Maybe just make it so that each "rank increase" is worth 10 points - most are anyway and it keeps the maths simple.

@ Demonic Heart: I am confused on your body alteration powers? I don't see a power entitled as such lol. However there is a power called Abnormal Physiology, that does the same thing your asking. SO a power does exist like that, i think you may have just mislabeled it and it confused me :P

Well, I was perusing the online list and it pointed me back to the advanced players handbook (page 86). If that's not an option, I'll happily change my choices. Mainly I want her to physically have wings for flight and claws that work with her 'bladed weapons' talent.

@veshly: Yeah some are more powerful, but i was hoping people would make a character more based on interest than power. This point system isn't the best, but i figured people would enjoy it more due to the freedom it gives :P.

@Demoic Heart: Its fine the way you have :)

Whisp makes a good point, for 250 point characters most Abilites and Stats of import, should be in the Good(10) to Amazing(50) range and it does make things easy to use that. A those Ranks standard numbers change by 10 at each rank. Should make it easy then.

Swifty-

Some names for a durable brawler type: Roughneck, Tough Guy, Hardy, Stalwart, Pugilist

IF you decided to pick another power that complimented or altered Regeneration, or picked some kind of costume or behavioral theme that might open up some other name options.

Some Ideas:

Take a very low rank super speed (able to be increased later), or just describe your already above-human fighting ability as "super fast punches and kicks" (to pave the way for an actual speed power later). Name: Breakneck. (the idea of a super-speed grapple artist is pretty awesome to me)

Take the Nemesis power. Add a Limitation that it only works after you've been attacked by someone. As you regenerate you become something that can beat them. Names: Counter Striker, Reversal, Riposte

Take the Lizard-man body (no point cost). Now your regeneration is in keeping with a theme. Names: Reptile, Striking Serpent, Regene-gator (heh)

Take a low-rank Healing power (because every group needs a medic). Tie it to your regeneration so you can slowly take on the damage someone else has taken. Names: Remedy, Painless, Painkiller

Hope something in there gives you an idea you like.

You don't actually need to have the Demon body type to do that.

Take the Claws and Flight powers, with any origin you want, and you have yourself a demon type character. Demons have powerful starting attributes (so I can see the draw), but they also come with a hefty Popularity penalty. (There's a good chance it will start in the negatives, which is villain/Punisher territory)

Even if you wanted to actually be an earthbound demon (like Etrigan or Ghost Rider), you don't need the Demon body type. You just pick any body type you want and put the demon stuff in your Origin.

I'm also not sure the Bladed Weapons talent works with natural claws. Usually that's for swords and knives and stuff. That's a 10 point talent. Honestly, you'd be better off just putting htose ten points into your Fighting attribute. Then you'd be better at everything about fighting, not just in your claws.

@The Standard- Thanks for the suggestion, after thinking about it I saw a couple of mods I could do and make it work. Changed to MA-B and dropped Acrobatics for Wrestling. A bit less defense but more offense. Background slightly changed, if we go for combined background, I'll make more changes.

Still to make background changes depending on what we decide to do.

Looks good.

What is the scale? I know this system is a little loose with distances, but it would still be good to know about how far an Area is on the map.

@Whisp & Breakneck- Im good with the combining stories and my characters still a 20 year old student.

@GM Darvis- are u sure my totals are off i changed it to show where i spent what.

@the standard: I plan on over laying a grid :P

@conduit: i will recalculate :)

@conduit: the amounts beside it helped, but i calculated 255, everything is right, but you have two talents and one contact which equal 15. Everything else is 240 :P. SO nothing major, just take of a talent or something in that area :)

Popularity: 1d100 ⇒ 7 Not sure what this gives me. Not much I bet. How are you dividing it up between the Hero and the Secret I.D?

Combined background Suggestion: With the discovery of mutants of all types and the rising number of Super-Powered-Beings (SPB) the government launched Project Insight, a mulit-disciplinary super project, to investegate super abilities, bearers of them, and co-ordinate other related projects such as Rebirth II - Super-Soldier, which includes Project Six, that produced The Standard and maybe other mechanically enhanced humans. Prof. Martin Van Buren, world-renown genetics researcher, heads the genetic research arm and along with brillant scientist from all fields, does basic research into what is happening and helps as needed on other projects, with advice at least. He is aided by many including his star grad student Tyler Terry "Tee" Thompson, who is working toward a PH.D in genetics. Many other researchers use their students for various purposes, most not knowing the full extent of the project. Tee is a normal, but very competent human until one fateful night ... each fills in with their story.

How's that for a baseline origin story?

We get the others in with a group being formed, at the overnment request, by U.S. Marshall Stanley Service, A.K.A. The Standard, who bring in or recruit good available candidates.
Does that work for the DM and everybody else?

Edit: I can't see the map, getting a google error message.

I would say for the more "normal" part of you, its all according to who you are when your not being a super hero. I would suggest a low popularity (to keep from suspicion), but i am willing to work with you guys on that part, if you want separate popularity :P

Edit: idk why you cant see it? :c it seems to be working fine. I was just showing my progress, its not necassary to see it at the moment, so if it is still not working later i will figure it out :P

Yeah, you are right that I was thinking earthbound demons. I know I don't have to actually be a demon body type to get claws or wings but I like the thematic feel of it. I also have no problems taking that hit to popularity. If she really needs popularity to work for her, that's what the secret ID is for. Besides, I read that negative popularity can be useful too. I can scare folks away so they don't get themselves killed in hero vs villain tussles.

Edit: Okay I looked at that little note that negative pop takes away from karma so I guess I shouldn't let it completely nosedive. Hopefully this pad will last.

Oh, and speaking of popularity, since we are rolling: 1d100 - 5 ⇒ (69) - 5 = 64 64

I think I might change that talent though.

@Demonicheart: your popularity is good (8), if you didn't already know that, that is :)

Yep, CS was short for Column shifts. It also plays heavily into the 'grid' that all rolls are made against. It's all multiplication table style... so you roll your die and if you are 'dodging' with IN agility... and roll a 31-65, that puts you in green. Check the 'dodge' catagory at top, and it says -2 CS.

What this means is that the attacker gets a -2CS to his attack. If that moves him from green to white... then he now misses. If it moves him from yellow to Green... it's still a hit.

If you roll a HIGH dodge... you can get a -6CS... Meaning that his IN attack... is now using the FB chart and the chances of a 'kill' or Bullseye is MUCH lower... Different colors mean different things.

But yeah, the thing to remember about the advanced set... is it does VERY little with 'rank numbers'. Leveling up in this system is nigh-impossible. It requires BUTTLOADS of karma that is hard to come by... and since you can spend Karma on making your rolls better... is TOUGH to save.

I played a couple characters for a couple years and I think I only 'raised' one power... on rank...

The Point buy system is a major afterthought. It was a polyhedron article. It was never even released in a 'real' suplement. It's the equivelant of something printed in a Dragon Magazine and never put in an actual Game book. It has some fun ideas, but the system is really not originally designed for it and things don't REALLY mesh to well on some levels.

I'm still trying to work out my character right now. The one I'm leaning towards right now is

"Blue Star"
Flight, Energy Blasts, Forcefield...

He was an old favorite years ago, but I'm trying to rework him with the new rules. If I'm going to see this system raised from the dead.... it might be fun to see my old favorite get a life again! Probably his last chance to ever see a game again! ^_^

Still trying to work out the new rules for him... (he was made pre- ultimate powers) and I'm re writing his origin a bit.

I think his current one will be mutant. Trained by prof.X at the school... but shunned his idea of 'X-men'. Considers him a well meaning but crazy cult leader.

He beleives if you want humans and mutants to live together in harmony... an isolationist mansion is NOT the way to do it. So that's what he did... learned to control his powers (like the brochure said...) and then left to join the REAL world...

He had no intention of ever even USING his powers... but ended up helping someone who was being mugged and then decided to keep helping people when he can.

I'll happily take good. I guess folks like to see scantily clad women regardless of their origins.

Manged to download the map, So we have a college and not a University, could work though top research goes to big name places, Maybe it's for security reasons. I see the sports complex for the K-12 schools, is there similar facilies behind the college for it? May or may not have a bearing. Lots of factories nearby, that's interesting.

@Demonheart Is that your Pop before or after taking the hit for your body type?

Hi, Blue Star, a classic blaster concept, sounds good. Being familiar with the rules is good, I'm still not to sure how the FEATs, actions, and passive vs. active powers work in this system.

@phantom: thank you, i have been further reading into feats and how they work better. And at first look this system was neat, and seemed appealing, i now know its a freaking mess and will not use it again, but for now i will :P.

@veshly: it still has a lot more to go, so i honestly don't know what else i will put in :P. There is an area off to the right (big circle) and i thought about putting a university or maybe the professor x's institute, idk yet :)

Health 70/120, Karma 70 Chart

DemonHeart- You may consider the actual Secret Identity power, or some sort of disguise/shapeshifting power, so you can sort of Shazaam yourself between demon and human. Most non-human body types have difficulty maintaining a secret identity because even when they aren't wearing the costume, they still look like freaks.

Also, Shapeshifting/Possession is very demon-y.

AKA. Isabelle "Iz" White; 15YO;

Changed background.. see below.

Background:

Sarah grew up in a middle-class family to two experimental physicists who worked for the top-secret Project: Rebirth. When she was pregnant, Sarah's mother, Kate, was exposed to the formula.

From an early age Sarah was precocious and showed scientific talent, but also enjoyed competing in acrobatics. At puberty, Sarah began to show signs of mutation - almost certainly the result of her mother's exposure. Her abilities slowly developed until she was able to shrink herself down to only 6" tall. Although they tried to deny and hide Sarah's abilities at first, it was not long before her parents first accepted her powers, and then become interested in how they might have been caused. Eventually they convinced her to undergo testing at the research center...

It was during her first test session that the break-in happened, costumed thugs invaded the center. Sarah, hidden and trapped inside the test room, watched as her parents were killed. Sarah managed to escape and get to one an experimental teleporter pads, seeing it as the only way to escape the thieves. She managed to activate it just as one of them saw and shot at her. Damaged by the shot, something went wrong with the machine starting a fire which not only destroyed the lab, but also casued a malfunction.
Sarah woke up on the teleporter pad in the next building, over the next few days she began to notice changes, as the teleport accident triggered further latent mutations - one that changed her appearance and provided her with amazing new powers....

Updated background/origin stories.

Background:
Tyler Terry "Tee" Thompson was born, in Rayborn City, to an ordinary middle-class family, living with his parents Thomas Thompson and Theresa Thompson (nee Tyler). Tyler is a good student and athlete, A "Buffy" fan this sparked interest in wrestling and the martial arts, with him taking a Jiu-Jitsu black belt in high school and winning an undergraduate martial arts scholarship. He entered graduate school on an academic scholarship in the field of genetics, working as research and teaching assistant under Professor Martin Van Buren, who has heard every joke already. His five-years older sister is completing her residency at the teaching hospital. His life became marred by tragedy when a drunk driver and his parents crossed paths. After the funeral, the insurance paid off the modest home which he shares with his hyper-busy sister. He works irregularly at sport studios (wrestling and martial arts) and the occasional bit part in action shows/movies, normally credited as "Thug #3" or such like. With low expenses, he's reasonably well-off. His life went on until one fateful night ...

Origin:

Tyler finds out that Prof. Van Buren lead the genetic research for the never quite shut down Project Rebirth, now expanded in response to rising incidents with Super-Powered-Beings. The labs are working on subjects and samples of "mutants" and various other projects, trying to figure out what causes these "Superpowers" and how to use them. Tyler is on a break when costumed bad guys attack the labs. Tyler hears the shots fired, runs into the labs, and sees costumed thugs murder Sarah's parents while their daughter flees through another experment and tries to fight off the thieves and murderers but is knocked into the equipment, sprayed with chemicals and odd genetic materials, surronded by exploding equipment. As the thieves flee, he wakes and rescues the Prof from the now burning lab. The Professor notices, before Tee does, that being carried away by someone at car speeds is a bit freaky. Now Tee faces a strange new future ...

It'a a very simplistic system. The boxed set only came with the Judges, Players and a map. Sooooo that's essentially 120 pages of 'rules'. Compared to what we're used to with Pathfinder and such... theres' not much to it.

However... for an online game, that actually has a lot of appeal to me. No battle maps, no 'area effect' diagrams... no AoO's and flanking rules...

it's very fast and loose with a heavier focus on 'characters' then on 'logistics'.

I'm more comfortable with a system like this then trying to play Pathfinder with 15 players... That just sounds scary ;)

@phantom1592 I must disagree, I find MSH to be rules-light but that isn't the same as simplistic, I think it's rather complicated and vague. It doesn't take many pages to get complicated in. Just looking at that FEAT chart is not trivial, look at all the info packed on it. How to use it, what applies and how, doesn't look easy to me. Maybe it'll be better in play. Also if the spotlight is to be on the characters and their relationships why not use Smallville Roleplaying Game? That game uses the Cortex Plus system with extensive modification. It's all about relationships and superpowers are no more important than any other trait of a character. A very simple example: With Super-Speed one can join an ongoing scene by spending a plot point, or a person with a smartphone can join a scene by spending a plot point. A cellphone is the same as super-speed for the purpose of how a relationship is influenced. So it all depends on how you want to play the game but I think MSH failed to achieve the design goals, noble as the goals were. On the other hand I think more depends on the GM and the players then on any games' systems. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Male

Changed my story ill post it here.

Story::
Jack was a typical 20 year old college student studying to become a medical researcher to help develop medicines that would benefit mankind. He was a star athlete and did realy well academically which awarded him the scholarships. Due to his interest in research and intelligence showed in class, he was asked by his professor to help her out with a project she was working on. most of it was analyzing samples and organizing data.

Origin::
One day he and his professor were testing strange compounds on some samples when the professor had to leave to check on some other test. While she was gone he continued testing the samples when two costumed men barged in holding guns. The men seeing him took aim but before they could fire he flipped over the table knocking some things with him. He began making his way up when he cut himself on some glass that was covered in the stuff he knocked down. Ignoring the pain he bolted out the dodging gun fire. As he ran he started to feel dizzy and decided to hind in a room. as he closed the door behind him he looked around the room and saw a machine with some kind of pad in it. unable to think straight he stumbled to it and laid his hand on it. as soon as he did a blast of energy shot out and hit him. As he felt the energy flow into him he didn’t feel any burning as he thought he would instead he felt better. When the blast stopped he noticed three things. One the cut on his hand had healed and he felt good, Two a girl looking to be around his age laid unconscious on the pad, and lastly the men that were chasing him noticed the flash and were outside the door. He quickly ran to the door hoping to run past them and draw their attention away from the room and the unconscious girl but he had no such luck. The door swung open and a man immediately aimed and shot at him. Jack put his arms out waiting for the pain of the bullet but felt none. He looked up and saw a barrier of electricity in front of him. It took him a second to realize he made the barrier. Both men began shooting but the barrier stopped the shots. As they stopped to reload jack took the opportunity the sent a bolt at each of them. He waited for the girl to regain consciousness afraid he might shock her if he tried to move her and then made his way home.

Thought of that too. I know most common folks are morons in comic books but I wasn't about to fly in the face of common sense. When I made my character, I gave her Imitation - Human Changeling. She can morph into any humanoid creature. At Good rank its not fool-proof but she can look like anyone or come up with an original look.

We have some cool original characters so far, despite the three captain america wannabe's ;P

I wish some of the others would hurry up on there characters, i can't wait :P

Sorry guys,... Going to have to bow out because.... (drum roll) I made the top 32 for RPG Superstar! and will be spending ALL my time on that for a few days!

@whisp: no idea what that is, but it sounds cool :P. And its np, thats why i accepted so many people, in the end we will probably have like a group of 3 :P.

@Whisp Sorry to see you go, seems like a great character and time but congradulations on that big, big, win, looking forward to the next rounds. Good Luck.

As to what RPG Superstar is, look on this very page at the upper left and you will see a link to RPG Superstar 2013. For the past several years Paizo has run a contest in which the top winner gets to write a full adventure for Pathfinder and have it published. It has started a couple of people in new careers of their dreams. Out of thousands of submissions Electric Monk, A.K.A. Whisp made the top 32, that's a very big deal! Now it's on to top 16, 8, 4, winner!

Go all the way, George! Woot! Woot!

Nice :P

Health 70/120, Karma 70 Chart

GM, maybe you could start Gameplay with short introductory scenes for the characters that are finished, switching scenes to focus on each new character as they are finished, and then bring everyone together for the first "group meeting" when everyone is ready to go?

@Standard: i actually had that exact thought, however no one has completely settled as it seems most are still changing their backstorys/origins if not their actual powers and abilities :P

I've adjusted my background to match Whisp's and the Conduit. It could mutate more if needed or I'm good to go, if you approve.

I'n not sure but has everyone paid two points for every point of Resource? I.E. minimum of 10 points for a Typical(5) that is required?
It's hard to tell but I can't balance the points on some of the builds here.

@veshly: sorry that this system is hard to work with, but in the end i still like it. For you have the availability of creating your own original character without randomness

Health 70/120, Karma 70 Chart

I'm pretty sure I'm ready to go. I think Anthem is too.

I think it's pretty neat that Breakneck, Whisp and Conduit all have vaguely thematic powers (electricity/superspeed).

Oh, I'm begining to get use to it, I just think there are better systems out there, but I'm good with what you want. Just trying to see if everyone is using the same rules I am. :P

@the standard: If i have a few thats ready i will start up a campaign. Either just your everyday experiences and you watching the media and how how crime rates are up which will turn to your eventual crime fighting, or i will start the actual campaign and brings your guys together to so you can all talk.

Which would everyone prefer? For whoever is ready to chat back and forth or your own everyday experiences that build up to your crime fighting?

@veshly: i have so many character idea running through my head that i would make if i was playing. I'm probably going to make them and have them as villains for you guys to fight :P. Although i can see the benefits of using already existing people which i will try to use and resist the temptation of my own characters lol

Health 70/120, Karma 70 Chart

Maybe a good place to start would be for Anthem and I to show up at the hospital that Conduit and Breakneck are at after the lab accident. (Whisp might be there too but might be unconscious still)

I could have been sworn in as a Marshal about 6 months ago, long enough to know the job but still be new. This could be the first actual Super-crime I'm working on. Anthem and I could be investigating the group that attacked the lab, trying to get information out of the victims.

Then maybe something could happen at the hospital. The bad guys are obviously interested in the stuff that changed them. Maybe they're trying to kidnap them or get samples of their blood or something?

Based on our backgrounds, the intro story practically writes itself. :)

I like it :). But i have to think about the other players as well :P. Maybe just bring them in when they get their characters made? Say you guys recruit them?

Here is something i just thought about in this situation running through my mind:

How does your super hero "suit up"?

Superman and spiderman wear their suits under their clothing, what about you guys?
