Is it really so different to deal with that "previous training" through in-game play rather than saying it was done before you start?

Say 6 points, these would show the type of things you were doing as growing up.

Also the stats should matter vs skills,
Maybe only 1% but should matter, High Str should allow more damage, Dex better dodge,
and so on.

At this point the stats are there so you can call it a RPG, and have a tacked on system to give them meaning.

Sad design choice.

Sounds like you missed a few pieces of information.

Because of the licensing terms of the Open Gaming License (OGL) they cannot legally reproduce some systems of D20 PnP games, so they have to interpret and express those mechanics differently. This has resulted in a system where your stats don't directly affect the power of your attacks or the level of spell you can cast but instead govern how quickly you can acquire skills related to those stats. So if you have a high INT score you will be able to gain magical abilities faster than if you had a low INT score.

My guess how that can work is that if you have an 18 INT score it costs you less XP to pick up magic missile or whatever that spell will be called thanif your INT was only 12. Since XP accumulates over time rather than through things you do in game, you would get your spell earlier than someone else with a lower INT score.

Of course it isn't just the XP accumulated that actually enables a skill, but instead it qualifies you for that skill and there will be something you have to accomplish in the game that would actually grant it.

Sometimes our expectations get in the way of appreciating what we do have. Recommend keeping an open mind, because it just might work out fine, and it is possible it may work out even better than what we are accustomed to.

Wasn't this recently changed? I thought XP gain was ability neutral now, with all feats adding to an ability score and certain feats having ability prerequisites (i.e., being an "intelligent" character means doing many "intelligent" things).

XP gain is ability neutral, yes. Enough xp enables you to choose what ability you wish to apply it to. Then you do something to activate the ability you chose to apply your xp to.

Hi, really exited about having certain abilities only available at some settlements, and those settlements able to select the price for the training.

I would love to see this taken to the next level though:

Give settlements the ability to issue quests, that the players can undertake, for which the reward would be some form of special currency, unique for each settlement, which the players can then use for training.

The quests should all be beneficial to the settlement.
They could be simple (give x crafting materials), more advanced (have random different enemy creatures spawn around the settlement, from which the settlement gets some bonuses based on how low their number is, so they must issue kill quests for creatures that are increasing in numbers) or more elaborate quests, like go to mine/tower/etc kill boss, return special item, settlement gets item, players get training tokens/currency.

The last part might me a little too difficult to implement, but I think the first two are fairly easy, and would add a lot to the living/sandbox feeling of the game.

Warmest greetings to all!

I'm stepping in brand new here with my first post and hope someone sees it. (I realize no one has commented on this thread in over 2 months!) but regarding Destiny's Twin:

I don't have it. I completely missed the Kickstarter. I discovered this upcoming game just within the past couple weeks by searching online for a new game to enjoy and I'm very excited to be joining the Pathfinder online community in eager anticipation of the game's eventual launch.

But does anyone know if Destiny's Twin will be available for purchase via Skymetal or any other way?
It represents such a wonderful advantage in so many ways that I will be terribly disappointed to play Pathfinder without it. If anyone has any good news or ideas for a humble latecomer eager to enjoy what benefits he can scrape up I'd love to know what I can do!

And BTW - IF GW launches another Kickstarter I will POUNCE on the opportunity to contribute and hopefully pick up Destiny's Twin as well as join the Goblin Squad (and grab whatever other perks I can!) But that could be a long shot. They may not need another Kickstarter. If they do they may not offer Destiny's Twin as a benefit.

Thanks in advance for whatever reassurance anyone may provide!
Now I'm off to look into joining a settlement!

Welcome Serighon! Nice to see a new face with such a great interest in PFO. https://goblinworks.com/blog/ There is a lot of info there if you don't already know it.

Goblin Works has promised to have some options for people to get into Early Enrollment and other goodies, later this year. As for Destiny's Twin, the latest hints are that it will not be available. That is speculation though and has not been fully confirmed, to my knowledge.

I too missed the kickstarter but found a kindly Guild Master to invite me in. There is still that possibility, for you too, and there are threads herein about that.

Look around and post your thoughts. All ideas are welcome. :)

@Serighon

Welcome to the forums discussions are often robust but generally flame free so don't worry about diving in.

You may find if you ask that someone may be able to squeeze you in on their pledge by getting an upgrade...not quite sure of the mechanics so maybe someone who is will clarify.

As to CC's and settlements Nihimon maintains a list somewhere, while it is rumoured that if you shout his name three times he pops up in the thread I have heard that he takes the weekend off

Oh and by all means jump into the regular TS meets

Ah found it CC's and settlements list

This question has been asked a lot. The best answer we have so far is that, even if they don't offer it for free, you'll be able to pay for it.

I have a Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list that I hope people find useful.

Can you point me at where you're seeing that? The last I recalled was that DT would likely not be available for the same reasons Lifetime subs wouldn't. It's a terrible business proposition.

Goblin Squad Member

@Dario, Destiny's Twin allows you to train a 2nd character for free. If they don't offer it again for free, you'll still be able to pay to train a 2nd character.

I'm not saying you'll be able to buy "Destiny's Twin". I'm saying you'll be able to pay to get the same* effect.

* - the effect is actually slightly better because there's a good possibility we won't be able to log in our Destiny's Twin at the same time as our main.

Goblin Squad Member

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. =P I was misreading.

I'm glad you're around to keep me on my toes :)

Also, it looks like Destiny's Twin will not allow you to have both characters actually logged into the game at the same time. If you pay for the second character, you can.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

We are unlikely to offer Destiny's Twin again.

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks for the confirmation Ryan. I can see a few reasons, that make sense, for you to choose to go that route.

Goblin Squad Member

Ah well. It's ludicrously early to be worrying about alts anyway! My ranger will have plenty to do for a long time! I am certain I will not be "terribly dissappointed" about Anything regarding this game!

And I am now a proud new member of the Keepers of the Circle!
Huzzah!

Oh and BTW:

Thank you Nihimon for the link! Everything you're doing is brilliant and very appreciated. I have your page saved to favorites!
