Wanderer Monk

Advice

Thoughts on it?

How about pairing it with weapon adept?

this is for PFS

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The exotic weapon not gaining the "monk" property for you annoys me, though you can use it to get proficiency in a monk weapon because hilariously Monks aren't proficient in all monk weapons like Unarmed Fighters are.

That aside, I like the flavor and theme but a lot of the abilities don't seem very useful. I'd just go Weapon Adept (and Qinggong, but that's always assumed) if you were set on Monk.

I like it, it's an interesting archetype and very thematic.

Inspire courage as a swift action at lvl 7 is a real gem. A monk that can actually hit something! Granted, the ki cost is steep...

I agree with chaoseffect.

What weapon do you have in mind?

o i have a staff wielder...it is a flavor thing...so i would probably take languages instead of an exotic weapon...though maybe i would take longbow just to have it.

i was looking at wanderer because of the character is kind of that wanderering monk with nothing but his quarterstaff. i played him last night (I can still rebuild once) He would lose dodge and gain a language or a weapon prof for one game then retake dodge at level 2

On that note any thoughts on languages for PFS. He starts with common and Varisian (he is Varisian) and already has +1 due to Int

Optimized he is not! Eventually I want to get him the Quarterstaff of Vaulting.

Take a look at eastern weapons. My personal favorite is the double chained kama, which is 2 handed monk reach weapon.

"Far Traveler": first/fourth/eighth level: bonus language; level 12: EWP: Katana (probably level 12) and buy a blade of the sword saint(or forge it yourself with Master Craftsman & Craft Magic A&A and even higher bonusses).

There you are: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

No date co-workers. Bad idea.

The Sansetsukon is probably the best one. 2 handed, 1d10, 19-20 crit. Play a Tiefling with over-sized limbs (Variant Trait 16) for some 2d6 fun. In terms of raw damage it really doesn't get better. You can't Perfect Strike with it unfortunately.

It's still really dumb that the Unarmed Fighter is proficient in all Monk weapons but the Monk is not.
