Behind the grand, filigreed building sits a little prefabricated steel shack, about ten by twelve feet in size. A sign--black Sharpie pen on cardboard--is taped to the door and reads "Welcome, alternates! We have cookies and punch."
Inside are four beanbag chairs and a little card table holding a tray of cookies (Hydrox, no brand names) and a punchbowl.
Hey folks. I figured I'd give us a place to hang out while the Top 32 have their moment in the sun.
On a more serious note, I PMed Sean K. Reynolds and Vic Wertz about the email we received and our inability to submit an archetype despite the letter telling us to do so. Sean replied and said he'd look into it soon and let me know.
I suppose we could start by sharing the items that earned us our positions as alternates.

I would wait for showing your items just in case you get called upon, if that happens, we will see them anyway.
If it doesn't happen at round 2 deadline, I will certainly come in here and review them like I am doing for the Top 32 - if you want me to that is. (But it will of course be after I have finished the Top 32 first :D).

Since we Dedicated Voters were excluded from the big boys club, can we hang with you guys if we bring our own chairs? I also have a meat and cheese tray that I picked up on my way over!
Sounds fine to me. Not much space in here, so we'll have to leave the door open...I think I've got some camping chairs stowed away somewhere that we can set up.

No need for alternates to hide out back. As you'll see in the Guildhall OP, alternates are invited to post there. You guys have to submit Round 2 entries, after all, which is just as much participation as sixteen of the Top 32 will get this year.
(That being said, this thread is a nice place for Star, Dedicated, and Marathon voters to hang out, and for discussions of the alternates' entries. So I'll take my leave and return you guys to your regularly scheduled hang-out.)

The alternates should be able to submit their archetypes, Chris is checking to make sure you can.
As for showing your items, I'm waiting to hear back from Vic on that. :)
Thanks for checking on that for us, Sean.
Edit: Seeing the submit button now instead of the other message. Mission accomplished.

Huh. I wonder if that means that liking one over the other as a kid was an actual difference in taste, or just prejudice. I know people still try to tell me that all M&Ms taste the same, but I know the green ones are better.

Right! Who's up for a wee sharp one? I know I need it. Bah. Who needs filigree anyway. Love what you've done with the place by the by.

If Cayden's tray of endless shots can deliver Jack Daniel's I might consider converting.
Thinking about it, since the Top 32 have been announced, and everyone else is sharing their items, it wouldn't be breaking any rules for us to do so. After all, if one of the Top 32 bows out or doesn't submit an archetype for whatever reason, then one of we four are going in. Our item will go up for people to see anyway.
I'll still hold off until we hear from Vic, but I'd like to see more of the company I'm keeping.

Ah, so those were yours, eh? Those were some of my favorite items. If I read between the lines right :)
Yes, yes they were. Thank you Cheapy, that warms the ol' heart.I am really looking forward to getting critiqued on these, I had such a good feeling about them. Must have buried the lead pretty deep there.
Anyway, I jury-rigged this tray from all the drinking items lying around in the pile, and I'm pretty sure it delivers whatever poison ya need.
Which reminds me of those glasses which made being drunk a powerfully insightful thing, confirming what all good boozers know: after the 4th beer, the world's problems are for you to solve ;-)

I just wanted to stop by on my way to the guildhall and congratulate you guys on your accomplishment. I entered this contest five times, before finally getting to the top 32 on the 6th try. I never made alternate either.
The top 32 get all the glory and you guys have to wait for us to even see your awesome items. Please realize that you guys missed the mark only by the thinest of margins. The judges didn't love my item this year as much as some. On a different day, I could have been sent here while one of you guys could have been sent over there to get your fill of the filagree.
I'm not sure who did what, but I really liked the Summoning Siphon and the Scatterstep Boots. I'm not sure if I ever saw the Mantle of a Thousand Hands or the Norn Thread (I believe there were a couple thread items). I might recognize them by mechanics once I get to see them again, but I'm sure they're up there in quality with most of the top 32, or you wouldn't be here.
Anyway, great job guys, and though I intend on staying in for the long hall myself, I'll secretly be hoping that up to four of the other guys decide to drop out.

Oh!, hey there Floyd! Don't worry it is really comfortable in here!, we are having a great time, and since I just finished with a heavy amount of university workload I'm looking through all of the top32 awesomeness right now (I'll probably finish tomorrow though, as I am extremely exhausted, like -12 on Str/Dex, and almost asleep!).
It is a great honor to be an alternate (for me at least), it shows just how much I've grown in the last 3 years (this is my 3rd time entering the competition), from an Overpowered SIAC with a low English level, to an Overpowered Camping Item that still had problem in the description, into an item that was not only approved and voted by the community and the judges, but actually made it through as an alternate! It is quite an achievement for me, as I was worried about my plan to tackle at the game designing industry in the near future(either tabletop or video gaming), and this event really boosted up my self-esteem for it^^. I simply am curious as to what the judges had to say about my submission, as It was through their and the community's objective criticism and advice that I was able to improve, and I like to improve I always do, and there is always room to do so!
I really appreciate your visit and encouragement, and you are welcome to drop by here! Even if my crazy talk about Gintama scares people off, rest assured I don't bite!.
Are we still not allowed to tell which item we submitted?

Hi everyone
If we don't get to see your archetypes, then once I have done the item reviews, if you would like some feedback, feel free to PM me them. It may be a few days before I respond as I too am learning all about archetypes myself.
I can promise I will nail you on template, and hopefully provide some meaningful or helpful feedback should you so desire though.

Sounds great Anthony!, I don't know if we will be allowed to do so, though. I sent mine yesterday, and I had to choose among 4 archetypes, and went for my second favorites for a few reasons, but I am pleased with the Archetype I submitted ^^.
On a similar subject, I shared the news of Rpg Superstar with my gaming group in roll20, and they asked me if I could show them the item I submitted. Can we do that at all?
Now back to doing university work, so I can look at the other half of the Top32 this evening. The first half was really awesome, I had seen a few, but most of them never showed up for me... I could not even vote that much, as I had tons of work and studying to do for my university these days BUT I'm enjoying both, watching those I had already kept as favorites, and the awesome Items i hadn't seen. Most of these items would find a great place in the bags of many of my characters or NPCs ^^!.

Alternates - two years ago I was in the position you are in now. You have done just as much hard work as the top 32, but maybe your archetype will never even be revealed. I just wanted to stop by and say I know how you feel, and don't give up hope yet! Nobody was DQ'ed the year I was an alternate, but more than one alternate got bumped last year. There is still hope! And you will get personal feedback and encouragement from the judges either way, which will be valuable in honing your skills for future years.
Good luck!

Congratulations sidekicks. In many ways being this close is harder than be as far as us. Though to be honest the year after I got alternate was the hardest. You should be happy with what you got and I for one am glad so many of you are names I recognize as regulars.
Good luck, congratulations on completing R2. I wish you all luck and many cookies. :)

I'm not upset at all. My goal was to compete in the archetype round and that's precisely what I did. My greatest regret is that I didn't start on my archetype earlier. I had others in the works, but I challenged myself to create one appropriate for the River Kingdoms rather than just take one of the others and loosely tie it.
Whatever happens, I had a blast and enjoyed becoming a part of this community. Best luck to everyone.

The Mantle of a Thousand Hands was my creation. I'm afraid I don't recognize many others. I did most of my voting very early so most of the items I saw never made the cut.
