'We the People'. We elected the Congressmen who funded those. It wasn't the rank-and-file Federal employees that Congress is now taking a meatax to their paychecks.

But isn't the conversation getting a bit off track?

I'm sure we will find some way to keep ourselves busy.

Not exactly sure what you're asking?

My initial comment was a joke, but also an expression of my wish that this gme would come out sooner. An 18 month wait for EE is going to feel like an eternity.

I hope they have another Kickstarter to help move the EE sooner, perhaps 12 months away or sooner.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm almost 100% certain there won't be another kickstarter. But they have announced plans to have some form of additional donations once the last kickstarter is resolved.

According to current physics models time travel is possible but to go backwards you'd need to build an anchor for that end of the wormhole through timespace to connect to from the future. A more worthy pursuit than the network layer? Crowdforging poll incoming!

I actually favorited it for the "twirling mustache" image, which is very strongly associated in my mind with Blaeringr. As we all know, I'm just Blaeringr in disguise, too :)

I stumbled upon this old post the other day, and it made me feel quite nostalgic. From way back in January of 2012, my 7th post ever, and oddly enough in response to KitNyx :)

From Combat Mechanics (OT / DT), Content Instancing, XP and a beta I'd pay for:

It's wonderful just having the chance to impact the design of the game by posting on these forums, and I sincerely hope that all the regular posters quickly get to recognize my name. And yes, I'm shamelessly trying to better my chances at being invited into that first group of 4,500.

1970, the year of UNIX. Pan American offered the first 747 flight to Heathrow from JFK. Black Sabbath made their debut concert. Japan launched it first satellite. Richard Nixon signed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act into law, banning cigarette television advertisements in the United States. And Nihimon was born.

I will somehow make it into EE......I hope. That 18 month window will be a real ball!

18 months...

goodness...

Think what an amazing world we could make with this relatively small number of people in that amount of of time...

I'm going to be a happy little community networker.

A 'head' of his time, eh?

That one hurt so much I'm going to have to invent the ACE Turban.

So the original information offered @ the time of the kickstarter was I believe approx 9 months?

9 months of forced pay to beta test thats now stretched out to 18 months?

How is this not another example of the bait n switch smoke and mirrors used to con a bunch of dupes into contributing to the kickstarter?

It could be as little as 12 months and one day, or as long as 18 full months. Either way I'll be playing it. You certainly do not need to, unless you want to. Sounds like you don't want to, and that is fine too.

I'll look at it as "Twelve to eighteen months to create a world! Cool! Let's see what I can do?!"

I probably won't make it into EE, but I'm looking forward to seeing what people have set up by the time I get in. My playstyle is generally "bumble around and hope to run into friends", so coming in late may well suit me. ;D

You've heard of MMOs right? They "may change during gameplay"...

@Summersnow

I get it, you don't want to be duped. You have now made that abundantly clear. Got it.

You are excellent at focusing on certain statements, but your razor-like focus misses other statements that have bearing upon the statements that you are choosing to focus on. The upside is that GW has been transparent at every step of the process, so you can actually check these sorts of claims. The quote Nihimon mentions above is only one such instance of other statements having bearing on the statements you are choosing to focus on.

Quite true.... Ryan Dancey himself, came to my home and put the point of a long sword at my throat and forced me to pay $400.00 on my Kickstarter package...... Oh wait, nope that didn't happen, not to me and not to anyone else.

Unlike other beta test, which I have done several dozen, our characters will not be wiped. Our characters will have possibly 18 months of skill training, before the first day if general admission. We will have established Chartered Companies, Settlements, Wealth, Power and Influence. We will also have knowledge of all of the systems in the game.

I'm actually planning on upping my pledge by another $150.00 to include 3 x 3 month subs and a few extras.

Goblin Squad Member

Several dozen are quite a lot of betas. I feel I've done alot of betas, and I don't think I can count half that for mine.

If I tried to list them all, I'd forget a few I'm sure. But the list would include every major MMO since 2003 (but not including EvE which I started in 2004).

For one thing it's been stated that you don't have to use your kickstart time during Early Enrollment. Indeed it was a benefit that they gave to lower pledges to enter EE. You get the game and can start playing pretty much whenever you want with EE as the earliest possible date. The longer run time of EE actually makes me feel a bit better. It means that they realize that there will be bugs, exploits, and "features" that were unintended and take a while to both surface and fix. If that process gets rushed it often produces even more problems.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm honestly content with the EE, if it takes longer. The players that do enroll will have a really great game to be privileged to enjoy and redeem their good faith in backing. :)

There are also almost certainly strong reasons for why EE would take longer given the design goals of PFO (weekly updates, networking requirements ie Unity is the "beating heart" ofthe middleware and the actual design ambitions and finally the development of the community/social structures and iterating live of).

Afterall: "Rome wasn't built in a day".

Very likely all the games that Summersnoow makes have always been released on time, never have unforeseen problems and are always free. /sarcasm

I like the "forced to pay" bit. Makes me think of a black van pulling up outside his house, Ryan, Stephen and the rest of the GW guys wearing masks getting out with ropes, chains, thumbscrews coming to collect the EE money :P "Vee come for zee money"

Off-topic: Someone really needs to invent a sarcasm marker, like ~I just loooove trolls~ or something.

On-Topic: 18 month headstart = setting up my logging business with no barriers to entry, getting in good with the local protection company, starting in the best area, establishing a reputation as a good supplier, well on the way to maxing a gatherer archetype.....

~Who would want any of that. Especially not for the same price you are going to be paying when the game is 'released' to everybody else~
