Liberty's Edge

V/H/S is a found-footage style film. Personally, I'm a big fan of these, but I understand how many might be put off by yet another one. The cool thing about this movie is that it's a series of stories in the vein of Tales from the Dark Side. I went into this one having no idea what it was about, just that it was a horror film, and found myself very pleasantly surprised by just how good it is.

Overall, surprisingly well made for a low-budget flick, and the acting--with the exception of one tale, which suffers from dialogue issues, and another one, which seems to suffers from a huge dose of reductio ad absurdum that's eventually resolved, both of which are nonetheless saved by the coolness of the ideas (you'll know it when you see it)-- actually comes off as realistic and genuine.

At any rate, if you hate found-footage films, you'll probably hate this one too. If you like them, or are still neutral, give it a shot.

huh...I just asked about this in the "Ask James Jacob" thread after watching the movie on netflix last night.

There are 2.5 stories in it that are really good. The 2nd is suitably creepy and actually is a pretty effective use of found footage (which too often translates as "excuse for cheapness" The second I think is also directed by Ty West, whose House of the Devil is an awesome horror movie

The 4th story amps the creepiness with some just WTF weirdness. Also it is told in the format of a skype chat, which was a cool angle I haven't seen before.

The first story was the .5. I loved the ending, and observant fans of mythology folklore will appreciate the little nods in the story. I give it a .5 because the main character are utter douchebags, and having just come off from seeing the opening part of the wrap around (which similarly features eminently punchable characters), it made it a bit hard to endure.

The final story is average...some nice effects but nonsensical character decisions hurt the story. The third story was just random and bad, although again, the effects used for the killer were cool? Story made sense however. The Wrap around was neat, but could have been tightened...we did not need to see that much jackass behavior to get that they are creeps.

I am not a huge fan footage, since I think it is a very hard genre to pull off, but this wasn't bad
