The Tournament of Kings and Feast of Fools.

Pathfinder Online

So an Idea poped into my twisted little cranium today. In the kingmaker adventure path there was a tournament Rushlight I think. Competition where all nearby kingdoms send a champion to fight for the honor of their homelands.
Could we not implement some friendly competition in PFO? A small wager or funds collected by all participating factions followed by any side bets by individuals. probably dwindle to the top 3 contestants 1st place will recieve 60 of funds for thier home 2nd will recieve 30 third will recieve 10. if the communal pot is 1,000,000 gold per kingdom entry and 10 kingdoms compete. well you do the math. It would only be curtius for the champion to recieve 5% of their returning glory for themselves.

Although talking entry fees at this stage is a bit like the cart before the horse, I really like this idea.

For the short time I played WoW I really enjoyed the in-game analog to October-fest, and would really like to see events of this nature in PfO.

Of course, I'd like to see events that pertained to the River Kingdoms and Golarion as a whole (which I believe the Inner Sea World Guide provides at least some names and dates).

I don't know whether this would be a pre-scripted/setup system, but there is no reason that players couldn't set things like this up.

In fact that is the whole point of the sandbox setting is for players to be able to do thins like this.

This brings up a semi-related questions. For settlements and laws, I wonder if it will be possible to set laws based on areas of a settlement. For example, you could designate a part of a settlement that has no laws against killing etc so you could orchestrate something like this without worrying about flags and the like.

There should be plenty of events, but they should all be player planned. Saying that, players should use the lore of the game world to create as many player events as possible; holidays, feasts, jousting and archery tournaments, festivals, musical concrets...all that will be great fun. Even evil folks can come to the events that are all comers, and we all get to see who cannot resist fighting during the festival!

Although, I do see these mechanics as being pretty low priority in the first year or so. Rolling out tournament fields to build and festival tents and fireworks to craft will be slow to create die to the priorities of routine game mechanics coming first.

I've heard rumors of player run carnivals traveling from town to town setting up such festivities. Would be awesome if that would be true.

I think that having NO scripted events would severely break immersion, no NPCs would partake in the festivities and there would be lots of stuff you simply couldn't accomplish as a player.

I certainly think the emphasis should be on player made events.

Ooh! Idea! Settlements and/or kingdoms could define a local holiday, throw in some parameters and boom, npcs get involved, decorations are put up, etc.

should be a mix of both premade events by the GMs and player-made and run events. Possibly players could suggest events and the GMs could make it happen.

And I seriously hope for arenas for PvP.

In the kickstarter, one of the benefits to people who contributed at the alpha level will have the opportunity to play monsters (under GM supervision)in special events in game.

That tells be there will be official events as well as anything players organize.

There is an arena in Thornkeep featuring a "Pit Fight Arena"....but I guess we'll have to get a bit stronger to get there to fight.

The good news is I have read they will be releasing a test of the Pit Fight Arena this fall with pre-made characters to test out the combat system and different characters strengths and weaknesses. Should be fun.

It would be awesome to build your own arena. catch monsters and let people fight for thier lives or pit monster vrs monster and sit back taking bets. a portion of the betting could go to the economy of the settlement. (income woohoo) it would also make sense for a small traveling groups of experts and bards to be a carnivalish band of adventurers. ( i ran a setting alot like that a long time ago/ strong man berzerker. fire eater sorcerer. bearded lady female dwarf rouge. the wolf boy a halfling child with werewolf disease.) you can imagine how it worked out.
