Midnight's the reveal time here in Israel, too... for the big Top 32 reveal, I wanted to pop in at a small cafe right by my house, take a cup of hot chocolate to go, and have it on hand to celebrate or console myself when the results came up. They close at midnight, and alas, 11:50pm proved to be cutting it too close even for hot chocolate.
Ziv, if you're ever at GenCon otber otherwise nearby, I'm good for that hot chocolate.
Good luck everyone. Back to work on those encounters!
You went to a shop 10 minutes before they were closing? You monster.
Good luck, everyone. Somehow, I don't think I'll be seeing you in the next round :)
I take it we can comment on our own monsters now?
Landon, since voting is closed, you are now free to comment! I hope, at least, because I already have. ;)
Yep, voting is closed, feel free to comment on your mon-stars. :)
Congratulations to the top eight! Time to blow us all away with your encounters.
Do I get to keep my filigree?
Congrats, Top 8! Fantastic monsters; I can't wait to see the encounters!
Congrats, everybody!
And at least I'll have time to go to the gym this week!
Congratulations Top 8!
Some part of me is actually relieved, I still have the opportunity to do this again, next year!

Congrats to the top 8 and thanks to everyone for a tough competition!
Of course I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't make it to the next round, but after all this was my first try, with a first magic item, a first archetype and a first monster for Pathfinder I've ever designed. So making it this far was awesome. I will try again next year with this experience and more practice under my belt, we'll see how far it will take me then.
I look forward to seeing what kind of encounters you guys have come up with.
Oh my gosh. I can hardly believe it. Everyone had such great entries!
Congratulations, all.
Also, did anyone else's email for the next round say we had to do a monster stat block? That threw me for a minute. :)
I am quite delighted to see first time designers making it into the running for RPG Superstar.
And I am jonesing to see what everyone has up their sleeves for the encounter round!

Kalervo that was me two years ago, keep it up and you'll definitely find success!
Its awesome and a little nerve wracking to make Top 8. If you slip up in this round you're done for good. I think they feed you to Treerazer or something. It has been quite a journey and I've enjoyed living it up among all the filigreed opulence of the guildhall.
Congratulations to my fellow Top 8 and to all this year's contestants. In my book you're all Vrockstars!
Congrats to the top 8, can't wait to read what you come up with for encounters.

I was in the same boat with regards to first time designing stuff and you beat me, so there's that. :)
Hopefully we'll all see each other again next year.
Wow, this is hard to believe. I don't want to play up my inexperience, but let's say I'm hardly a veteran at monster design. And basically all the entries looked strong to me! I feel lucky to be here. Major congrats to fellow Top 8! And to everyone :)
p.s. kind of glad I won't have to worry about this contest in future years. :D
Matthew Duval wrote: Also, did anyone else's email for the next round say we had to do a monster stat block? That threw me for a minute. :) Oops! That should say "an encounter with map," though the R4 rules do talk about stat blocks as well. Chris is going to send a followup email with a correction.
Sorry to scare you! :)

Congrats to my fellows. Seeing the quality of monsters and the rushed mistakes from me starting a new concept over, I'm wondering whether I should improve the entry that's almost ready, or do something different that feels cooler, but I has no time for. Who's with me? Let the insecurity begin! :b
Best of luck and have fun!
Sean K Reynolds wrote: Sorry to scare you! :) Nooooo! Make them do both! This is your opportunity to really tighten the screws on them! ;-)
It'll be interesting to see how many people make their own traps vs use a previously published one!
Bring it, but up the word count limit a bit to make room for both ;)

I just previewed my submission and the word count it is not showing, has anyone else had that problem? Plus, do we have to send the map by e-mail? I couldn't find an option to add the map...
The email address is in the round four rules. It's blue.
I've asked Chris to take a look at the word count thingamajig when she gets in to the office tomorrow. :)
Ross took a look at the word count tool and in seems to be working fine. Pedro, can you try it again?
Hi Sean, I figured out what happened. Since I was just using the submission tool to preview, I didn't bother entering the encounter name in the subject field. If the subject field is empty, the word count doesn't show.
Sorry to waste your and Ross' time. :P
And submitted!
Man, I feel more stressed out about this round than all the other rounds combined!
Well, from now on, if you are out, you are out forever!
So good luck
I became very ill this week and really panicked, so y stress level ws off the charts. But I took a lot of medication and finaly submitted last night. Here's hoping I was lucid. :b
Good luck to everyone!
I had the flu (for the first time in over 20 years) during the monster round last year. I had most of the work done on my monster, but I wanted to check my word count in the submission tool. In my addled state I hit 'submit' instead of 'preview' so I had to live with the work I had done to that point. :)
I agree with you, Nicholas. For me, this round was the most difficult of them all.
Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to seeing your encounters.

Today is Clark's birthday, so wish him a happy birthday or I'll write a really mean review of your encounter. ;)

I'm assuming this applies to future RPG Superstars as well. Can't be too careful.

Clark has a birthday? I had always assumed he just emerged fully-formed from whatever dark corner of the Abyss spawns fiendish judges and game designers who enjoy tormenting player characters.
(Happy birthday, Clark.)
