My next project - Dragon Mountain

I was bored looking at my game shelf and the Dragon Mountain box set from 2nd ed caught my eye.

So I'm gonna rework this for Pathfinder.

Liberty's Edge

Ive often thought about doing the same thing. The biggest disconnect I have with it, is everytime I try to imagine The Dragon and still have Kobolds be a threat to characters of suficient level to handle it. Interested to see your take on it.

I'm reading the module and taking notes, I think it's gonna start at a LVL 8 - 10

I'll probably be giving Kobolds class levels and have a few "Generics" then adjust weaponry/tactics like Paizo did with the monks from the Ruby Phoenix Tourny module.

Absolutely worth converting. Kobolds are more about draining party resources and presenting moral quandries than always being a consistent threat.

We're in Dragon Mountain right now and had an encounter this weekend with Infyrana foreshadowing the final showdown. We had left the forge survivors for a few minutes to collect corn from the nearby field to feed them & had to rush back to rescue them suddenly...unfortunately found the beast awaiting us, lording over their corpses.

Spring attack fighter buddy charged in, so I had to send my tank fighter in to help. Am glad to say we survived 3 rds in melee 'til a well placed ice wall allowed me to drag him out. It took a hero point + a very good wizard friend at the other end of the room, but we live for now. I had only a mere 6 HP left out of 129 at that point, but made it out still on my feet.

Understand this mod is responsible for a lot of TPK's over the years & see why. Any party unfortunate enough to come across her without foreknowledge and fully prepared is in for a rough ride. Will be very surprised if our GM doesn't use melt stone on us next time--if we cannot avoid her.

Are you running it PF, or 2e?

Pathfinder.

Liberty's Edge

The Quandry really boils down to choice-

Convert Infyrana as she is in the Module-

Great Wyrm Red Dragon Cr 22

or to tailor her level back to match the level of the adventure where she should be written up instead of a Great Wyrm- (party should be 15th at the end...so she shouldnt be higher than a CR19 which would make her an Ancient Dragon instead...cr 19

Liberty's Edge

I'm very interested in this. Has any work been done on it?

I still have that box-set and everything in it. :)
Now I feel old. :D

I would love to see some notes on this I ran it a few times in 2e.

Dotting for interest. I've got way too much antique gaming material that deserves air time one of these years.

Saw this thread several months ago and hoped something would come of it. Count me in with those who would *love* to reap the fruits of someone's conversion labors. Great module.

Dark Archive

Dang now I want to start converting it..... hmmm

In the 3.5 splat book "Cityscape" they listed something about human mobs. Give it a Pathfinder upgrade and change it to kobolds, then I think it could have a little more teeth and challenge Pathfinder PCs......
