Cavalier, His mount and Leadership-feat

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

A player of mine stumbled onto possibility to use leadership-feat to get a nice mount to his cavalier.

My understanging of the rules is that the cohort does not replace class ability, i.e. cohort is not eglible for the same upgrades per level or other similar stuff like the class ability mount does. Though the cavalier can ride either his mount or cohort.

Can anyone confirm or refute my interpretation?

Your mount will advance with class levels. A character with leadership qualifies for a better cohort as his leadership score rises. In the case of a cohort used as a mount, the character will have to retire it and find a more powerful one, if it cannot gain hit dice or class levels.
