Collected physical versions

Hi there. I enjoy all of the fiction but I hate reading things on my PC and phone (I dont have a kindle/Nook/whatever and have no interest in getting one). So I was wondering if there is any chance of ever having the various epub and web fiction stories collected into physical books?

There are no current plans, but it's not out of the question!

Thank you for the reply Mr.Wertz! I will continue hoping just in case!

Diego, if you want to see the Web Fiction stories in physical books, then drum up support for the product. Paizo is really good about listening to what their customers want. If they know that people will buy a dead-tree collected set of short stories, then they will produce it. But they won't do it if they don't think that the customers will buy it. Warehouse space costs too much.

A year ago, I would have jumped on board and said that I would buy this; now, I'm not going to crusade for it. I've been enjoying the ability to read books on my iPod touch while bottle feeding my daughter or waiting to get on a plane.

However, if they collected the Web Fiction into a dead-tree book and sold as part of the Pathfinder Tales subscription, I certainly would buy it (meaning I would not stop or pause my subscription for it).

Before I worked at Paizo, I wanted a compiled, printed book of the Eando Kline Pathfinder's Journal fiction (that was later released digitally as "The Compass Stone"). So I used the PDFs I'd received as part of my AP subscription and pulled all the text out. I put it in a Microsoft Word document, and then had a single copy of that printed on-demand at Lulu.com. It enabled me to read the (at the time) only complete Pathfinder fiction on the bus and subway while commuting to work, without needing to bring my large-format AP books and risk getting them all bent up. You can see the book and Sutter's reaction to it in this blog post from way back in 2009.

Now, I put in quite a few hours formatting the Word document so it looked right, so it wasn't as simple as just picking up a pre-printed book, but my point is that if you want to read the material in a physical format, there are ways you can make such from the content in the format we've already released it.

Note, however, that any printed material you make would need to be for personal use only and couldn't be distributed. (Just need to make sure that's clear here; we're not advocating anything beyond you putting what we've released into a format that's easier for you to consume.)

I just checked out that blog post. That. is. awesome.

Turns out, Mark's superfan status eventually landed him a job, but he definitely spent a while before that proving just how crazy he is. That book was a perfect example. :)

Hello again guys!

Itchy, Im glad you would not stop your subscription. Im not likely to crusade for it. Id like to see the stories in dead tree form so I can read them, but if not thats ok, Im glad others can enjoy them digitally.

Mr. Moreland, that is amazing! Thank you for the suggestion, I may try that out and see what I can come up with. It would, of course, be for my personal use only, though I appreciate that you needed to clarify that.

Silver Crusade

I am interested in buying the Pathfinder Tales that were epublished but I don’t want to buy something without a physical copy. If a physical version ever does come out I for one would buy it. (Just Sayin)

i would purchase a hardcopy of a collection of pathfinder web fiction in a heartbeat. i don't like reading books in electronic format. i work all day on computers, and when i get home, i like to literally unplug and curl up with a nice (paper) book.
sidenote: anyone else out there get annoyed at the term "dead-tree version"? it just strikes me as very... condescending (no offense to anyone, i doubt it was intended in that manner).

I'm sorry. I didn't mean it to be condescending. I love books. In fact I've spent most of my adult life working in book stores.

no worries. like i said, i didn't think it was intended in that manner. i was just curious if i was the only person out there who didn't like the term.

I use the term "dead-tree" version often. I never intend it to be condescending, but rather use it as a more interesting and flavorful way to describe physical books. If I am found offensive, then I apologize.

I love real, quality books. I especially love them if they are pretty AND have good info within them.

Shadow Lodge

I would love a collected addition of the web fiction and AP short stories. Some of my favorite sword and sorcery books are short story collections. So pretty pretty please, come on everyone show your support for this. I know there are more of you out there that want this.

Sovereign Court

As a subscriber, I would not feel it unreasonable to have a collected edition included in the Tales subscription. It would probably have a higher page-count than a typical release, which might assuage any doubters.

If that makes it easier to release, I'm all for it.

I would be interested in a collated, curated, and collected version of Pathfinder fiction not already in novel form. Including the fiction from the APs would be a great way to actually get to read them without angering any DMs (not to mention buying APs you have no intention of using...)

Scarab Sages

I'd be down for such a compilation or two.

I have read the first 15 pathfinder tales and I love them. I really appreciate once a year a collection of best Web tales in the same format as part of my subscription.

Liberty's Edge

I add my vote for a once-a-year collection of the best Web tales as part of my subscription. Getting them in paper would make for one awesome Christmas present... just saying.
