Redesign Cursed Items and their removal

Homebrew and House Rules

Silver Crusade

I enjoy throwing in a cursed item every now and then but I find they are too easy to remove. A simple Remove Curse spell and the item is gone the next day without the PC having to go through the pain of it's effects. I would rather see some kind of alternative method of removing the item. I mean if the item can be removed with a simple spell then why bother having it?

In my opinion that is simply one of the challenges that stop being an issue some levels in the game and/or with availiabity to magic.

The same could be said about disease, surviving in the wild, and many enviromental hazards.
Magic simpy changes what is an issue, and what is not.

However, I think cursed items to some degree works despite that. Several of them doesn't come into effect before you actually use them, or at a very inappropriate time.

I am all for alternative methods of removing curses/cursed items. But made by the GM rather than the rules themselves. If another removal method was a part of the cursed item in the book, it could quickly feel as mechanical as casting a spell.

How do they know it is cursed?

I'm with Vod here. Identifying a cursed item is kind of difficult to do.
